@@vonaerysbanarez9737 the earth empire soldiers dont use probending style, they use traditional style like they were taught. Outside of RC you will never see someone use probending style. These guys are just not as powerful
@Zion Lamar Literally everyone stopped fighting the moment Toph enters the battle field. Deny it all you want, won’t change the fact that Toph had absolute authority to the point where Kuvira didn’t even bother trying to restrain them.
Agreed and it’s amazing on what bending becomes as generations go on like how kuvira is obviously a master metalbender and she prefers that over earthbending
@@MangaSlayer102 Yep, metalbending is definitely her signature but I also I think it’s bc Metalbending is harder to counter in combat. Not everyone can metalbend to redirect it and most of the time it’s lighter than tossing boulders

Kuvira's intention was never to hurt or kill them so once she saw they were leaving she didn't bother cause she knew there would be even more fighting.
@@son9626 there is no proof whatsoever to suggest that toph's metalbending is stronger than Kuvira's. you say that cause she developed it but kuvira has way better feats and skill with what he have been shown
I really love that Toph still uses her own style of bending, which is controlling the earth below her not just rocks, a style her daughters & grandchildren use.
@@A_itsar Nope. She literally has built-in seismic sense with her feet so she can see everyone around her. It's even stated in TLOK that through her feet, she can see the whole world from the mangrove forest or smth. She just has her own style of earthbending but she definitely knows where to throw a rock if she wanted to.
@@mindstone6883 well she can throw things with accuracy. She did throw herself, sokka, suki onto the airship in the final episodes of atla. But she loses sense of where it is after it leaves any connection to the earth.
She may have kept her composure but, I know that she was sweating when she saw Toph and when Toph was going away and she was not stopping them her mind was probably like "well, I am not going to f**k with Toph mother f****** beifong
“Opal? No, we have to stop the test!” I mean, that guy can be a douche sometimes, but that was a nice touch. He was actually scared for his sister... me likey!
The comics def redeemed him a bit for me tbh. After he realizes how little Kuvira cares for his safety in comparison to her ambitions, and how easily she's willing to discard his life for her goals, he realizes his mistakes and rejoins his family, and once Kuvira shows up again he doesn't trust her one bit. She does change a bit as well and he recognizes it, but he will never trust her enough to be a couple again so at least there's that. Dude was a love struck fool, but he came around.
In my opinion, at the beginning of the series metalbending was still pretty rudimentary, at least compared to Toph. Kuvira and the earth empire took it to whole new level.
1K Subscribers For No Reason? Why are u taking what toph said as facts? The story contradicts it numerous times Su & lin have seismic sense & can metal bend at the highest lvl & their feats prove that, there’s no reason to believe what toph said was true
CruddSZN maybe because she created metal bending! Toph is still leagues above them even as an old woman. Imagine her in her prime. Who do you think taught the beifong sisters
DaShe Henry she’s not leagues above them tho they all show the same finesse as toph does with metal bending & their earth bending is plenty powerful just not as powerful as tophs But Su & lin are told too💀 their both in their 50’s atleast so they have many many yrs of experience in top of tophs training, the only thing that toph has that’s way beyond them is her seismic sense, just bcuz toph invented metal bending doesn’t mean nobody can come close to her skill lvl That’s not how the avatar universe works o even how real life works alot of the time
R.I.P. Anne Heche, please spread some love and heartfelt condolences to her family. She was peacefully taken off life support after suffering severe injuries in a fiery car crash.
@@AMSantosMusic she had alot of serious issues with substance abuse and mental health throughout her life. Even in her death she nearly killed 3 people and crashed her car into a house, destroying both and killing her
Can i just say how insanely good the choreography is in the avatar. And with metal bending scenes it looks so good. One of the best actions scenes ever in existance imo, its not just kicks and punches. It's a powerful stream of all sorts of acrobatics and damn it is good when Suyin and Kuvira are fighting. It's not just martial arts, acrobatics, control of the element it a beautiful flowing buquet of it.
No wonder the Earth Kingdom was strong enough to withstand the war with the fire nation: they have strong and smart earthbenders that know how to bend earth/rock and defend their country
The earth kingdom didn't withstand the war against the fire nation too. Azula infiltrated and took command of Throne by knocking off the earth kings consultant(who was really in control of Ba Sing Sa), along with the Dai Li agents. The White Lotus had to Liberate the earth kingdom from the fire nation.
@Lady Seashell Bikini I always thought that it was because no one really cared about water tribes lol. I mean, they live on poles, no sweet territory, no future harvests or iron mines. The only reason South was decimated is because they probably waited for next avatar to be born there, since Kuruk was from the North
I'm sorry, but am I the only one who LOVES the sound effects of earthbending? It's one of those sounds that's very soothing to your ears that you can hear all the time and never get tired of.
Kuvira knew she can't take Toph... I mean, Toph created metal bending. As a kid she was one of the best if not the greatest eathbender and defeating many strong ones. Kuvira wouldn't stand a chance. Besides, Toph trained 2 avatar generations. Name a more OP earthbender.
Bumi was 25+ yrs older than tlok toph and he was way more powerful so it’s not she’s still at that lvl in terms of power & Kuvira has shown she doesn’t need power to be a more powerful opponent & she’s physically much fast than toph, has more stamina & isn’t limited to mainly fighting on the ground & Kuvira was outnumbered did u not see the tophs entire family & Bolin, a lava bender shows up, there’s nothing Kuvira could rlly do, i have no doubt she would fight toph if she had to
@@nucleargushtaba8098 actually in the conics toph fought bumi because they both said they were the greatest earth benders... Both matched eachother and had to stop or they would literally destroy the land and they came to the conclusion it was a draw She was 12 and he was way older
At the begining Bataar Jr. wants to stop the test because he saw Opal in the city they wanted to destroy. It really shows how he truly cares for her🥺🥺🥺
Tf you say, Sue came straight from prison and still was a match. If she had the same preparation and armor as Kuvira, she would have whooped her ass hands down, she's just not as blood thirsty bc she raised her and kuvira is a psychopath.
@@allyjay7395 kuvira literally jus beat the shi out her. regardless if she jus came back from prison or not kuvira would still stomp. she’s in her prime rn she would prolly beat toph in a 1v1 fight if they fought right there (not atla toph)
This fight sequence remains the best of both series, in my eyes. Specifically, the bit of Su v. Kuvira. The detail in the fight choreography is fucking insane and top-notch.
Only two episodes don't involve the avatar (not completely anyway because each episode gave both avatars at least a moment of screen time) therefore it's not a big win
I feel Like there are alot of posibilities to do with alot of characters from legend of korra , villans and good guys . Like , not theit own seties , but at least a movie about them. My options are the beifong sisters (and even toph maybe ), the Red lotus , bolin and mako , asami , and tenzin bumi anul kya
@@vetarlittorf1807 Sokka wasn't schooled acrobatic no. He was Jackie Chan naturally acrobatic. You have to have amazing dexterity to control a boomerang. His fight with Piando. Regardless I was making a joke because we know Sokka is the daddy.
After all these years I think I might've finally figured out their fighting style. Toph is probably the hardest to contend with because she is the best earthbender at the time. Her experience and mastery is beyond reach. Her specialty are her power moves and solid defense. She prefers to bend large boulders and barely throws anything smaller than a human torso and her defensive blocks are near impregnable. Lin strive to balance between offense and defense and prefers to outbalance her foes with light to moderate attacks before attempting a power move. Her defense is excellent but can be dealt with speed, manueverability, or her own state of mind. I also see her exhausted earlier than others i mention. Sue is a very conservative fighter. She mostly uses moderate attacks with some light attacks to put her foes preferably where she wants them before she takes them out with a precise lethal blow but not expend too much energy on unnecissarily large moves. She's light on her feet and prefers to dodge or deflect and only blocks as last resort. She also really likes to use her environment like the stairs against Lin and metal cart against Kuvira. Kuvira is a very smart fighter. She's the type of person to go into a room and the first thing she thinks about is how to neutralize everyone in it as a precaution. This means she has a good sense of picking a fight, only fighting Sue when the rest of her family is busy with her soldiers. She seems to prefer fighting tougher opponents one-on-one like she did with Korra, though i doubt she has the guts to take-on Toph. Kuvira focuses on her enemy that it seems to give her tunnel vision which does outbalance her but her reflexes almost always turns that into a counter-attack which what most of attacks are made of. She also prefers light to moderate attacks and has great preference of using her suit as a shield and weapon. Her stamina is highly developed and her body itself is seriously tough still able to fight after attacks that would disable Sue or Lin. Bo Lin I love Bo Lin! Enough said!
Toph is also very precise, she can and does control massive volume of earth like you said but notice how she leaves out a perfect circle where her children and grandchildren are standing when she takes out those robots and soldiers. Toph is basically ... god XD
Kuvira knows fighting Toph is a bad idea, it's not worth sacrificing man power. Her priorities have changed as well. While it'd be nice to have the Beifongs under her control, she has bigger things to attend to (ie taking Republic City). Even if Toph weren't there, I think Kuvira still might let them get away.
Or perhaps killing toph would have create a bigger uproar in revolting against her militia? I mean toph is widely praised and known throughtout the earth kindgom (for obvious reasons). But then again Idk I just like to speculate
@@aliciab5484 Killing Toph would have had all of the nation's on her. Killing one of the hero's of the world would have made her a serious enemy and every nation would have sent someone after her. Especially since Katara is a decendant of the past chief of the water tribe and still alive she would have had them send people after her, Zuko would have lost his mind and sent and army after her and Tenzin would have had his people after her because "you killed my aunt you bitch!" And her family is an army in itself. And by Agi please don't let Katara and Zuko get their hands on her, she will die and we would have seen Old Katara and Old Zuko Kick some serious ass.
That and her reputation would be severely damaged She claimed to be a great uniter for the earth kingdom so killing a earth kingdom icon wouldn't be a good light for her This could've possibly lead to fire lord izumi actually agreeing to lead a attack with the United forces
@@othervids3726 Toph is one of the most talented benders of all time, but is still very old. Even the greatest fighters succumb to age. It would be a close match.
I love that during the time she trains Kora, Toph states that trough her seismic sense she can see what everyone is doing, as far even as Republic City, - even her daughters….meaning she, while grounded, was able to see this battle get messy, and how her descendants fought ❤️
I thought it was the swamp amplifying that. Remember how aang used one of the swamp roots to find appa? I think Toph just taps into that naturally and her seismic sense is amplified to its maximum possible degree, which is the entire planet. I could be wrong though. She was insanely powerful at 12. She could be even more powerful than ATLA king bumi at this point and he was chucking houses off his city like it was nothing.
@@proudamerican183 Exactly. Toph could single handedly take every Earthbender there down at the same time on her own, including her own family. Kuvira knew the fight was over when Toph showed up.
such a great fight to heighten a relationship built up all season. Su trained kuvira so kuvira knows all her tactics and moves. crazy how high su could jump, probably using earth bending. and her acrobatics tie back to that dance we saw her and kuvira do at their introductions
I don't think this was about kuvira knowing sue moves I think it was about kuvira having better amour, those metal sheets and sword really played a huge role in why she won the fight especially her metal cords!
Kuvira might not be may favorite villain, but she consistently has some of the best fight scenes. Watching metal benders throw down is always great just because of how much more physical it is compared to air, water, and fire.
the way the beifong family earth bends is just so much different than other earth benders, it’s like a martial art, they use every part of their terrain
0:45 can we talk about how fluid this is? Im no animator, but I’d imagine it would be at the very least tricky to properly portray someone landing off balance and still continuing an assault. Idc who hates this show you HAVE to acknowledge choreography of these fight scenes
Also can everyone appreciate how sue fought kuvira at her prime whereas Sue was in her 50s let say considering alll her kids were grown up at this point.
Honestly think Suyin would ahve took her out if the fight continued, but Kuvira knew she was a threat and focused on moving her away and into the army.
This is a top ten fight across both series. Lin with her smooth unbreakable stance like momma taught her. Suyin with the prodigy elemental mastery mixed into her literal acrobatic/dance background. The twins combined being Avatar level strong in Earth bending. Damn son. Then Toph proving she became even stronger after the war ended. Suyin runs her pockets five years earlier. Or even if she came with a metal whip. Woman literally used the ground and metal around her to enhance her own body's limits. That spinning kick while Lin holds the giant rock. The super jump from underground to attack Kuvira on the high ground. The big panel she bends to jump over Kuvira completely. I can see why everyone thought she could stabilize the Earth Kingdom. But with zero fighting background she almost cleared the best fighter in the series. Kuvira being Su's prodigee despite not being a prodigy herself is so perfectly shown here. She used every single motion to her advantage cause the only thing she has on Suyin is Agility and even then Su enhances it with her surroundings Kuvira literally does the same. The smaller panel she bends to launch herself too. The actual fighting experience as a guard. The hook around the rail to gain momentum on what would have thrown her off the train immediately jumping on the off balance Su the one opportunity Kuvira had she took to get Suyin off the high ground. Brilliant choreography outstanding animation. What's crazy is if her artist son Huan even had a little fight experience they would have destroyed them cause he can bend metal to a degree none of the other family members can. If Suyin can make armor on the fly dude would be making boomerangs, hammers, swords, shields, machine guns on the fly. I like to think he learned afterwards and asked for a one on one with Bataar Jr and ran his ish after Maybe it wasn't Toph, maybe even Kuvira seeing Huan was like "yeah... no I'm not gonna fight the artist he could actually bend this armor mid fight like I'm some chump." He went with the evacuation cause he could solo the mech tanks that appeared. No but really all the Beifong's make Earth/metal their total b in one way or another. Even Jr. Aka engineer of death.
Earthbending has evolved so much over the past 70 years. their movements seemed like a mixture of Firebending & Airbending as well. Toph must’ve learned quite a bit and passed them on.
Toph can’t see in the air tho so has to stick with the Earthbending wait and listen tactic, so I doubt she’s the one that ever incorporated air & firebending techniques into earthbending. I think Su made the air/earth style
@@Markus2E5I6 She can only actually ‘see’ when things are touching the ground. She’s also able to anticipate most moves her opponent might do beforehand based on what they were doing on the ground previously. She also has enhanced hearing. It doesn’t really serve her any purpose to incorporate air & fire techniques into her bending style if she needs to be touching the ground at all times to attack & defend. Such as if she were to launch a boulder while suspended in the air, she wouldn’t be able to aim well at all or even if the opponent is suspended in the air for long. Two good examples of this are when she fights Aang in the ring, she had a tough time knowing where he was. Also when she’s fighting the bees in the desert. Katara had to help her aim. In the entirety of the series I don’t think she’s ever actually evaded anything mainly counters & defends
Large families with magical powers, pair of twins, a traitorous brother who later comes back, 1 sister amongst many brothers, the one sister is dating one of the main characters.
This scene really illustrates how earthbending, and its relevant subskills, really emphasise the philosophy of "use your surroundings to your advantage" inherent to all martial arts.
Toph is the greatest Earthbender ever shown in the series, she just straight up bodies everyone as an old woman, imagine in her prime as a young adult, scary.
Toph vs Kuvira both in their primes as Earth / metal benders. The choreography alone would be sick. I am enamored with Kuvira and her characterization, but I’d want Toph to win.
People keep saying Kuvira rivals Toph. This is true in matters of skill, but people forget what makes Toph the best is the fact that she can quite literally sense (or see in a way) an enemy’s move before they do it. The only time it didn’t work was against Aang because he could effectively float and that made it harder for Toph to sense where he was. Kuvira on the other hand doesn’t have that ability. She’s badass, don’t get me wrong. But her main advantage is her skill of metal bending in addition to her being an earth bending master. And it’s not like Toph relies on hearing which can be easily manipulated, but rather she uses even the softest vibrations in the ground to see her enemies and anticipate their moves before they can even complete them. Against Toph, Kuvira’s advantages and skills are moot. Toph would obliterate her simply because she has a crazy advantage nobody else does.
Love how the soldiers here actually try to block and evade. That was sorta something a lot of soldiers in AtLA didnt do (e.g. when Katara was attacking the Earth Palace guards and all of them were just standing in place for her to grab).
anyone else notice that Toph's girls have an air or water bending style to their fighting? Like there's obvious earth stuff, but they mix in a lot of movements that immediately strike me as a water or air move. More redirection than blocking. I love the attention put into blending styles in LOK
