From Mértola, the last navigable port on the Guadiana River, archaeologist Susana Martínez Gómez presents a historical perspective of the Alentejo as a privileged place of coexistence, where we meet other people: "people who were in the same space at the same time, speaking several different languages, probably all understanding each other in Latin, but who nevertheless kept their specificity, their own traits".
The Mértola Archaeological Site, created in 1978, has developed intense scientific activity over the years, focusing on history and archaeology, but also on museography and pedagogy. In the mini-documentary #SENDO Mértola Archaeological Field, which we are launching today on Évora_27's digital channels, we delve into the history and memories of the site, which are also those of the Alentejo.
