Belarus says Ukraine amassing troops at border amid incursion into Russia

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko says Kyiv has stationed more than 120,000 soldiers along its border with Belarus, the country’s state news agency reported, as fighting continues amid Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.
Lukashenko, a staunch ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said on Sunday that Minsk had deployed nearly a third of its armed forces along the entire border in response to the Ukrainian deployment, BelTA reported. Kyiv did not immediately respond to the claims.
Al Jazeera’s have two correspondents covering these developments. Dorsa Jabbari reports from Moscow and Alex Gatapolus reports from Kyiv.

They have the capacity if they ramped up enlistment & conscription, but Belarus wouldn’t be a target as long as Belarus doesn’t further aid in Kremlin villainy. The border with Belarus is already heavily mined & protected.

Lukashenko goes from saying that we should "give back" Białystok to Belarus to granting Poles visa free access to border areas. At first I thought he was just out of his mind, but now I see that he's actually smart in his dictatorial way...

It's not BS. Back in Feb, 2022, Belarus was the staging ground for a Russian invasion of Ukraine that saw a 40-mile long military convoy from southern Belarus to the outskirt of Kyiv. Ukraine hasnt even started conscripting people under 25 yet... manpower problems are relative. Of course a country at war for its survival wants more manpower.... but its manpower was truly dangerously low, we would see alot more desperation in conscription measures.

Yes, and he is only still in office because he is protected by his secret police and the Russian army. If the Belarusian people could decide, Belarus would long ago be a free, democratic country and possibly a member of the EU. I also remember the protests of 2020-2021 when he bloodily suppressed the people. I think the Belarusian people would like to get rid of him sooner rather than later and no longer be a vassal of Russia.

The “But we have nukes” refrain is for Russia’s home audience and only started being used when Russia’s initial attack into Ukraine started disintegrating in March 2022, exposing the reality of their conventional forces capabilities. The Kremlin was told very early on what would happen if nukes were used in the field. It wasn’t that other countries would use theirs because they wouldn’t need to - NATO’s conventional forces would go into Ukraine.

That was made very clear to the Kremlin right at the start of the invasion. Tactical nukes are really only any good against fixed targets, so not a viable weapon for Russia, apart from the initial shock value. The Kremlin would also have to claim that Ukraine posed an existential threat to Russia, something which they’d really, really hate doing. Having fallout blowing back into Russia would also not be an ideal outcome for them either.
