So apparently, going to the gym makes you a toxic, patriarchal, fatphobic, far-right madman? OR it could mean that you care about your physical and mental wellbeing. So the real question is, do you even lift?

What’s insane is I’ve talked to more guys at the gym about philosophy and have received more valuable feedback from them than anyone I talked to while I was at college.

The brain is nurtured by the body. To have a maximized cognitive output, one must exert maximum effort with their body. Studies have shown that muscle release chemicals signals for the brain, and stimulate it in a positive way. The number 1 way to increase physical and cognitive longevity, and reduce dementia alzheimer's, etc. is to work out

Really? most people who go to gym have/ start to develop low self esteem because when they work out and start to look better, a standard is being set in their mind that they feel like they need to meet or maintain but as working out need dedicating and hard work which is not always an easy case in life when they fail to meet their self established "minimum standard" they become miserable and bitter, also no matter how much you say 'i work out for myself', there is always an element of wanting people's admiration and attention to a degree being one of the key elements in motivating to work out in the first place. What I'm saying is people are superficial and this superficialities can manifest in various ways and lifestyles. And many times superficialities and philosophies often sound similar.

They hate it because they can't have it. If you haven't noticed these peoples primary complaint is that they arent positioned to succeed in this country. They believe that things like the "American Dream" are too fundamentally hard to obtain and they even go as far as saying that its impossible for everybody to succeed. And they are 100% right. That doesnt mean the people who can actually win in society should give it up. Its not our fault that God (or mother nature, whoever you believe the dealer is in this cosmological poker game) dealt them a bad hand. Im just saying I am getting really tired of these people trying to justify the reasons why they need to enslave the rest of us who get up everyday and work hard to get the things we want in this society. They just want everything to be free. Well ill tell you something there is no such thing because somebody had to work to produce the resources they consume like the rest of us. They want us to bake their cake so they can eat it too, and it just doesnt work that way. And no matter how many times they try to argue with us like little children in a candy store. The answer is no. Ill literally eat the candy i bought with my own money right in front of you to show you how little i care if you allow yourself to starve to death... Im just saying they say impossible beauty standards when they literally work hard everyday to make themselves ugly. Im just saying i would rather send food stamps to a really poor country in Africa than to keep paying for LAs unsustainable economy and to have these people riot because the handouts arent enough. When will people understand that welfare is slavery of the contributing class so that democrats can get all the power? This is just the same old con of slavery sold under a different banner. Until people wake up and realize these woke people intend to enslave all of us and our children to their needs, FOREVER... Im just saying Americans are stupid that we keep arguing about an acceptable degree of societal slavery. The founding fathers would be turning in their graves right now realizing we have given up our human rights of autonomy so easily to people who dont see welfare as a form of reparations. They say welfare is christian charity. I say its egyptian slavery all over again...

I relate to your story as well. At first, working out was a way for me to relieve stress induced from school and the general awkwardness of being a rather directionless teenager. It was a much better outlet for me as someone who had just overcome self-harm and was working on getting out of depression. Then, I felt so good after that first gym visit that I decided to keep doing it. I started using either little or no extra weight on the equipment, and then worked my way up as I got used to the equipment and felt the time was right to make my workout a little tougher and longer over the years. COVID hit, and then the option to go to a gym was taken away from me. I had already learned about the importance of fitness and good health considering that my dream job is rather punishing on the body, so I came to a realization. If I wanted to stay fit, I'd have to find a way to do that at home. I bought some dumbbells and a push up bar, and came to use those as often as I used to go to the gym (around 3 times a week) and combined them with "bare-body" exercises like burpees, pull-ups, and sit-ups. Then I learned about just how fit I would have to be not just to do my dream job, but do everything else I wanted to do my life and considerably reduce my chances of developing long-term health problems. By the time I chose to cancel my gym membership since I had been exercising at home for about a year, I had already started working out for at least one hour every day and doing smaller ones in addition to that one if I had been just sitting down for more than 30 minutes. Now, I work out every day for a little over an hour, and I think I do so on average for about 2 hours everyday when these little workouts are combined with my big hour-long one. Perhaps coincidentally, my political views became more pro-freedom and populism; similar to yours, and I no longer consider myself depressed. In a way, the lockdowns unlocked some new potential in me. Now, fitness is one of the best parts of my life because I feel the rewards for doing it even when I have doubts are so massive. For anyone who's nervous or intimidated about how or when to start: just do it. Start with what you know you can handle, make a routine out of it, and you'll be amazed at how far you go. You can do it.

He never actually said that in any philosophical text. Bodybuilding was only popularized in the late 1800s by Eugen Sandow who was from Germany. Before that, there were strong men but nobody built muscle for the purpose of looking good. Those who were muscular were genetically gifted or had lived through a lot of hardship and developed their muscles for survival in a harsh environment. Socrates was talking about the mind and maybe even cardiovascular endurance, not aesthetics. The person who wrote that quote and popularised it is extremely misinformed.

Watching the "fatphobic" portion made me realize we're about to hit a turning point where all the accusations of phobias and isms aren't going to mean shit any more, because those being accused are just going to say fine, you're right. That's what I am and I don't care. What are you going to do about it? When those women (why is it always women btw?) were talking about what makes you fatphobic I was just like alright, I guess I'm fatphobic then. Who gives a shit? I'm not going to change being fit and you aren't going to do anything about it either, so now what? I'm fatphobic and I'm proud. What are you going to do about it? Oh, nothing? Then shut the fuck up. This video gave me even more motivation. I’m still overweight but I’ve been grinding, going to the gym three times a week, running 2 or 3 times a week, and trying to eat healthier. I’ve made some good progress, but I know I have a long way to go. Seeing other people with the same mindset is so wholesome and makes me wanna keep going even more. The idea behind fat acceptance is built on this idea that you shouldn’t judge someone cause they’re fat I mean most people who are fat know it and don’t need a wake up call. What they may need is to be appreciated for who they are and probably therapy to deal with why they gained weight in the first place. Otherwise most people who try to lose weight fail because they don’t keep it off after losing it.

I’m a fat guy, far less so than I was a year ago but still working to get to a healthy weight. They are right about one thing, I am fat phobic, I am afraid of what being fat has done to me. For most of my life I was in good shape, I worked out and trained in various disciplines of the martial arts until I had some serious injuries that made me stop. I gained over 100 pounds in less than a year and developed heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes and lost physical strength. Depression kicked in and I started eating more and put on another 75 pounds in 6 months. I went from 195 pounds to 380 pounds in 18 months. I am now 230 pounds after 2 years of hard work and strict diet. I’m off the blood pressure medication and the diabetes medication, I’m regaining my strength and my joints don’t hurt nearly as bad as they used to. So yes, I am afraid of being fat, it is a dangerous way to live and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. For the inevitable question, I am on a nearly carnivore diet. I eat beef, pork, eggs, cheese, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, mushrooms and spinach. I give myself one day each month to eat whatever I want. For exercise I walk. I’m hoping to be able to get back in the gym soon.

When ppl talk about fatphobia, it makes want to workout. Story time: I did track and field all throughout middle school and high school. One day I was at a family reunion and met one of my dad’s cousins. She was morbidly obese and literally could not walk. When my dad mentioned that I did track, she then said, “Oh I did track in high school too! I loved running.” In that moment, I hid it, but a new fear was unlocked. How could someone who loves running, become so overweight that she can no longer walk?? That moment has always stuck with me, and now that I’m out of highschool and not training everyday, I’m not as in shape as I would like to be (not overweight in the slightest, but I don’t like not having abs lol). I try to eat healthy and workout when I have the time, but sometimes that moment pops back up and legitimately get scared. I never want to be immobile. Ever. I never want to be unable to run, much less stand. If that makes me fatphobic, so be it.

Damn that's a powerful realization. I have always been very strong and healthy growing up because my dad made me wrestle from second grade to my freshman year of highschool (and I thank him for it every day). But now that I'm on my own, I hadn't been working out like I used to, and I've never gotten fat, or too unhealthy, but I've always remembered how great I felt as a healthy young man and how I used to be able to do any physical feat that I wanted to do without question because my body was just simply capable of doing it. I saw my younger brother one day working out and he was starting to get huge and that motivated me to get a gym membership. It's been around a month and a half now and I've gone every week, six days of the week. I see my muscles coming back, and I'm watching my strength come back as well as my energy levels and motivation. Being immobile is a terrifying thing to imagine when you can remember what it feels like to be healthy. One big motivator that got me back into it consistently was that multiple friends of mine went to the gym so now we hold each other accountable. So, what I wanna say is if you struggle with the consistency a bit (I've been there big time) reaching out to a friend and getting a gym membership together will help immensely. Anyways, take it easy and I wish you happy days!

So I became disappointed in myself for making great progress with my stamina, body, and mind only to let myself go even worse in about the same amount of time it took me to become at my best. i wish i'd gone to the gym when i was in my early 20's. The mental health aspect of it is amazing, though the social media side of it is cringeworthy at times. It's a great way to decompress after work if you have a sedentary job in an office or desk... which most men have these days. Also, coming from someone with lots of sporting injuries, it is also a safe way to get active again... young gym bros know so much about muscle groups and how/what to strengthen in order to get started. These people who are against gym culture are terminally online and need to actually see a gym for themselves to understand the benefit they can get from it.

Tacking "phobic" onto words in the first place was a disingenuous trick by the PC crowd to co-opt the negative connotations of racism onto anything they want. They equated racism with "homophobia", and then extrapolated the "phobic" suffix onto a variety of other labels. Racism is unjustified because we've determined that there is no substantive difference between people based on race. Sexism is unjustified because we've determined there's no substantive difference mentally* between men and women. The same has not been demonstrated for all the other groups they're trying to jumble in together, such as "fatphobia", "islamophobia", "transphobia", etc.

@@ryannath85u do realize that what most of us reasonable folks consider “moderate”, the far left now considers right wing extremism, yes ? There is a correlation though. Yes, I’m certain that there are many that go to the gym and workout , and take pictures of themselves, and buy all the “form fitting” gear for the benefit of their followers. Most of these people (most, I said) are vapid teens and twenty something’s that have little to no interest in the political climate past the point of how it effects their college tuition. I’ve been a “gym bro” since I was a teenager, and at the ripe old age of 47 have seen very few leftists in any of the gyms I’ve frequented. I travel for work, so this isn’t limited only to my exposure of my home town gym. The guys ( and gals ) I talk to (and I talk to everyone) are either moderate right or full-on conservatives. These are the people that force themselves to make this part of their lifestyles because it benefits them in the LONG RUN. The left can’t see past the end of their own nose, and hard work is definitely not in their wheelhouse. Are there some wacko woke kids in there still sponging of daddy that have all day to hang out in the gym in their spandex and move light weight and not break a sweat while they’re filming their tictocs? Sure there are. But it’s certainly not the majority, and most of them fizzle out when they have to start actually working to support themselves. When I was at my lowest, dealing with past trauma and depression, I started going to the gym after less than a year of pretty much training at high intensity and achieving what people usually do in years in months. I have to say nothing feels better than maxing out equipment, putting enough plates on so there is no more space on the barbell or using the highest-weight dumbells. After you get a pump and finish a 2 to 3-hour workout, you get a sense of accomplishment and happiness you don't get from stuffing your face or watching a movie. On the other hand, people promoting fat acceptance hate everything about themselves and are trying to get everyone else fat to feel better about themselves. Even current media, instead of promoting hard work, promotes stagnation and laziness. Any current cartoon or animation children watch nowadays promotes being a loser that lacks discipline until you are given a special ability or just wake up fit or beautiful, and any stories that do otherwise or disagree with diversity for the sake of diversity get cancelled and reviewed bombed. Parents leave their children to be indoctrinated by such ideas until they actually do join the gym and learn; otherwise, they will not know any better. This also leads to many people that quickly give up if they do not see results quickly enough. Out of all the bad that came from TikTok, the new wave of young men joining the gym is great, and I wish I had also been convinced to do so when I was a young teen. Seeing people with physiques you can aspire to achieve can be a high motivator, and with GymTok and RU-vid, men do have that.

It's a shame I have no time to talk more with them, they seem like people I want to hang out with. My discipline demanded I become an athlete, almost a triathlete. Lots of girly exercises (aerobics with chick’s). Incorporated into my cardio aerobic regimen. This fat culture load of crap: the fat one’s coming in. The skinny Beta types you’ve spoke of, they did not make the minimum of standards. I struggled to gain weight my entire life. I was skinny. Lithe. Limber. I’m Hispanic Latino. Texan. Sorta debunks the Nazi Hitler Arayan crap someone spewed out of there cake hole. This talk of fat politics. Pathetic. Hope this world doesn’t accelerate to a survival of the fittest type thing. See how the liberal fat politics works for them. Good program. I’m out to lift now. I’m 63. Gotta hurt the body some…🤙🏽
