Anything in Behringer's V-amp series is tricky to use. They have succeeded in being ruthlessly efficient with the small number of operators used to control a wide range of parameters, and you need to know the shortcuts.
I got one of these probably 15 years ago, and I never really had a good sense of how to use it. It was more of a curious toy for a while, but I think the idea behind it was to create something similar to the big, expensive Digitech and Boss floor unit multi-FX processors. Even those were a bit clunky back then, and they didn't have the amp models along with them either. I kept this one though, just as something to puddle around with, but now that I'm back into pedals and home studio recording I've found it has a lot of surprises I wasn't quite prepared for. This may all end up in a video shortly, but... Once you figure out how to do the programming, it's easy to set up and get a good sound. However, it's not a great live kicker, because there is some latency in switching presets. That, I think, has to do with the processing time when switching amp models. If you use it only as FX and forget the modelling, it moves much faster. I do think there are better options for stage though. Because it does have amp modelling built in, it actually makes a great direct line into your DAW. I've done a number of pretty funky solo tracks using this into my Scarlett and straight into Audition. Put a wah in front of it and you get all the functionality you really need. A good cab IR plugin rounds it out, but even just the noise gate and compression on this little guy make it worth the low price point. I'm glad you mentioned the presence control. The one thing that always killed this for me in live stage use was how trebly and bright it is. I had to put an EQ after it the few times I've used it, and that always sort of mushed down the mids as well, so this bit of info is terrific. They don't make them anymore, from what I've seen, but you can get them used all over the place. They're really surprising tools for practice (honestly, I headphone this thing all the time when the kids are in bed!!), and they're great for testing out sounds and combos without having to rack up a bunch of cabs and heads. I have an older Ibanez WH-10 wah and a Bad Horsie 2 in my chain, but I'll definitely be poking through the manual again to see if I can get the onboard wah to do its thing too. Excellent comment! I use it direct to DAW as well but have a tube amp that I use a speaker soaker on so I can drive the amp but not alienate the neighbors, and use an SM57 on it, but I like the stereo effects and reverb going direct into the Scarlett (finally bought one of those too instead of messing with the PC's sound card) so going direct with the amp sims is a nice way to record.
@@gearfacts Yes it was. I keep coming back to this. Most pedal manuals expect you to know all the terminology. I am moving from acoustic to electric and it is very hard to figure out or use these sounds effects. It distracts a lot from actually playing.

Yes it's such a shame they designed it as they did. I'm not against tricky operating systems really, it's more the appearance and apparent build quality that bothers me, because as you say it sounds great when you get the formula right. Confusing manual too!
Ah, yes, the build quality is awful! The two selection pedals are so fragile that at first I thought they were damaged by the previous owner - now I see that that's just the way they were constructed. As for the operations, it may have benefitted from at least one extra button for one of the edit parameters, as holding both tap and (effect) buttons to reach a third parameter is sort of awkward (not to mention easy to miss, as at least the tap button has an indication that it serves as well for calling up a second function, but there's nothing hinting at a third parameter on the panel)! Nevertheless, it's still one of those equipments that surprises you a bit. I have a Strymon Mobius too, which is supposed to be one of those "be-all end-all super quality" pedals in its area and - this may sound absurd to some - I think the chorus in this unit actually has more character, for example. The Strymon is way too clean.
@@pieceworkstudios The only real problems with it is it's plastic, but for in home use it is fine & the label colors are almost unreadable, which is why I made a new form fitting black letter version of the label I printed on sticky paper.... I eventually traded the pedal & some others for a Behringer head. Man, I love the chorus!

I know this is an older video but if you still check comments, thanks a million for this. I have one and really like recording with it but wanted to have the 1st 5-10 slots set up the way I want and could not get the store to work. Silly that I never tried long pressing it when I did long press for the other effects and modules. Oh well, Big help though, rock on 👍
Great tutorial. Also, there's another important function on this peddle it's called "Factory Reset" .. How? Easy! 1. Turn off the unit, 2. Using your first and pinky fingers hold down the TAP and STORE Buttons. 3. While holding these buttons, turn on your unit. 4. Keep holding down for 5 seconds. 5. You're done and all effects now are factory settings.
Hi, after factory reset is all good but when I disconnect power supply and turn It on again there is no patches and I must do factory reset to bring patches again. Battery is fresh btw. Any suggestions? Thx.
I have one of these since 2006 and I've always thought that my wah pedal wasn't working. Recently, doing a maintenance work on it I found that the problem was a little screw located under the expression pedal that was screwed too much and didn't make contact with the wah switch under it on the PCB... unscrewed it a little, and surprise! the wah and pedal assign functions worked! try if that's the problem with your unit. I use it for night practicing with earphones and configuring your own patches from zero, you can get good tones for this purpose.
Gday GF mine burnt out. What multi pedal would you suggest for 120 bucks? I was thinking nux mg 100 or zoom g1 or mooer ge 100. As a blind man i find your tutorials very well done. Thanks mate.
Personally I'd choose the Nux MG100 out of that selection because of its luscious, live-sounding vintage tone. Incidentally, all the Nux MFX units sound exactly the same to me, I think it's just the external design that differs :) #gearfacts
Bro nice video.. I have a question about my X-Vamp guitar processor.. The expression pedal strip is broken and lost, and I'm not able to control the effects intensity through the pedal.. Can you tell me what I can alternately do to fix it? Thank you!
@@atiq-ur-rehman5626 Difficult. I'd try contacting behringer, or asking an electronics shop if they have a suitable part. Sometimes it's cheaper and easier just to buy a new one, or another broken one that has the part you need.
i bought a used one that wont work. it turns on and you can go through all the functions but it acts as if theres no signal going into the input. it just has a loud hum on the amp. any suggestions???

Piece of junk Wha pedal stopped working, and no sound out of unit unless I unplug and replug several times,and then it stopped working all together. I've never have taken it out of the house plastic is still on the display I've just used it to practice through. They have probably stopped making this unit all together.
