VIDEO TAKEN AUGUST 28TH, 2007.
On this day, we follow the NYS&W #142 along the Pennsy's former branchline to Trenton, NJ. This video is dedicated to the late Walter G. Rich, who fell victim to cancer in July of 2007. He is one of the reason the #142 is here in America and is still running to this day. He will be missed dearly.

@HUTCHtopher - It does get used during the weekends the train operates and the Maintence of Way crew usually takes care of the track - Again, this video dates back to 2007, so the line has been cleaned up somewhat, I believe :)

It's fitting that 142 is wearing a Pennsy 3 chime whistle on this trip along former Pennsy trackage. Great video. Five stars! -Max

The front end looks like an NKP S-2 Berkshire locomotive to me.

It's easy to see why NJ is called the Garden State. It almost looks like it might be called the Jungle State. No need for fertilizer.

@southern4501isawesom The Valley Railroad has an SY they are rebuilding to a New Haven 2-8-2. The Boone Valley Scenic in Iowa has the JS 2-8-2, the in-between SY and QJ model.

At 0:40 the builders plate translates to: "Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works built this in May 1989"

Correction!!!! The NSYW 142 was not broght over seas by Walter rich. The Essex valley owned it and it was originally 1647 (brought over at the same time as the Knox and Kane engine ironicly). the NSY&W like the idea so much they ordered their own and it was #erd 141 however the trade ship hauling it to america sunk in the bay of bengal...... so NSY&W made the Essex valley an offer they couldn't refuse and in the late 80's it came to be NSY&W 142!!! From Jim boyd in Mark1video's Valley RR vid

@thersaholycow One of the 2 other sisters to this locomotive is now located on the Valley Railroad in Essex, CT(now numbered 3025)..as for the other sister. Well it is sitting at the bottom of the ocean somewhere last i heard.

Yeah, that was from the old Knox and Kane railroad that went under in PA years ago.

No your talking about New Haven 3025. That’s the engine from the K&K. It was purchased by the Valley Railroad and was restored as a New Haven steam engine.

@boberttrain831
@boberttrain831 14 лет назад
@devins1234, but they are going to extend the line to Riegelsville, and that's about 10 miles of track.

this is a Chinese SY type steam locomotive...built by Datong Locomotive works in China...these locomotives...are based on American ALCO and Baldwin steam locomotive designs...several Chinese built QJ type locomotives have been imported to the United States...Chinese steam locomotives are generally smaller and less powerful than comparable American steam locomotives

You BLAST the WHISTLE LONG AND LOUD for non-signaled grade crossings! Full grade crossing whistle sequence. What was this meek nonsenese? Slowing down accomplishes nothing. Love the grass-covered track. Glad you replaced the POS Chinese whistle. Nice video! Well done! Rich died a happy man bringing a locomotive here.

@CSX6000 hahha well yes but is it an actualy similar to an american prototype or did they just paint her with some random roadname? im not familar with eastern railroads

At one time, you could buy a NEW chinese steam loco!!
@jockellis
@jockellis 13 лет назад
In the late 1940s, the Chinese government bought one of several types is American locomotives then reverse engineered them just as they still do with American products. Saves on engineering costs.

/it is kinda weird that they copied an American loco then brought it back here and now we are ohhh-ing and ahhh-ing a chinese built engine

the only reason that engine came into existance is because of J david conrad who had to fly to china to guide the builders in the US boiler codes and saftey regs in the early 80's ironicly the Knox and Kane was the other one he helped guide them to build for the k&k
