However, a woman can just exist and get dates. Getting a young man to stay for a relationship is a different story, though. That's where older men have an advantage. In fact a number of them in the US and elsewhere act pretty vile and entitled toward women and expect them to take care of *them* as well as aging and outnumbering-us-in-say-Gen X parents/millenial grandparents too, *plus* any brood they have ambitions of. This is of course vastly unrealistic, but it's easy for some to stoke that resentment for their own agendas while actually making these situations worse. Meanwhile, I'm kinda glad of my greying hair and being bi, cause these are messed-up times. Japan's also got other baggage about expectations *and* a lot of people just not feeling 'good enough' or settled enough in an urbanized country that had a population as well as economic bubble kind of based on notions of 'infinite growth.' Which of course leaves 'sandwich generations' in a bit of a pickle. (I think especially in a digital age, if I were Japanese, I might want to see about helping save/resettle one of those declining-population towns with a lower cost of living than the big cities, you know with someone I'm comfortable with, even maybe any like-minded group of friends. (I mean, don't get me wrong, I love city life, but my skillset's a lot better-useful in smaller towns where more needs fixing and shop space isn't so hard to come by. In America, that usually means 'college towns,' ...in Japan that might mean places with some tourism or such. ) Anyway, that digression is mostly about "What do you really expect to be *possible,* never mind 'attractive.' " Too often it can mean guys want the two paycheck household *and* 'traditional waifu' that takes care of everything, which tends to get pretty unfair and/or economically nonviable pretty quick. Meanwhile of course people get lonely or 'blame social progress' and want to force things back into a mold few can really fund these days.

All expectations are exclusively placed on men, whenever I hear these women talk it's about what men bring into the relationship but never what they can bring. If they exclusively go for men out of their league then it's quite understandable why so many are unsuccessful. So interesting to hear this, because I’d heard marriage isn’t about happiness, it’s about duty. Happiness isn’t found from another person, it comes when you and the partner overcome obstacles and builds trust when happiness finds its way into relationships. Here in the west, many young women will focus on a career that they themselves don’t like, thinking the right man will just come along like a Disney prince, or some fairytale. Only to realize that they’ve aged past the point that someone would want to marry them, because they’ve given their best time to a job, or to “bad boys” they hope to change and inevitably can’t change. Settling isn’t a bad word to use, whether eastern or western, we live in first world countries with small, petty first world problems, yet we all want something perfect that doesn’t exist.

Why must you love yourself first? Another way to put blame on the individual it seems. Of course the individual could indeed be to blame, but this phrase easily lends itself to support a vicious cycle of not loving myself/therefore I do not deserve love/therefore I don't love myself ... and so on.

@@davec3651 I agree. It is unusual. I have a sister who is like this, sort of like a Vulcan from Star Trek, logical and totally uncaring of what other people think or expect. She is probably genuinely happy being single her whole life, as she would not have patience to deal with a man and definitely never wanted to care for young children. Not to say that she is uncaring generally: she is very thoughtful trying to avoid conflict within the family, and is quick to donate money to help strangers suffering from war or other disaster. My late brother, on the other hand, never married or had children, and I regard it as tragic. He was also a kind and generous person, but definitely more family-oriented. He was just socially awkward and had extremely bad luck with the women he did have relationships with. I think his excessive loyalty to people who did not deserve it was a major issue. He would have made a great dad, but finally got cancer and died without any children.

If you listened properly you would've taken note that women in Japan aren't remaining single because 'no one will appreciate them for who they are', but rather they all have unrealistic and shallow standards that 99% of men don't meet, and they do not appeal to the 1% that does because those would be men that are movie stars and models, and have Victoria's Secret models falling all over them already...I don't see how these women, if they're paying attention at all to the general population of men around them aren't finding a special guy to share their lives with. As a man, I surely notice the very pretty girl in the room, but wouldn't in a million years consider that as a significant reason to socialize with her. In fact having above average looks can be quite a liability in a perspective mate. Never mind I'm not that much of a looker myself, but personality matters a LOT!

I think it depends on the person. For some people, physical attraction will not grow simply due to an emotional attraction. For me, I wasn't attracted to my husband when we first met but as I got to know him I realized just how kind he was and he became more and more physically attractive to me. Now I straight up think he's super hot and we can't keep our hands off eachother, haha.

There's one very, very glaring flaw to your statement. They are going to die totally alone. Not only that but as one get's older they are most likely going to feel increasingly isolated and abandoned. Marriage isn't just about happiness or even self-fulfillment. It's also about creating an actual family. With the increasing vilification of the traditional family across the (For lack of a better term) first-world (largely by feminists) each consecutive generation is doomed to feel increasingly alone and abandoned.

I certainly found being single makes me happier as a person, thats not to say i'm shaming women who want to get marry. Being single has its pros and cons, but i'm just content with the way i live, and thats what peole should try to be tbh😊

Honestly, I enjoy having a single life I do agree on at a certain age a grown woman should move out her parents house tho. Yet I feel that I'd rather be a single woman than a woman who has been pressured to be with a guy to please the social norm and has kids only for him to leave and I end up in a single state anyways only now to be a single mom who they will bash in their videos. I agree love yourself get your subconscious mind right and study psychology and things related to the cosmos. I'm sorry but I believe some women are leftover because the cosmos are saving the best for last and have a differe4nt plan for us if we seek it.

That's because loving someone is different from living with someone. When you like/love someone you tend to ignore a lot of stuff. But once you are past the honeymoon phase you start being critical of everything. So parents(I'm not talking about the toxic ones) usually know the reality of marriage. While parents can only look into finances or family members, its up to the ones getting married to put the work into understanding and learning to live with each other. This is explained 13:27 here perfectly. Otherwise it doesn't matter if it's an arranged marriage or not.

I know Muslim immigrants contribute a lot to the birthrate in Germany. It's an unfortunate reality of prevailing individualist and hedonist narratives influencing women (and men) in an extremely destructive way. Every moral system that is not able to sustain the population is automatically disqualified. If we keep living like this, extinction is a foregone conclusion. No individual comfort can be worth that. This is not the pinnacle of societal development, and we have to get away from it. But we should be carefully looking at what exactly causes issues, and how to address it. Simply reverting everything to prewar society would not be optimal (still better than what is brewing up today, though). The only thing saving the low birth rate issue is the fact that population reduction also means a reduction in our resource use, which is desperately needed and will be needed more and more as less affluent societies industrialise. So right now, there is no urgent need to revert it. But we need to be aware that our society is broken and try to fix the issues that we can afford. Mental health and societal cohesion are issues too. Edit: Slightly changed the wording because it seemed a bit too extreme in hindsight. Well many women choose to be single due to finding a boyfriend a hindrance. This isn't the same for every woman though. I have Japanese female friends that stay single by choice.

I once had some private businessmen who I taught English to in Saitama... They were very friendly but they had some very shallow opinions: Women over the age of 25 are over-the-hill... Miyagi-ken is known to have the ugliest women, they prefer women with small breasts etc. There seemed to be a lot of beliefs/stereotypes which, silly or not, they held on to with strong vigour. In my opinion, this leads to shallow views upon women, making it harder to meet up and also leads to disappointments over shallow expectations etc.

Frankly, there's a whole lot of dudes out there with their own picky standards of 'desirable women' that don't put in any real effort to be desirable, themselves. I had the same exact thought as you when I worked as a caregiver at a massive senior facility. Most were very wealthy, and had highly accomplished kids who lived all over the country and world, and who they barely saw. They often seemed quite lonely, but at least they had each other to socialize with. Marriage and kids doesn't guarantee not dying alone. Getting old just isn't fun for anyone.

The Western practice of dumping their elderly in care homes is the problem there. It's a DISGRACE to threat your family like that unless they're so ill they need 24hr professional care, then one wonders how ethical modern medicine of geriatric care really is for quality of life? You're right about the pressure to marry: Women are the catalysts due to younger competition and peak market value themselves plus ticking biological clock plus the fact they are emotionally mature and ready to have a family eg self-sacrifice where men are not unless they're older and more established hence the asymmetry. Religion in the past has helped purely by created a SHARED VALUES psychological environment for people to aid them to cooperate with each other at a DEEPER level eg think tree with deep roots connecting with neighbouring trees and tying their roots together making them all stronger when a big storm comes along. The other issue is Nuclear Family puts too much strain on family rearing where extended family works best with 3 generations to a home and/or 2 couples system of shared child-rearing plus local community. This all used to happen and still does in various cultures but the West is WEIRD.

But in the same time, what can the kids do if they have important careers and job responsibilities? My mom is getting paid by the gvt to take care of my grandma rt now. She gets paid hardly enough to survive though the health insurance is really good. Also, ever since she started working with my grandma (who has dementia), my mom's health has deteriorated a lot. My mom ends up having to stay up all night with her because grandma has sundowners syndrome and wanders at night. She constantly has to coax my grandma repeatedly into doing the most basic activities of daily living. Grandma often is uncooperative and many days doesn't want to even get up out of bed. My mom comes home so drained after grandmas. Its not easy living with and caring for an aging parent, you basically have to give up your life and health, in many situations. especially if your parent gets dementia or some other debilitating condition. And it's worse if your siblings don't want to share the responsibility of caring for the parent. This is the case for my mom, and I've heard similar situations in my community. We're Russian and in our culture we care for the elderly in the family. But it can be extremely taxing on the mind and body once the elderly person gets very weak/demented and needs higher care. So I cannot blame people even though I don't think it's ideal. And I know my grandma wouldn't last long in a senior facility. She's scared to death of being placed in one, and it would be heartbreaking to do that to a loved one. It's just such a dilemma. I guess that's what happens when you live in a developed country with good health care. People live longer than they would have naturally, and this places a burden on the kids and on the gvt. Im not sure if living long is necessarily a good thing unless you are very healthy and independent in old age. Most of the residents at facility I worked were in their late 80s to mid 90s, some even lived past 100. So they lived independently until they just became very very old and weak and had to move to a facility. Its not that their kids were necessarily heartless, its just that these elderly became a lot of work. Honestly, if I had kids, I dont think I could blame them for placing me in a senior facility. I would hate to burden them and hold them back from achieving their dreams.

That goes for any country. Not just Japan. People just seem to want to be married for the sake for being married and they don’t want to leave their partner for reasons like they depend on them, they have kids together, etc.

Because we in germany are by western standards also very bad in communication and social skills. Small talk, talking to stranges, flirting and similar is not in favor of our culture regardless north or south (Rhineland mabye the only exception).

After 30, it drops fast with greater risks of birth defects and issues. A mother being over 30 doesn't invalidate biology as there are exceptions. In Northeast Asia, children are the major goal of marriage to continue the family line. Biology places hard limits on fertility. IVF and egg freezing aren't optimal. IVF for older women increases birth defects substantially. Egg freezing has its own issues from financial issues (company going bankrupt), poor freezing procedures, etc...

@@HienPham-ow5ky I used to envy married couples who appeared to be happy but I don't envy them anymore. Being in a relationship is a lot of work and compromising constantly. I love my freedom and I think some of my girlfriends envy me now. One of my friends has two kids to two different men and is now single again. She has to deal with the dads constantly and can't leave the country with her kids. I don't envy that. It sounds stressful.

Most woman who feel lonely have had at least some relationships and sex while most guys end up going to failed dates paying their hard earned money and at the end of the day they are without a relationship and virgins at times. In perspective woman are doing far better for cheaper which is why i am more sympathetic towards single men.

Of course they can. They see the SAME problems repeated hundreds of times in their lifetimes. And they STILL tell them to marry before 25 when the men they want want them, but a lot still don't then are surprised when men don't want to date nor marry 30 year old women or older. So sad. @@mahek3017 It is a conundrum. People should in general get married young when hopefully both people are pliable and willing to work with the other to make things work. On the other hand a lot of people particularly guys in their 20s just aren't mature enough for marriage. Some people have it together and that is where your parents or older mentors can help. I would say if you have a good relationship with your parents then you should definitely lean on your parents for advice on who would make a good partner/spouse. When I was younger I was really against arranged marriages but now that I am older I now see the conundrum we are now facing with everyone for themselves culture we have now.
