Behringer Pro-1, MS-101 and Crave in triple synth action  

I wonder what other people's take on #TSR19 is? Imho I've found throwing together the different youtubers with access to gazillions (or should that be Gaz Williams?) of synth gear far more exciting than watching the usual NAMM videos. Seeing all the guys and gals that I sub to in the same place has been v. exciting, kindalike a youtube Live Aid. "Synth the world let them know it's synths that shine...not guitars". Gamechanger!

Interesting. Does it have the exact same patch possibilities? Now I'm really hoping Behringer makes a DFAM as well. Would be a rad addition to the Crave or Neutron.

It sounds just as good in its own right as the others do. Size is no issue. It's probably going to be the most popular of the three as well.

Knock-off, replica, clone. Every word has a different aftertaste, just depends how you look at it. I've always wanted a 101 but don't have money for the real roland thing, so I'm glad behringer is coming up with these kinds of great clones. Clones that actually sound and most of all clones that come for a reasonable price.

You will not regret it,it is the most sold synth according to Thomann..The only downside is it goes very easily out of tune and it is a pain to fix it.

@@MoltenMusicTech Difficult to say, probably it depends by song and genre, but I'm looking for a deep round quite classic and versatile bass sound, not too "techno or acid". Consider that I own also a Moog Minitaur, my first think was to go with the MS 101. I love also the design and the fact that is a keyboard.

OttoNL How do you like neutron?

@@LukezyM It's awesome. Bang for the buck wise it can't be beat. It sounds mássive and if you add some drive it sounds so warm and rich it's amazing. And with the patch bay there are hundreds of interesting options to explore sound. The Delay is slightly dirty, but not too much. It makes it sound a little old school, but not too bad. It does add Noise when you turn up the Mix knob. I think it will be hard to fit it in to a mix as it sounds so huge, but some EQ should do. The Tone knob in the Drive section should also help. Some things to note though, the Sync is not Hard Sync but Soft Sync. Hard to explain the difference, I rarely see Soft Sync on synths and is quite interesting, but makes less extreme sounds then hard Sync. I would have prefered hard Sync maybe. Luckily my other synth does that. It also doesn't do Ring Mod like some other affordable synths. The Filter is amazing, with some Resonance you can create some beautiful harmonics. The Waveshape knob that goes smoothly from 1 shape to another is awesome and it's always interesting to send the Sample and Hold to the wave shape and have it change the sound quite a bit. Some wave shapes sound noticably softer then others, but I think that's normal in an analog synth. When you remove some harmonics you get a bit of a dip in (percieved) volume. Haven't had the chance to play with it more then 6 hours so far, but these were my initial thoughts. I am still in the honey moon phase, so I might find another downside or two later on, but at this price I really can't complain. Build quality is good, knobs and case do have a few veeeeery small imperfections. Nothing to complain about. Oh yeah, if you don't have a midi keyboard yet I highly recommend a Keystep. Midi is fine, but sending pitch over CV to the filter instead of Oscillator CV is one of the many fun things you can do with a Keystep. And you can send Gate to both Envelope Gate ánd Sample and Hold trigger, making the S&H synchronise with the sequence / with your playing. SQ-1 by Korg is a good option too if you're into sequencing more then playing.

Hopefully with it being priced at $199/€149, the Crave might even be under £150 by the time it gets to the UK!

Or you could sell your original Pro-1 now and use the funds to buy a bunch of the new Behringer synths. Just a thought! But I do think it's cool to have the original.

Phranque Peasant Ju-06 and the Deepmind are quite different babys. I have both and like the Ju-06 better even it‘s a lot simpler

Yes, your thinking is wrong. We asked the exact same question in the video and were able to talk about how different they sound. And then you've got the physicality and the workflow and what inspires you. But there must be a reason why you're looking at synth videos right? If you've decided they are all the same then perhaps it's time for new hobby :)

@@MoltenMusicTech nothing to get offended over. I have several synths already and that's why I said at a certain point they can pretty much do the same things. Achieving it may be different because of the specs, power etc. Obviously they won't all do the same things or sound 100 percent the same. Lots of synths coming out and already out but a lot of RU-vidrs do bleeps and bloops on them therefore making them all sound the same. And NO I'm not saying you do that so don't get offended.

I saw no offence and took no offence, I'm just responding to your question :) and it is a question that we need to keep asking if only to remind ourselves how fruitless that thinking is :D

LOL - the crave is $200 - less than a modular filter.

DivKid has recently uploaded a larger sound demo on his website - maybe that'll let you hear it a bit better. Thanks for the comparison though.

look at the moog clone roland do its by analog solutions...but sold by roland and moog havent sued them either

I see no problem with that either. My point is that in terms of building a product I believe Behringer has done a good job and so shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand as somehow crap - whereas dismissing them for well thought out reasons like you’ve done here is completely valid.
