What a beautiful documentary made about the visit of the State of the King and Queen of Belgium to Denmark. In this documentary we were able to see different representatives of two European Monarchies, the Belgian Monarchy and the Danish Monarchy, all of them without exception , dressed very elegantly, in a posture suitable for representatives of the respective countries, and at the same time with the beauty of elegance, simplicity and friendliness proper of Modern Monarchies , but respecting the traditions and adequate protocols. Very pleasant to see and a good example of impeccable behavior of two Moderns Monarchies , but with the necessary respect and authority.

Yes, there was indeed one "succesfull" terrorattack at "Krudttønden" and the jewish synagoge 3 years ago where 2 people were gunned down - and numerous "unsuccessful" ones, that were stopped by luck, security, tips from CIA or germany. And the threat is still there.

It's just a traditional show of respect as part of the greeting. It's not particularly for the Belgian royals, it's just how it's done. Princes bow to kings an queens, princesses curtsy to kings and queens etc. I suspect it's not even something the Danish royals think about as it's just "how it's done". To them it's probably no more than a handshake to the rest of us as they've done it a million times. You can see similar differences between cultures as well. Japan is really big on bowing, on treating older folks like your "superiors" etc. but it's not even something they think about in their daily lives, it's just how they do things..

Chances are they'd speak English at such an event. The Danish royal family does speak French since the queen's husband (Prince Consort Henrik) who recently died was from France but chances are not many others at such a reception does, as French really isn't commonly spoken here. But of course they may speak French to each other if they're in private etc. if they prefer that. I have no idea how good the Belgian royal family are at various languages. English seemed to work just fine in the video though.

Probably because Belgium has 3 official languages: French, Dutch and German. Dutch, rather than French, is actually the most spoken language in Belgium. If the Queen spoke in French, and did not speak in Dutch also, that would be a diplomatic faux-pas. English is neutral and probably the best choice in this case.

Henrik "retired" because he thought, somehow (baffling) that he should be made King and he was upset that Frederik was asked by the court to take on roles Henrik felt he was entitled too. Embarrassing. Glad he's not at official engagements anymore. Big baby.

Lovely video. However as a broad comment I don't believe any human being should courtesy to another human being. I understand that it's a show of politeness in one's attitude and behaviour towards another, but when it comes to royalty it's more a case of an inferior having to bow to someone "more important" or of "royal" blood, despite the fact that their blood is exactly the same as mine. This is very evident in the case surrounding Kate Middleton who will one day be Queen. The new rules of Court make it clear that the former Kate Middleton, when she is not accompanied by Prince William, must curtsy to the “blood princesses”, the Queen, the Princess Royal, Princess Alexandra, and the daughters of the Duke of York, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. It's all so archaic and nonsensical.
To bow or curtsy isn't about you being inferior, it's about showing respect to "the boss". Just like a lot of people still treat their boss at work differently than their colleagues, the bow/curtsy is really just the archaic form of that. The king/emperor/prince/whatever was "the boss" so you had to show him respect. When a princess has to curtsy for a queen, it's simply a rank thing, not a blood thing. You can also see princes bowing to kings while they greet each other (two princes) with a hug. You can also think of it like the military. A captain or whatever isn't "inferior" to a general, a general couldn't do his job if he didn't have captains, colonels, lieutenants, privates etc. below him. He'd be helpless and pointless on his own. He just has a higher rank and thus a different job.

bronzerat012 you are right about the superiority thing however don't forget that it olden times the KiNG fought the battle and protected the village, thus his due hommage.
They don't live like that every day. Nowadays, even in the busiest monarchies, there are only two or three white-tie dinners like that per year, when they get to wear orders and tiaras, If you also add state visits to other countries, that number may rise to four or five per year, which is still not a lot. Right now, all gala events are on hold because of Covid, but I expect them to come back next year or so.
