The magnetic closure is generally added because the owner is having difficulty working the original clasp. Arthritis and/ or the loss of the partner who once helped clasp the necklace lead to magnetic retrofits for many jewelry pieces. I've done this for many women wishing to continue wearing their lifelong favorite necklaces and bracelets. Thank-you for your content!

I have lots of stuff from flea markets in Europe, boxes of old buttons and brooches, some of which I converted into new jewellery, and even used some in mosaics. Thanks so much for all the information, I intend to take time to study my stuff , think of the value, though I never thought of selling.

❤🎉😮Well I watch and paid close attention 2 three of your videos tonight. I actually learned a lot, because I would have given up looking for markings on things in antique shops and second-hand stores. However, I'm definitely going to pick me up a Jewelers loupe. I see that yours is eight times. Thank you for the teaching I will continue to watch you. I will be buying things to resell on the various platforms that we have to sell things on. By the way I live in northeastern Arizona. The community I live in has a lot of retired people and there are tons of estate sales that this kind of stuff can be picked up in. Again, thank you! I appreciate your teachings!❤🎉

A question maybe to save for a future Q&A video: how do you identify the gemstones in your pieces... for example the difference between a topaz and aquamarine? Especially white stones like topaz, zircon, sapphire, etc.? "Asking for a friend." ;)

Hi! I just found your channel; I’ve been selling jewelry and gemstones for 29 years; estate, new, designer, you name it. I’m enjoying going ‘treasure hunting’ with you, as I often do myself. I wanted to pass along that the magnetic clasp attached to the necklace, on its own (depending on metal weight) can sell anywhere from $40.00 to $90.00! Also, in a previous video, you had a freshwater pearl bracelet. Freshwater Pearl BRACELETS aren't individually knotted allowing full movement of the wrist without breaking the strand. One needs wiggle room on the wrist, but not the neck. I hope this was helpful. Happy Hunting, Michele

Possibly the best thing about selling vintage items is that the reseller doesn't have to worry quite so much about something being in style or out, especially with jewelry. Items may be in our out as far as their popularity (like anything that is sold originally as "collectible," usually isn't.) But not so much here. I've even sold goods to TV studios to use as background set pieces like vases or cups. You just never know!

I think the topaz/ Amber brooch was repaired with a new clasp because the silver is shinny and the brooch has a semi copper or aged gold frame. Also much older clasps have a little shorter pin.

On personal note what I like is things that I can wear and representations that correspond my outfit or feeling which is to me it’s elements nature or holidays so I like big shamrock brooches I like pins and brooches that have an element of nature trees stars and flowers 🌺 🌹 I do wear big pieces of jewelry and I like multi strand necklaces big bold ones I dress and basically a forties to 50 style most of the time. Then I’d like Victorian things with the goddess so that necklace is really great and an art nouveau and Art Deco.

FYI the single earring with the amethyst, moonstone and citrine: that style is commonly known as "Bali silver'. Not sure if it is all produced in Bali or it is a style mimicking an indigenous style. Typically used is large amounts of 'granulation' or the tiny balls of silver and geometric patterns.

Those stones are real. That's why those watches were/ are called ' jeweled' with a #, like 17 jewels,etc. That means there are 17 jewels. You have there sapphire ruby, and emerald. From the clarity of them they are good quality, Not treated,of course. You have a prize. I would contact a couple auction houses and let them have a go at auctioning it off. I would not be surprised if u got a couple thousands of dollars for it. Who knows how much exactly? A lot I think! And you can send a pic to Antique Roadshow, who will take your piece to auction for you. Also, Kovell Antiques gives ballpark appraisals when you send a picture.

I would still love a way to identify the stones in jewelry. I've tried google lens and compared the pictures to pieces and it doesn't work. I bought a couple of pieces at a "garage" sale because i thought they were opals but that was never confirmed. I sold them for the silver and 14k gold by the weight for a huge profit but i still feel bad because i loved the stones!
@redpiano1
@redpiano1 Год назад
I know you prefer to leave silver pieces in an "as found" condition whenever possible. Could you speak some time to how you polish silver? I agree that I don't want to OVER-clean a silver piece and ruin the patina in the carved/sculpted areas. If you make the piece "100%" clean, then it loses the depth (the patina) in the carved areas. I prefer using a silver foam type product because it doesn't leave any residue in the cracks and crevices. Or if it's just a minor, touch-up type cleaning, I invest in what's called a "Sunshine Cloth" (I'm not sure if that's a brand name) that cleans off the surface tarnish without scratching the piece (a dry process - just rub the silver.) When the cloth gets completely black from all the tarnish, throw it away and get another one (don't wash them!)
