I fell in love with the UK version...and then season 4 happened...and my interest in the show died with Mitch, Nina and George. Mitch's death was tolerable because it was a fitting close to a story that had come full circle. But Nina and George's passing was just bullshit. Nina didn't even get to die on screen, she was just killed off with a single line of dialogue. I demand trial by combat.

+imyouandurme But how do you feel about Annie's farewell? Does her story arc in some way show the most completion of the three original house mates?

Gleebroyable I stopped watching before Annie left. I couldn't bear to see her go. She was the spine of that show. Without her, there's just no point. The fact that she was the last remaining original cast member just made me sad. So I ditched the show altogether.

Maybe if I had seen the US one first it would have been ok, but having watched all of the UK version and then starting the US version, it made me cringe. The main reason I am in love with the UK version is because of the characters, not the actual plotlines and drama. The characters have a real connection and friendship, and as a viewer all you want is for them to be ok. My favorite scenes are when they're all together just having a good time. The US version was way too dark, and while the UK version did have drama (which I also loved) it was never the main focus like in the US version. I also think it says something about the quality of the UK version that they can change their entire cast and still have loyal fans. I love Annie, Mitchell, and George so much that I sometimes forget they even left, but then I remember and realize I love Hal, Tom, and Alex just as much.
@SummerDaina

+PIRATEatNIGHT You'll notice that difference between a focus on characters vs.storylines is one of the CENTRAL differences between anything that comes out of the States (and even Canadian shows and movies, though not always) and the UK. Most of our television shows are about over-arching themes and plotlines and drama, and less about really well-built, interesting, engaging characters. Its just not always the case. I mean, the UK version of Being Human's last season (and even the second-to-last season) mirrored the way U.S. shows tend to have a story arc. I just think it depends on a) what you're familiar with and b) what's really important to you. I think the characterizations of the people in both shows was really good, and one of the reasons I was so impressed with the US version, and I saw the UK version first. But I agree that the US version is a bit lacking when it comes to the fun that the three characters have with each other. The humor in the US show could be MUCH more angsty and happened in the midst of bloodbaths, and less while the characters were just hanging out with each other getting pissed.
@TheRealJaneSeymour
@TheRealJaneSeymour 4 года назад
@@SummerDaina US version had no bad language, imho that is why it's lacking in the story and/or characters. In the UK version they got right to the point "give me back my fucking baby". US version didn't have that the worst thing that was said was "bitch" i believe. Now ik that's not all of it but UK seemed more real and like it could be us up there in the story with what we'd do or say, US tv rules really sucks😭

I side with the UK version. I love the characters, and how it was written overall. Though, I remember taking a hiatus from it after Mitchell died cause I honestly thought the show wasn't going to be as good anymore. I was COMPLETELY wrong! In all honesty, I thoroughly enjoyed it and the new characters. Really loved Tom and Hal. I especially loved Hal's good/bad personality and how different the blood temptations were for him vs. Mitchell's. I'm not entirely sold on the US version though. The characters do look a bit Hollywood for my taste.

I've seen the US version, and am currently on season 3 of the Uk version. I like them both a lot. I don't know why this was such a big deal to me, but I may like the US version more because we got to see more of Sally's journey. Like, in the uk version she can already move objects, leave the house, etc... I just liked seeing that a lot in the us version

I feel like a lot of the British fans hated the U.S. version before it even aired. Which, though I think is unfair, is also slightly understandable. No one likes seeing something they love revamped. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? But at the same time, it's such a shame they don't give it a chance. I was a fan of the British version and absolutely love what the U.S. version is doing with their show. The actors feel honored to be identified with such great work. Two very great shows!

Also I love Annie but her abilities makes entirely no sense. How can Supernatural creatures have the ability to touch her let alone she feel pain. When ghosts are just apparitions. What stroke me as odd was even from the first season when she was first introduced. Annie had the ability to make coffee, tea, and make meals. If we were basing this fantasy series with a slight of realism. How can a ghost have such capabilities right off the back. In that case I would hire 1 as a personal maid lol

i watched the first episode of the US version like a year ago and hated it, but i ran out of stuff about a month ago and decided to give it a second chance. i fell in love with it. I loved the characters. i think they all have depth and are interesting. Josh and Nora have an interesting relationship, its very real. it up and down. Josh, Aiden, Nora, and sally all had such a deep bond. it was amazing to watch. needing blood is what a vampire is, so i think its stupid how they did it on the UK version. while i was watching the US version, they added the UK version to Netflix and i was ecstatic. i tried watching it and i just couldn't it bored me. Like you said, the US version has more drama and that drama is what i live for and the UK version just didn't do it for me.

Having watched both, I just found the US series more interesting. I found stronger bonds between Sally, Aidan and Josh than between Annie, Mitchell and George. And I don't think either really lacked in humour - perception of this often is swayed towards what you've grown up with, but since I live in Australia and have been raised on a combination of British and American humour, I saw both in equal amounts. But I just felt something extra in the US version.

I've been watching the US version since it began and I'm sooo sad to see it end next week.I've only seen a bit of the UK version, but so far I'd have to say that I like the US version a lot more. Mainly because of Josh... I think Josh's storyline is the best on the show, and he's definitely my favorite character. When the US version ends next week I will finish watching the UK version. Oh and you're wrong about one thing. It is implied in the US version that when Aiden is hanging out with Bernie (the kid across the street) that others see him as a pedophile. At some point Aiden tells Bernie to go to his room to get a Three Stooges dvd and Bernie steals a pornographic video that Rebecca made for Aiden, of her having sex with a man in a hotel room and then draining him of his blood, thus killing him. Bernie's mom sees the video up to the point of sex, freaks out and confronts Aiden (luckily not having seen the vampire feeding) and accuses him of being a pervert. She tells him to stay away from her son, and thus Aiden isn't there to rescue Bernie when he runs out into traffic while being bullied. After Bernie dies of his head injury in the hospital, Rebecca brings him back and the story goes on a bit from there. Marcus (Bishop's right hand man) kills the bullies and makes it look as though Bernie did it, and Aiden (believing it was Bernie) takes Bernie out to the woods and kills him. As I said I much prefer the US version which is ending next week, but will finish the UK version after that.

I preferred the UK version because it was all a lot more 'human' (pardon the pun), the characters were much more like normal people and the whole show had a real charm to it. The comedy aspect is one of the reasons I liked it so much, retrospectively! Also Herrick is so much more scary than Bishop... in my opinion, anyway. The US version was definitely more high drama and like you said more supermodel type people, which to be honest made it blur into all the other US werewolf/vampire shows which all feature handsome guys, beautiful girls etc. and as I watched it second I think I felt that it lacked depth, so I never really grew to like and understand the characters anywhere near as much. Your comment about Annie being a less strong character for instance - I mean to me that was a big part of her personality that she was a lot more shy and unassuming and it made her feel more like a regular person. I liked Alex but didn't believe her character quite so much because it was so un-flawed. The flaws and the quirks are charming, for me!

I recently finished watching the US version and thoroughly enjoyed it. I then tried to watch the UK and I'm afraid it isn't for me. Maybe if I had watched the UK version first it would've been fine, but the US version sets production and aesthetic standards the UK version cannot match. You can see the US version had the better budget and yes, I am shallow in this regard, the US version has a way better looking cast. Also, I don't like the way Episode 1 of the UK version rushes in. The US one at least sets the characters up. The US one offers enough back story that lets you know that Aidan and Josh (especially Josh) are at odds with what they are while Mitchell and George don't give you that feeling. The whole ''let us try and be human'' chat in the US version is also sorely lacking in the UK variant. You get to see Aidan and Josh discuss moving in together and meeting Sally while all of a sudden George and Mitchell are moving in and suddenly know Annie. After 1 episode I felt I was starting to know Aidan and Josh while after the first UK episode I was still asking ''who are these people on my screen?''

Good synopsis of both shows! And I agree -- the US version is slightly better. Not so much in Season One when it rehashed the UK's stories, but in Season Two when they started doing their own thing. I don't often say this about US remakes of UK shows, but the writers, by Season Two, made the US version their own and not a weak knockoff (like Elementary & Sherlock, for instance).

In fact, as of recent, since both series are coming to an end, I've noticed a shift. The US version is getting much more deserved credit I have deep attachments to Aiden, Sally, Josh and Nora. And will be sad when it ends. However, I will remain open-minded and interested in watching the UK original. I also made a conscious choice not to watch them simultaneously, as many viewers did. As I did not want to find myself stuck in a place of constantly comparing the two, rather just enjoying each journey individually with character and story development. Frankly, after watching the original show, I don't think I particularly care for the American version. There were some flaws in the BBC production, inconsistencies in the storytelling that irked me. And I didn't care for the habit of making certain things happen off screen or between seasons and not actually showing things happening, such as George killing Wyndham or Nina being killed. Those were stories I felt could have been told on screen. I also felt that the U.K. version's ending left off on a bad note, with the trio being caught in Hatch's dream world while he did God knows what with the real world, and the DVD tack-on isn't necessarily accessible to everyone. And replacing the entire central cast for seasons 4 and 5 made me feel like the show was starting over from scratch in an effort to pull some kind of do-over. Having said that, there was much to like about the U.K. version that is far superior to the American remake. It was never afraid to show people with ordinary, non-Hollywood looks, or hold back from depicting central characters in a negative light with brutal scenes and uncensored content. Mitchell goes wild after his friends are killed and he spends the next season dealing with the guilt and fallout and the consequences. When the principal actors were replaced, the new cast members were given their own characters with their own backstories and quirks instead of simply writing for the same characters with different actors. The humor is typically dry and sarcastic, which I love, and the show writers were never afraid to put their actors through enough hell to break them, and make them sympathetic. The story pacing was well done for the season lengths (six to eight episodes), so filler episodes were non-existent.

I'm an American, I saw the UK version first and prefer it to the US version. Also, Mitchell became a vampire in the First World War, not the Second. I think the UK version is more realistic and the acting is better as is the writing. The US version is too glossy, too pretty, too convoluted in the story lines and relies too much on CGI. It's amazing that the UK version was able to exist after losing all the original cast, and the newbies were just beginning to find their legs when the series was scrapped. And now, the US version is also gone... For Americans who have only seen the US version, give it a try with an open mind and try not to compare the two shows. And for Brits I would say the same thing. They both have good and bad qualities, I just prefer the UK original. For both groups, enjoy: Being Human (Original UK and US) -- Mad World

I love both shows IMMENSELY. I'm American, saw the UK version first, watched the US version as soon as it came out, own both on DVD. And think they're both really very great, with different strengths and weaknesses. I prefer the more realistic ghosts in the US version, and Sally's trapped-ness is much more apparent here. Annie could be seen by other, regular people sometimes, and was able to get a job, which Sally could never really do. And Annie's clothes changed, though Alex and Sally's never did. Idk. I just think that the continuity on the ghost condition was better in the US. Josh and George are my favorite characters, (which now includes Hal and Tom because they're totally adorable, especially together), but I think I prefer Josh to George. But they're both pretty adorkable. And awkward. I think you're right about the vamp storylines in the UK version being a bit stronger than in the US, but I also believe the werewolves and ghosts, and later witches, got much more play in the US version, and that's pretty awesome in my humble opinion. It was cool that Josh, Aiden, and Sally got it from all sides, whereas Mitchell, Annie, and George were basically always facing crap from this horrible vampire elite. It wasn't until the last season, really, that we had our trio facing a baddie that wasn't a vampire in the UK. Or had something to do with vampires. I think Hal was the best vampire, better than either Mitchell or Aiden. He practically had a split personality because of his "condition" and the blood drinking (love the way that comes into play towards the end of the show). I love that both shows treat blood-drinking as an addiction, though you're correct about it being way more of a food source in the US show (though Aiden does explain some of the differences drinking "live" as opposed to the blood bags he drinks). And I think Sally is the best ghost. She is a stronger character, and personality, than Annie, and more fully developed than Alex (though if the show had run longer, I think my opinion could've changed, because we would've had more time with Alex). Sally also had the most epic storyline of the three ghosts. You're right about the first season as well. Its weaker in the US version. Sally and Josh really up the ante in later seasons, so they're better, and the UK version is much quicker at flushing out the characters and showing the audience who these people are, and what they mean to each other. But ultimately, I think the US show was much more cohesive as a narrative, and easier to follow. The plotlines were tighter, and better. I think I'd really like to see like the Real World: Being Human show, with all of these characters in the same place. I don't think any of them would get along actually. Except for Tom, who would get along with everyone, because he's easily the most kindhearted person that ever featured on either show.

Shavana Baker Hi Shavana, thanks for review. First I have to say that the standard of written English in these comments is way above average for a RU-vid comments section. Maybe that says something about the people who like watching these types of dramas? Anyhow, a point I haven't seen mentioned is that the UK version, being aired on the BBC, has no commercials, so episodes are 15 minutes longer, & therefore have to be differently paced. Plus this was produced for BBC3. That's like a testing ground channel for new series. From your review I think the US version sounds great. I have a great fondness for the UK version, but unlike many Brits I don't mind when UK programmes get Americanised for US audiences. Generally Americans do a much better job of adaption than we British do when we strive to adapt US programmes. Truth is we don't adapt, we just copy. The results are mostly uninspiring. But in reverse, Americans often vitalise great concepts. A vampire, a werewolf, & a ghost striving to live normal lives? BTW, I like Sinead Keenan, I'm sure you can guess why.

US has a lot more character in depth details to how they got to where they are, more visual stunning effects, realism when it comes to Supernatural character capabilities, visually appealing background and front actors(who are physically more in shape), non raced chased relation(built up relationships and not rushed), and better scenery. I like the UK version a lot but its hard sometimes to get around some of the characters hard accents and slang words not known in the US. US version is my pick

I started with the US version and then watched the UK version. My biggest takeaway was the fact that the US version has more character development, the story arch was there for each of them individually as well as a group. Especially the ghost dealing with the transition and discovering the nature of her abilities. The UK didn’t do it enough justice for me but I also know it was the original and the US version had an opportunity to revise those things, which they did amazingly

*spoilers* Mitchell was killed by George, George killed himself trying to save his baby daughter Eve,Tom comes in to protect Annie and Eve, Haul brings his werewolf friend to see baby Eve because they belief she is the savior and will help the werewolf with his sickness, and Alex went on a date with Haul which went wrong and she ended up getting killed by a vampire which she then became the ghost and stayed with Tom and Haul.

I watched both I prefer the US version they took a couple key points from the UK version and ran with it instead of with the UK they kind of just left it as a little tidbit also the UK version eventually lost a lot of its main actors and got different story points which to me seem like one of those things that happened to a show where the actors just don't want to stay but they continue it anyways

The US version followed the UK version's storylines through Season one. The S& M storyline did happen between Aiden and Rebecca. Also the little boy in the US version was bullied by other kids. Aiden mentored him. Rebecca sent a DVD of herself getting kinky with and feeding off of some senator or something. She sent that vid to Aiden. The boy had been over to Aiden's house and wanted to borrow a Laurel and Hardy classic movie or two. He accidently grabbed the wrong video, his mom found out, and the mom told Aiden never to see her son again. The boy got bullied and pushed out onto a busy road and got hit. He later died in the hospital but resurfaced as a vampire. Rebecca wanted a son with Aiden so she turned the boy. the boy killed his bullies. Aiden had to put the boy down. Very sad. Aiden also put Rebecca down.

I prefer the UK version better. I just hate it when UK shows get remade, like Life on Mars. The UK Life on Mars was much better than the US one because the UK one has nostalgia and you can understand the comedy. Whereas the US is just glossy and I can't really connect with the US one. But then this comment could be biased because I'm British, lol! :) I've just talked about a completely different show sorry but you get my point.

I live in America and started watching the UK version before the US show was being made. Without a doubt, I found the UK version so much better! Not only was clever and funny and written for a broad-range audience, but the acting was so much better! The US version seems to be written for teens and twenty-somethings. After giving the US version a go for a few seasons, I had to stop watching because I though the scripts and acting weren't very good.

Acting wise. Both are good, but the emotional ties and struggles are much more deep. As the UK version characters have struggles but play into more of a dry comedic sense. The US version has slight humor with dark humor mixed in. A well as the US version nicely throws in past Scenery to tie into current events so you know how everything ties in together. While the UK version a lot of things are thrown at you. While you are trying to piece certain events together that are not even provided.

US version is way better than the UK imo, The chemistry among its three characters+bishop and the bromance between Aidan and Josh was unmatched and felt so real and enjoyable unlike the uk actors... also the UK production and cinematography looked so cheap and the dry humor wasn't funny at all.. I really felt boring that I barely finished the first season alone..that my opinion.

In regards to accents George and Annie are perfectly fine compared some of the other characters. I do not like Mitchel period. Tanned?(vamps avoid sun bathing lol), hippie soccer player looking vampire who needs to where cutoff gloves with greased hair; which makes no sense whatsoever. Mitchell looks like he delivers Pizza in Italy somewhere. Aiden is a lot more appealing, very much so intellectual, and gives off that look of what a vamp should be in the decades of watching Vampire Flicks.

I haven't watched the US version as I don't have Sky but I must say that if the vampire in the American Being Human had been any other actor than Sam Witwer, I might have been tempted. I cannot say I like his acting one little bit. He ruined Smallville for me.My favourite character is Hal (the gorgeous Damien Molony), followed by Mitchell (another gorgeous actor, Aidan Turner). I think it is a shame that the British version has finished. I have ordered the DVD which should be here shortly.

I'm going with George for this one. Yeah, he may be a jewish geeky and scared person. but that's where the comedy came in. He's a lovable werewolf who drew out to be stronger than he was before his character died. He improved throughout the series to his demise. Plus.. UK Special Effects for the werewolves is far.. far superior to the cgi crud the us had to encounter. Granted it is needed for the show but come on.. real special effects trump cgi no mater what cause or reason. It just does.

In the US version I liked how they kept the capabilities of what a ghost can and can not do to a more realistic sense for Lucy. I do wish the Vampire fangs were brought from the UK version onto the US version though. Yet I like the US werewolf transformation a lot better. Then the rubber mask transformation and werewolf costume you can get in any Halloween store in the US. Yet I wish we could swap Josh with George xD Love Annie and Lucy. Aiden is amazing and Mitchel needs to take a hike lol

I love the UK version better than the new version but I haven’t really watch the new version like that. I’m getting into it but it’s like basically the same storyline which I don’t know why, they just couldn’t continue the UK version because the UK version was more eye-catching I guess because when you see the UK version you be like well those are my favorite characters I like the play I like how things the whole script goes, but I’m getting ANSI it is being here me USA but I rather see my old characters from the UK play this and continue their seasons because there are some good actors from the UK they really caught in my heart and it was just don’t know how to really put it but moving and I could relate to it in my every day life❤

I haven't seen the us version yet, but I cant imagine anything much better than the UK version. I loved the gritty and harsh storylines, they were so well told and I couldn't look away. I loved every character of the UK version, except for Annie maybe (she just got on my nerves). Hal and Mitchell are the best though! The 2 male leads are American. If you look at Nora vs Nina or Bishop Vs Herrick or even Josh vs George. I dont know if i'd say 'unrealistically attractive' , and i know all the versions of the charcters have their fans , but if you lined them up and asked someone who hadnt seen either show which cast was the 'prettier' id bet they would pick the U.S. / Canada.
