Very good video. Drew clearly knows a ton about running a mixing board, and makes it easier to understand for us less experienced folks.

I like the Wing but at my church we were moving from a analog to a digital board. I looked at the Wing and found it to be overwhelming for me and I know a bit about computers and live mixing. Being able to plug the X32 into my analog snake and get going was a big help. I was able to add the stage box later. There are tons of videos on RU-vid on how to use the X32 that I can point my people to for a quick start. I found the Wing at this point to be hard to teach to beginners and the X32 was not as hard. Most people can run a service just using the DCA's. However if I was doing a studio recording session I think the Wing is the way to go, there is just so much built in and it is very flexible. For a new user the Wing is too complex but if you have worked with a digital board before I bet you will have a better time. I do like a touch screen and the X32 is 8+ years old (but still can do the job). Thanks for all your hard work, I learned a lot from you.

I think the lack of people moving to Wing is twofold: Live gigs and worship were destroyed by COVID and mostly, the X32 and it’s peripherals are just ridiculously good for the money. With that said, I just ordered the Wing.

Thanks Drew! I was wondering what the differences were. Great job of explaining and thank you for making the time to make all of these very informative videos. All the best and take care!

8:14 Effects built in into the channels doesn’t add any latency 9:02 If done with an inserted effect, it adds latency I understand the consequences that latency causes in sound but I found this section a bit confusing. Great work though, keep it up!

Drew - Great video. I've come over from the X32 and love this Board and still Learned so many things from this. The only real drawback I see is that the X32 gave you many more options to tap the signal (post, pre etc etc) then the Wig does. User signals accomplish some of this but it does seem to be an odd workaround which hopefully will be addressed in a firmware release. Keep them coming!

This is absolutely grate... Thank you very much Mr Drew.. But I have a question. I am a live mixing engineer from Nigeria. I use the x32. Technically speaking; the x32 board is strong enough to withstand some unpleasant condition in environment. But seeing the this wing (hummm). It looks very fragile to me.. Is it advisable to upgrade or just stick to my x32.

Hey Drew! So the console has 8 XLR ins, and they’re quoted to be Midas Pro pre’s. But are they DL32 Pre’s? Or Midas Blue Box DL251 Pre’s?

the entire fx rack on the X32/M32 can be used as inserts. All you have to do to slots 1-4 is turn off the "Main Stereo" option and set the fx insert point to "Insert". From there it shows up as an insert on the config tab of a channel/buss/matrix. Could you get the spec right it's 2021 and your still getting it wrong. The community has know what the correct spec is for a verry long time. The official recommendation from the manufacturer is shielded cat5e with etherCON where the shield ground is connected to connector to connector + shield connected to the rj45 metal jacket + shield connected to the etherCON shell. There is similar looking non aes50 spec cable used for other applications with either/both: one ended ground lifted or the ground not connected to the etherCON/rj45 metal jacket. It super important to use the correct cable to prevent the Aes50 chips on equipment from dying from static discharge. You can't keep spreading the wrong spec or making sound like it can be overlooked.

Good morning Drew, I’ve been watching all of your videos discussing the WING. Thank you for all of your research & tips. That being said, our church purchased the WING and also the Midas DL153 stage boxes, we’re having difficulty getting the stage boxes updated, I was told they needed to be updated through the WINGs USB, would you happen to know if that’s true or even possible?

Seems like the Wing is the biggest upgrade compared to X32. Would be nice to have a rack version of the Wing, similar to X32 Rack. :)

Could you expand on what you were saying about the direct inputs to the matrix? Didn't fully understand where you were going with that
@stephenevans2518
@stephenevans2518 3 года назад
Basically you can mix any two channels into a matrix, as well as any of the busses, while on a X32 you can only add busses to a matrix. So if you wanted say the FOH mix plus a crowd mic then you can use a matrix for that, whereas in the X32 that would have to be a pair of busses with all other channels post fader so they mirror FOH.
@kasonkedersha579
@kasonkedersha579 3 года назад
@@stephenevans2518 just to make sure I understand. In your example, the purpose would be to have your FOH mix and a crowd mic so that you can then route your matrix to the broadcast? And this is helpful so that you don't tie up an extra bus for the crowd mic?
@stephenevans2518
@stephenevans2518 3 года назад
@@kasonkedersha579 Yeah exactly that. I can't think of any reason I'd use this feature personally, but that's basically what the feature lets you do - add any channel to a matrix without it having to go through a bus

I've been weighing up on whether to buy a WING but its been nearly 2 years since launch and it still looks like an unfinished concept (not the mention the lack of add-on cards like MADI or ADAT).

I think the inputs and outputs are a big disadvantage. You are obligated to invest on aes 50 snakes or lose channels. Most churches, specially in latin America just can't afford it. Thank you for videos, very useful as always.
@stephenevans2518
@stephenevans2518 3 года назад
I am in two minds about this - if they'd put loads of inputs on the back it may have cost almost as much as you pay once you throw in the digital stageboxes. It's also hard to decide whether they'd put Behringer or Midas mic pres in it, as Midas ones might push the cost up more, but put Behringer pres on it and you'd have more people get the stageboxes instead. For anyone who already has or would want to use digital snake anyway, this makes it a good bit cheaper than if it came with loads of preamps they wouldn't use. Also lets you choose whether you want the Behringer or the Midas mic pres. A SD16 is not super expensive, you can stick it next to the WIng and plug your analog multi into it if you want, which then gives you 24 mic preamps.
@Robinlarsson83
@Robinlarsson83 2 года назад
No, if anything it's just an advantage that the Wings had so few local inputs/outputs. The console would cost more if it had more, and as Steven says, it would end up more expensive for most users. Who runs an analog snake these days? Surfaces with only a few local I/O is the way to go and basically all real pro consoles have been that way for years. Why pay for local I/O that will almost never be used and just makes the console larger and heavier? The stageboxes are not expensive from Behringer. If anything, the Wing has to much local I/O.

Enough of the sales pitch, The Behringer Wing costs about the same as the Midas M32 (not the M32R which is a LOT CHEAPER) without all the inputs and Behringer do not offer a 10 year warranty Midas do and the Midas 32 has their superb Pro 1 preamps so its way way better value for your money. The Wing is OVER PRICED for what you get out of the box and add in the snake and before you know it you will realise you made made a BIG MISTAKE. Stick with the X32 or if you have/want to upgrade get the Midas M32 - forget the Wing, yes it looks lovely but its far to expensive for what you get and SERIOUSLY lacks warranty considering its software is still under development. Midas M32 uses the same software as the X32 we all know how good THAT IS
