Perfectionism can also be a form of procrastination. Excellent job, Ronald.

I quit trying to be perfect because I became a procrastinator. Now I do things good enough to say I accomplished the task, not perfect but acceptable.

We often say things to ourselves that we would NEVER say to a friend. Reframing how we talk to ourselves is a simple yet very effective tool to use each day. Thank you for another great topic Ronald!

You are such a deeply, reflective person. I have been a silent viewer for a few months now, but just wanted to say I appreciate you making videos about finances and other life lessons! It's been a joy to watch and I always look forward to your videos :) I struggle a lot with perfection as well, so this vid definitely home. Thank you for another great video.

Striving for perfection is an easy way to take a toll on your mental health for sure. You fall into the trap of "not being good enough". I dealt with this myself, especially in college. I found the best way to still strive for greatness but without the unrealistic expectations was to set high goals, but achievable expectations. That way, what ever you are doing will turn out great, but without having the negative headspace if it doesn't come out perfect! Great work as always Ronald!

Thanks for this. I realized a few yrs ago I was bogged down with this perfectionism attitude. It did indeed keep me from attempting some goals that wanted to pursue for fear of failure. I still have to convince myself when those thoughts come up that I can do “whatever the new something” is & if it’s not perfect so what, I gave it a try and I won’t have regrets.

I definitely beat myself up sometimes when I’m not perfect at something. Thank you!

I've had to rebel against the tyranny of perfectionism as well. It's awesome to face with compassion and strength our own blemishes in order to confront them and grow, and embrace our own humanity. Preach on, brother!

This is too relatable...and you do such a great job at going straight to the point and explaining it perfectly. I wish everybody watching (and you) luck in battling and winning against perfectionism!!

being a perfectionist has stopped me from pursing so many opportunities. "I think if its not perfect then why even try, I'm just going to fail at it anyways". I really appreciate this video and it definitely helped me open up my mindset. I love all your videos but this video felt like you were talking to me. ❤ Thank You.

Really enjoyed this one as I am currently in a similar stage in life. Changing our self talk and non criticizing ourselves is probably one of the hardest habits to create/break. Thank you for sharing your process.

Hi Ron...you have reminded me.. that some of us are extremely conscientious.. I think it is part of our personalities....could be part of our up bringing....we can be so afraid to get it wrong... because the movie that goes on in our heads of being anything remotely disfuntual is depressing.. thank you for your time and consideration and honesty. You are a wonderful person and I wish you and your family the best Christmas Stay safe. Maria.. Dublin Ireland

Yup, if I 'exposed myself', that would definitely make me the most uncomfortable I've felt in any situation too. ;-)

I think a lot of our things that pile up, a lot of our "delayed decisions" that result it storage boxes/clutter coffins, a lot of procrastination, is the opposite of laziness -- it's perfectionism. You know how to do it but doing it perfectly requires (insert step after step after step). You think seeing it will prompt you and make it easier to do it. Then you develop clutter blindness and you just don't see it anymore. Embracing "good enough" helped me enormously. Understanding that small steps over time are more important than huge, time-consuming efforts periodically. You are right that a lot of it is fear too. Fear of messing up, of not doing it right, of not being good enough can make me just not do it and engage in a distraction so I don't dwell on feeling like a failure. Facing our fears is good advice. Even if it's only one fear a day. Again, small steps over time are more important, and less daunting, than taking on the entirety of a task that feels overwhelming.

Thank you for sharing ❤️ I’ve also realized I’ve put too much pressure on myself for a long time. There’s always been this “but” after every step forward. Now I’m getting to a much more relaxed attitude. I’m constantly telling myself “it’s ok”. Have a great day 🍀

Thanks Ron. I quit perfectionism. Now that I'm in my 70s it like there are more important things in life than trying to make everything just right.

Thank you for this video. I'm sitting here staring at my screen wondering why I can't get to where I want to go on my first novel. I never linked this...writer's block? to perfectionism until this video. Would definitely appreciate more of this type of content. It's amazing how viewing someone else's vulnerability opens up your own. I feel a breakthrough coming. Thank you.

Mr. Banks...you nailed it...my inner critic became my hobby...the time & energy I put in this was insane...I am still working on myself to get out of this and Im not fully there yet but I am aware that it is no longer a hobby...so I am being patient with myself but still working daily to eliminate this bad thought process....Thank you always.

Yes. Perfectionism can prevent you from accomplishing anything. One of our intellectuals said " anything worth doing is worth doing poorly". We've heard "anything worth doing is worth doing well." Both are true. The first means don't be afraid to try. The second means keep trying until you get it right. At least that's my takeaway.

Hi Ronald, thank you very much for this video, where you give us some tips to watch our thoughts. It's very useful. I wonder if you can share an example of what you have done, when you said "I exposed myself". Do you mean that you exposed yourself on RU-vid? or do you think of somewhat else? if it's too personal, you don't need to answer. Thank you very much for this useful video. Cheers.

Thnx Ronald, I enjoyed this video as usual. If you were a Muslim you would have two ways at this; in the matters of this life you would go for good, adequate, enough. Because this life is short and it’s NOT intended to be perfect. It’s the place we’re we are being tested, so it’s not our eternal abode. We will be leaving it sooner or later. In the matters of the Hereafter however, we strive for excellence because that determines our eternal stay either in bliss or misery. The best thing is, the One who will judge our success or failure knows us inside out, so we don’t have to pretend to be perfect or fear that our masks would fall. They are already down.
