I am an IIT Kharagpur passout and honestly, at the end of it all, I didn't feel like it was worth the hardwork and the sleepless nights I put in to get there. I have many great memories and friends but that's about it. Very few students are really passionate about their branch of study or innovation. 99% students are after good salaries but you can't blame them because of their financial situation. I wish it was more fun academically

The problem with Indians is, our people never accept that they have been good at something their whole life. It's not about being humble, it's straight up lieing and misleading others. Like most of these students, who kept on saying, "I am an average student". Why not just proudly say, "I was a topper everywhere". This would provide the right guidance to those who need it

You can imagine that's how our mindset becomes. And to be honest we get judgemental about people in general, regarding what job they do ! So if you go around in India saying you work as a driver in Uber, or work as a waiter, or just dance....... you will be looked down upon !! Not red for the exam? Bro don't lie. If you're a topper that literally means that you red for the exam. How else would you get the knowledge of different subjects. It's not like you are born with knowledge regarding science subjects. You're not a computer. Even computer takes time if you copy paste data from one device to another. I think you should have said that I don't read for long hours because some people are quick at consuming the information than some others because of various factors. But still you have to read for storing that information in your brain.

@@lonewolfe2502 you can be topper, if you have just listened to all the class and knew concepts and haven't read the book that much.. Actually there is not that kind of gender bias anymore apart from in very small villages in the remotest part of the country. The thing is that girls do not prefer engineering that much and their parents also expect them to go for medicine more. So, if you will see the stats there are a lot more girls in medicine than in engineering. So, I would say that the parents are to blame not in case of not getting their daughters educated but not giving them the freedom to go for the field they want to.

@scorpiogirl2192
@scorpiogirl2192 Год назад
The reason for this is reserved seats. If you learn that actually IITs don't have a genius mind only cause although they have exams, the reservation system makes it worse for many students. For example my brother is from the general category although he was a good student throughout his career and he didn't get selected even after his second attempt and the funny thing is the candidate who got selected in IIT Bombay was his batchmate from the scheduled caste category. Even the topper of his class got selected after the second attempt but the boy got selected in the first attempt. The suicide ratio of IIT increase day by day cause those reservation candidates can't handle the pressure of the race there. How can someone handle that much pressure if they don't deserve a sit there right.

Just because they're not fluent in english(which is not their mother tongue) you're disregarding their skills and talent!? india is slowing shedding away the inferiority complex which has been a huge burden on it since the independence. The people you're talking about from the 70s were the ones who were elite, who were ashamed of their culture, the ones who left their country for good. These new students are actually the real middle class ones who had to work hard to get into these institutes unlike back in the days where competition wasnt that big. These guys are not eloquent because they dont come from rich english speaking families who are already westernised these guys are commoners who are very good at what they are pursuing i.e engineering.

Chasing “success”. The issue is we or the most Indians chase success. And the success is defined by society, relatives, friends, families at a “given point of time!” So I chased 90% in my board and 12th so that I get a Govt engineering college for engineering!! That was THE success for an Indian in 1991. Later, securing a job in a big org and then going abroad (USA) and earning $$$ and buying a house/flat in a big city in India … THAT was the success … later it was marriage and kids and so on… so I kept on chasing idea of success which was defined at that time by the surroundings .. I wanted to be called successful by others ..! 🙃😀 yes life has been good and privileged also due to my efforts from 10th to engineering - total 6 years. But if it wasn’t this - I would be today on creative field mostly Bollywood - an all-rounder like Thigmanshu Dhulia and also a of course astrologer which I loved from 1991 in parallel to whatevr I did - I always did astrology case studies and analysis … watched movie every week earlier and every day once online … so yes we all tend to chase idea of success as it is defined at that time …!

Government colleges like IITs and Aiims are heavily subsidised by government so people don’t have to pay a lot in terms of Tuition fee. My sister only paid 2700 annually for 4.5 years of government medical college in delhi. So that’s why parents also push students to attend government universities as they are efficient ie good education at low cost. Whereas private universities charge exorbitant fee. Especially for medicine courses. And the quality of education might not even be at par with top government universities. Some private universities like Manipal are considered prestigious though. So people who can pay and are smart enough to crack the entrance exam go there. This is only for medicine and engineering. It’s a different scenario for law and other courses.

No offense to all the students that cracked IIT-JEE but what people do not talk about is the number of students who are driven to suicide because of this competition. Students are made to believe that if they cant get into IITs then their entire life is wasted and there is no reason to be alive anymore. A lot of Indian students do not have the courage and live through adversities. At some point students and parents need to realize that there is more to life than IIT. Having said that, it's easier for the students to focus on their education completely compared to their American counterparts because most of the students do not need to worry about at a grocery store while studying. Parents usually carry the financial burden of the their kid's education, be it their personal wealth or educational loan. There is still a lot of growth that needs to happen in the education sector in India.
