Great review, thanks. I have a XR18 Air mixer and this device is also made to work with this line of products. Touching one button toggles between the mixer and the DAW. So cool!

I've even created my own shortcut strips which I tape across the Functions and lower button banks. Thanks SOOO much for this video series...Behringer to SSL. Much love for the knowledge and sharing.

Thanx Dave! Excellent video series. Enjoyed them very much. I will probably add a 3rd Extender to my setup. It has become 2nd nature to my workflow. Logic is seamless and works the best. Reaper works well and Harrison is decent as well.

I bought the Audient iD44 MKII, for the ability to have 4 mic pres and expand via optical. However, one feature I wasn’t sure I was going to use much is having the scroll wheel be the encoder. As you mention, most things you use in a DAW is adjusting plugins, so I found it really quick for me to adapt, where I set the volume then set the wheel to encoder mode, and I have one hand on the encoder, one hand on the mouse. I move my mouse to what I want to adjust, end move the encoder. No need to map anything, just hover on top of the control on the screen and adjust with the encoder wheel. It was a nice addition I thought I was not going to use much, but I’ve found it very useful.

Thank you for this review series, it's much appreciated. I do have to say that even though I'm a Presonus Sphere user I do think that the Faderport looks more like a toy compared to the XTouch, having used professional desks for many years the XTouch just looks more like a serious piece of kit plus it has all the extra function buttons. An interesting choice may have to be made. 🤔

Love your control surface reviews! Just got a look at the new ICon V1-M. I'm sure you could buy a car with how much it cost but it looks great! Also the P1-M addresses some readability issues as well.

You might want to review the Nektar Panorama P1 Control Surface. It's smaller and not motorized, but from what i can see, it does have tighter integration with most daws and might be worth reviewing just for that. Their keyboard controllers are the same. I have a P1 on the way and i think it's going to be perfect for my needs and desk.

I think that the manufacturer deliberately did not backlight the functional buttons so that there would be no glare on the screen. Since they are located directly below it. This is just my guess, but I see the point in it. Another thing is that they could have been located in another place. But it's okay. I haven't bought this thing yet, but I want to do it very soon Thanks for such a detailed review 👍

You need to checkout the rocksolid audio plugin controllers as they do exactly what you ask for at the end of this video. they have an ssl style controller as well as a more generic channel strip controller. either one can be assigned to work on any plugin, can follow the selected tracks (in daws that support it), overall really high quality stuff. oh yeah, each encoder knob is a button as well which can be assigned to do a whole lot. the only thing i havent seen them do is assign new plugins to a channel. they are a small up and coming company that will dominate the market if they can continue doing what they are doing

I understand ur opinion on avid....but I use there avid dock & s1 on cubase & nuendo and it's amazing for plugin control & opening and closing plugins but it's only for daws with eucon compatible

Just wanted to chime in regarding the extenders, Purchased 2 of them new. They both had 6 out of 8 defective faders ,if you use mouse to move them on your DAW ,they responded smoothly. However,moving them from the hardware device they don't respond properly,tried two different DAW's same result. My main x touch has been flawless , not really sure what I'm going to do moving forward

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy 1 was from Sweetwater, they were no problem, the other was ebay,I still have it,took it apart,resoldered all fader contacts didn't remedy the problem, every other function works fine,but 6 of the faders fight movement when daw is loaded with a project I noticed icon just released a new controller V1-m maybe I'll check one out

I'm a newbie so take this with a grain of salt, I just purchased this unit and was surprised at a couple of things. 1. no master mute. I use the XR-18 for both live sound and as my interface for recording. I have it preset to turn on with the master fader muted. So i have to use X-Air to unmute. There's no way that I can tell to toggle the master mute. 2. speaking of X-Air, I would assume the x-touch would have integrated a little better. I was shocked that the X-Air interface does not automatically adjust to show what you are adjusting on the X-touch. Example, clicking on a track and then EQ, you would think the EQ window on X-Air would become active, so you could see what you are adjusting. Since both are made by Behringer, I would have thought it be a super tight fit. It feels more like an afterthought. Again, I'm just a hobbyist so maybe not a big deal but I found it disappointing. On the contrary, it works GREAT with logic. The software windows pull up based on the x-touch commands. Unlike what I described above regarding X-Air. I just wish the colors on the scribble script changed. As a super bonus, by using the XCTL/MC mode, I can bounce back and forth from controlling X-Air app and Logic. I love it. Oh, and last thing I don't like... the lack of documentation. I found it ridiculous actually. All of the videos Behringer has on RU-vid are ok for a general sales video, but they offer very little that's really helpful when you buy the thing. IMO

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I thought about returning it but it does work very well with Logic especially for the price which is 90% of what I'd use it for. So we'll see. If the main goal was for live sound with the XR-18, I don't think it would be a good fit. I don't think the cheaper build would hold up. BTW, Thanks for the videos, they are all very helpful and appreciated! I wish RU-vid will focus more on promoting content that's beneficial vs chasing TicToc nonsense. ;-) Keep it up!

I have the X-touch connected to my XR-18 and want to lock the X-Touch console so I can walk away from it and not worry about somebody adjusting my mix. Is there a way to lock the console?

One thing you didn't mention is that the labels on many of the buttons on the right side don't match the functions in Pro-Tools. I think Behringer should have done like they did on the X-touch One and have different overlays depending on the DAW or device you are choosing to control (the mode of the controller).

Also, Cubase has keys remapped so you even need a template for that. Seems there is no consistency in how DAW's implement either Mackie or MCU protocol. So really this is not necessarily a fault of Behringer, however if they would make overlay templates for the X-Touch as they do for the X-Touch One, that would certainly make life easier for it's users. Of course, this also drives up the costs to Behringer. I found some places that make these templates, however the cost is 12-25 USD for each template. I'm sure the production cost is likely only a few dollars.
