Union Saint-Guilloise stadium is incredibly outdated and I love it for that reason, it looks like something which no-one has touched in at least 50 years.
The Stade du Pays de Charleroi was rebuilt for Euro 2000 with a capacity of 30,000, then reduced to 25k shortly after. Another 10k reduction happened about a decade later, leaving it at less than half the Euro 2000 capacity. It looked great with the extra tiers on, especially the odd shaped side stand.
Yes, I still remember how it looked liked during the Euro 2000 with these extra tiers where Germany, playing an awful Euro and finished last in the group stage, was defeated by England 1-0 in Charleroi. The stadium looked completely different back then, especially because of these modern looking roofs which were removed due to the capacity reduction.
Being a Canuck eh I think Pays de Charleroi is pronounced "Stahd doo Pay-ee duh Sharl-uh-roo-ah". I love these stadiums all football specific, all a little different and a lot of character. Perfect size for football, most have a little old a little new. A lot of the ones that haven't been refurbished remind me of English stadiums in the lower divisions from the 80s (which is a good thing).
Brilliant video as usual 👍🙂 The commentary is what makes them so watchable, with the witty tongue in cheek remarks 🤣 Keep up the great work as you near 100k subscribers 👍
Finally, a decent League, which isn't the 6th English League (with tiny stadiums) or college cricket etc. I really like your videos, but some of them are not interesting (because of the stadiums/arenas).
@@toogyman sure, but 6th english League video was a bit obscure. Wouldn't even describe most of them as stadiums. Okay, but somehow many people watched the video about those football fields. So it was a good decision
I was born next to Charleroi stadium. (Dumb politician destroyed maternity and it's too notch equipment back in 1985) , the new stadium project started early April 2023 with information campaign before setting the first stone. Project expected to be accomplished by 25/26 What's crazy with EL story of Union is they played Union Berlin 4 times (2w-1l-1d) Leverkusen was stronger (but they couldn't beat Club Brugge before WC2022).
I believe Union SG are owned by the same people who own Brighton in the Premier League. I wonder if they will invest in the stadium in the future now that they are an established top flight team?
They are planning to build a new one somewhere else in the city. with an emphasys on 'planning' because building stadiums in Belgium is considered 'quasi'-impossible.
I never understood why American Football hasn’t adopted the roofing for teams to keep fans sheltered and install heaters on the roofing for the cold weather.
Part of it comes from the culture, especially in college football, that values tradition, which includes being so traditionally manly tough that poor conditions are welcomed. Too cool to be cold.
Beerschot apparently means Scotish Bears. Uhmmmm ok. ⚽️ teams have some of the weirdest names. That & fans sometimes give nicknames which have nothing to do with the team/club or area it's in
I have been subscribed to this channel for so long and only now i noticed this political slogan at the top. Dude, you're very good at stadiums, but let me give you a tip - stay away from things you don't know at all.
But the worst teams have way worse stadiums in poland then in belgium. Except for eupen union and westerlo every team has 9300 or more seats. While in Poland u have like 4 teams with only around 5000 seats
@@joeltiemens9015 you're crazy! see the stadiums of the Polish league! we have a total of 14 new stadiums, including 4 over 40,000 thousand, 3 over 30,000, 4 over 20,000, plus the national one in Warsaw 58,000 and the Olympic in Chorzów 63,000 thousand seats
