This rare Swedish version of Bella Ciao focuses on international solidarity between workers all over the world and the people fighting for their freedom and independence in places like Vietnam.
Lately, Bella Ciao has exploded in popularity because of the show Casa de Papel or Money Heist. But even long before that it was the most famous example of Italian partisan music and had versions in many different languages. This version doesn't have the original lyrics about Italian partisans, instead it has been rewritten with new lyrics on the same melody.
This rarer version of Bella Ciao was recorded by the Swedish revolutionary communist band Knutna Nävar (Clenched Fists) and released on their album De svarta listornas folk in 1973. It's a great example of Swedish socialist music, or "progg", from this time.
I will continue to translate and upload the best Swedish socialist and communist music from the 1960s and 1970s, including anti-capitalist songs and songs about Vietnam - subscribe to not miss any in the future!
