When someone defines his personal identity outside the dominant social norms, we are quick to qualify it as unreal (delusional, mad, deliberately provocative etc.). But doesn't being unconventional, require a higher degree of assertiveness, sense of purpose and independence? (the stuff of which real personality is made of) And how real or mad are our conventions; black/white, heterosexual/homosexual, man/woman, rich/poor, intelligent/stupid.... man/donkey
