Thanks for uploading this. The Behringer intro video didn't have very many examples of the sounds. This gives a really good idea of how close the sound is. Awesome!
Yep, the comparison videos out there between Behringer's Model D and a Minimoog sold me on getting a Model D. Virtually no difference in sound. Same with comparisons with the 808 and the RD-8. There's one video with two 808s and a Behringer RD-8 and the RD-8 and one of the 808s sounded much closer together in sound than the second 808. To put a Star Wars spin on Behringer... "They're cloners, damn good ones too."
I just tried something with a couple of musician friends of mine. I just got the Toro. I borrowed a friends Taurus 1 pedals and I also have the Moog Minitaur. I connected the Toro and the Minitaur to their own set of midi pedals (the Roland PK-5A). Had all 3 hooked to the same amp. Not one of these guys could tell the difference between my Behringer Toro, my Minitaur and my friends Taurus I pedals. Not 1 could tell the difference. To me, that says that Behringer hit another line drive right out of the park! When you can't tell the difference between the original, the newer version from the original company and the remake, clone, you know that the company who cloned the original did a great job! So for the price of the Toro and a decent set of used midi controller pedals, you are looking at under 800.00 (about at least a quarter the price of the real set). Now the power comes to the people!
This is the video Behringer should have made from the get-go. I got one from the 1st shipment and I couldn't be happier. I've been using the Minitaur for the past couple of years, which sounded great, but I think Behringer nailed the sound of the T1.
@@alainszyller615 aside form the Toro nailing the sound, I also think it's great if you want to keep the same straightforward interface that you had with the T1 pedals. Of course, if you're after presets and a lot more knob-twiddling, the Minitaur is the one to get.
If this guy said that the 1st sound was the T1, you'd have people saying that the first sound was the best! Whoever you are that says the 2nd sound was the best, you have a screw loose! I've listened to this with headphones. Studio headphones, and you CAN'T tell a difference between the first and second sounds. I should have paid attention to the 3rd also. But for anyone who says there is a difference, the only difference is that the kind gentleman who recorded this told you which one was which. If he wouldn't have said a word, no one could tell a difference! I've got the T1 and the Toro. Not one musician knew which was which, up close and personal! Now I don't have to take my Moog out to get beat up to play shows! Thank God for the Toro! It saves wear and tear! Just like the Poly D! Now I don't take my Minimoog Voyager out for shows. No wear and tear! I can't wait for any Oberheim UB-XA or the UB-8. Then I can retire my Oberheim also!
@Timmy Songs…this is a GREAT demo and comparison, so simple it’s almost sublime. All opinions aside, I’ve been hesitant to purchase any Uli products on the principle that a ‘VST-in-a-box’ copy could not possibly produce the same sonic quality as the originals, but your side by side by side of the Toro, Taurus MK I & III have changed my thinking, and I’m thinking I’m going to take the easy plunge ($$$ wise it’s a no-brainer!) and pick up a Toro!
To me, Taurus 1 & the Toro are really close. A couple sounds slightly off but in a song with other instruments, who can tell. Taurus 3 seems to have an internal chorus or other effect because it comes across a little more aggressive, full and louder. But Behringer was trying to emulate the Taurus 1, not the 3 so I would give Behringer an A on their efforts! Especially for the price!
Given that the authentic Taurus 1-3 are pretty much impossible to find and extremely expensive, I think the Toro is such a steal for anyone looking for a bottle-o-thunder taurus sound.
Very nice, thanks for posting. I've had the original Taurus for almost 20 years and honestly I've gotten a little weary of maintenance issues (especially the pedal contacts getting tarnished/bent up). I ordered one of these over the weekend. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can do a direct comparison myself! I don't suspect I will be disappointed. Judging from this and other clips it really does sound like Behringer nailed the sound. I don't care what name is on the synth, it's the sound I'm after. My original intent that it would be a backup (also wanted to snag one in case Moog's new corporate overlords might turn an evil legal eye towards Behringer, to be honest), but I think it's likely the Toro will be the main (the MIDI and eurorack stuff being some deciding factors). Now to hunt down a MIDI pedal set to use with it...
Okay a little update: got my Toro in today and yup the sound is virtually identical. Damn they did a great job. The only difference I've experienced so far is that the Variable is overall tuned an octave lower in the Toro, ie 'MED' on the Toro is 'LO' on the Taurus (only issue here is perhaps doing an extra tap-dance on MIDI pedals to bump it up an octave to match the Taurus for the same range).
I personally yes, can hear the diff. Taurus is wider, warmer, and fuller. More ‘alive’ in its decay. Perhaps a little tweaking on the Toro and it’s solved. It’s subtle. It’s a cool alternative. I’d buy one.
