@@ItsBoltify not really. kids can think teens are ugly, teens can think teens are ugly, adults can think teens are ugly. it’s been like that since.. well, since we’ve been on this planet pretty much

i thought she was an ugly kid since GoT lol and yeah people can say kids look cute/handsome all the time but suddenly when they say they’re ugly its a big deal ?
Nonsense. She was ok for this roll. Amazing for the role just shows you haven't played the game. If there was a singular perfect person for this role it would have been Ellen Page from the Juno years. The show was not that good, It was probably the best video game adaptation ever for a show, but there's not much competition there. The show was a 6/10
I would give it more than a 6 out of 10. It is not a masterpiece, obviously, but a 7.5 around 8 yes. It has its interesting themes, many taken from the game and others original to the series And honestly, I feel like the adaptation of the second game is going to be much better The second game in TV show format can give the creators much more play than the first @@briansearle6868
People saying she's too ugly to play the role of a TEENAGER should be put on some kind of list, she played the role extremely well and will continue to do so.
Agreed. When the trailer first came out, people on twitter were literally saying “why would they hire a girl who looks like she has down syndrome for the lead role, I don’t care if she was popular on Game of Thrones, I’m not watching this crap”. What tf is wrong with people?!?
Totally. I called out someone on the last of us 2 subreddit for wanting an Ellie they can fap to and I got banned lol. No regrets. That individual sent me a bunch of pictures of hyper sexualized young actors who they thought would be better choices. It was obvious.
Idk where anyone said “too ugly”, more like looks not even 5% like Ellie. Pedro pascal also doesn’t look like Joel, not as drastically different looking
Whoever is upset that a character that’s a minor is not attractive has some serious problems. Edit: To everyone shifting this to Bella the actor being an adult is missing the point. Ellie is a 14 year old character. If the attractiveness of a 14 year old character is an important trait to you then you have issues.
Harsh world. It's the inside that counts most. A lesson people learn the hard way when being friends or dating an attractive person who is rotten to their core.
i haven’t read one comment saying she isn’t hot enough, stop trying to twist the narrative. you know people call kids cute or handsome all the time so why is it suddenly a big deal to call them ugly ?
@@Hypno_BPM you’re oblivious if you think she wasn’t receiving hate. I remember males saying she looked like she had downs or some other disgusting jokes about her appearance.
I hope so too. Her performance and portrayal in Thrones is what made House Mormont my favorite House and Lady Lyanna one of my favorite characters of the whole show. She's a ridiculously talented performer and also did an amazing job in The Last Of Us.
I honestly think she’s so cute and perfect for the role. No one’s on Pedro for not looking identical to the video game version of Joel. Probs cuz the weirdos attracted to teens don’t care what he looks like. Ellie was a child, that was a huge point of the original game too.
Yes. Plus the original game fans are all gamers. Some of the nastiest, most sexist and creepy men on the planet belong to the gamer community. Not surprised, just disappointed.
@@thaloblue yes! As a women who enjoys gaming I’ve really experienced this sadly, to the point I’ll never do voice chat/ usually play male characters. It’s really disappointing since gaming should have no gender. Especially when these dudes are soooo thirsty for female attention.
Pedro Pascal NAILED the role, he looks pretty much alike Joel and his acting is on cue… Now Bella (sorry not sorry) doesn’t look like the character AT ALL, her behavior ain’t like the one in the video game, and her facial characteristics are just bizarre looking… She is a weird looking lady.
“she doesn’t look anything like ellie!” these folks seem to forget that they changed the appearance for joel, tommy, sarah, and maria in the show altogether. 😂
@@whitewolf8644 Ellie was definitely modeled after Elliot Page (pre-tran) to the extent that she/he sued over it. That's why in #2 they changed her looks enough to not look like Elliot Page. I think Naughty Dog did it as a ploy to get it converted to a movie.
People didn't want her to be "more attractive", this is some sneaky leftwing tactic of trying to implode an argument by just labeling it in a nasty way. Saying she's too ugly to play a character is fine. Ellie is a very standard looking white girl, the baseline, nothing weird about her appearance in any way. Bella Ramsay is not a monster, but the genuine gut-reaction is that she has some kind of chromosomal condition. There is maybe only one decent casting choice in the entire show, Marlene. Everyone else is either purposely race-swapped for political brownie points, or just arbitrarily different looking. Bella falls into a niche category however, since it's HBO nepotism AND rainbow politics. Let's just say she's one of the people who doesn't understand grammar, and a legal adult who they wanted to speedrun into doing gay things on camera.
It’s crazy how people forget she’s a child, and even more, she’s an actual person. And could just tear her down for doing what she was CHOSEN to do. It’s crazy.
@@or3029 She didn’t handle it “well enough”, she literally became an addict (addicted to reading negative messages about her looks/ body) and it had such an impact on her self image that she doesn’t want to be a girl anymore and thinks she is ‘non binary’. That’s not “well enough”.
i didn't enjoy her performance. Didn't enjoy the acting as she did not have the emotional depth of the original character, in my eyes. The game touched me emotionally and the series was lacking, in my opinion.
She doesnt look like the original character. Not ugly but definitely not the write fit from a looks perspective. The hate towards her though was messed up. I thought she did a really good job acting wise really had me into the story.
She's playing the part perfectly. If people are upset because they prefer teen eye candy, that's messed up. Her personality on the show is awesome. Edit: I started a war in the comment section. Oh my
Nah I just prefer they stick to the plot of the gamewithout randomly injecting political agendas. Especially dedicating an entire freaking episode to it.
@Misael Fraga I'm assuming you're referring to the gay couple? I could have done without the steamy gay sex scenes but I'm sure the gays loved it. Can't please em all
She was (at best) passable in a show that only has one season and is worse than the game it adapted in every single way. It wasn't good acting, or at least not faithful to the character.
Not just mean, fucking creepy and PEDOPHILIC that a storm gets thrown up over whether Bella playing a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL in the appcalypse is “attractive enough”. Turns out we have more Davids in the world than you’d think…
@volklied6160 if you think most fans of the last of us are young teenagers, then think again. That is not the target audience, adhd riddled dumb teenagers do not go in for slow burn character dramas. And you best believe that a lot of politically minded (right wing) adults obsess over actresses being attractive when it comes to media. You're living in a cave, my friend.... step out and see how bad it is for real.

@@kevinescobar370 I get that. Truthfully that can be said about every public figure. The thing that confuses me is comparing a 19 year old child being bullied for the way she looks, with a grown woman who called the attention to herself by making her own destructive choices. The two situations are not comparable imo. That's why I was asking, maybe I missed something. That being said, I don't believe in bullying anyone regardless of reason.
But that’s her in Unbelievable 2019 (where she’s playing a young adult) she doesn’t pass as a 14yo today, just like Maise Williams. Bella got the part because they earned the part and fit the role best. Dream casting and lamenting about what could have been only hurts them.
I won’t lie, when I first saw Bella playing Ellie in trailers for the show I was asking myself, did they even try to find an actress that was approximately close? But in the end, I fell in love with Pedro’s Joel and Bella’s Ellie, just like the game made me do. Bella’s acting was flawless and anyone getting stitched up on her appearance can get 🦆ed
@@antithoughtpolice7497 disagree. She was great. The show was great. The game was great. The stories in both were great. Can’t wait for season two. That game was great too!
@@antithoughtpolice7497 This would normally sound patronizing except that I don’t know you so I’ll start with the basic question, did you play the game? If so, were you disappointed with the game in any way? If not, we’re you disappointed with the creative licenses taken? I only ask because the parts that most closely tied in with the game were executed flawlessly in my opinion. Only part that didn’t deliver was the exit from the hospital - but I won’t spoil that for people who are about to start their maiden voyage tonight with the PC release.
@@Malysari She doesn't act like a kid though, they act like she's a an adult with enough experience in the apocalypse to know what she's doing, from the get go. Ellie's supposed to be a kid growing up, and the show is missing that KEY element. But, again, it's not Bella's fault. I don't like or agree with her view points, but you can't act your way out of being written as a Mary Sue. Daisy Ridley couldn't, and her acting in her audition was brilliant as can be in her audition. But everyone hates Rey for being a Mary Sue.
Not to mention, Bella's character in the Last of Us, lives in a post-apocalyptic world where there aren't luxuries like makeup, electricity, hair curlers.... Honestly, that's just what humans look like without all the luxuries of modern society.
@@onedaybecca you absolutely can, you might want to google that Heavy contouring is just a small part of it, and it totally changes your face. You honestly think celebrities look like that without makeup? Models dont look like "models" without makeup. Instagram, social media... all of that is make up and filters. And that's not even including "special effects" that are being added to DAILY makeup by average people. Look at the trends in makeup in Asian culture among young ladies. And tell me they look exactly the same without make up on. Look at any Drag Queen and tell me you would recognize that person without all that hair and makeup and costume. Some people use make up properly to enhance their features, and they look the same with/without makeup. 90% of people in the spotlight do NOT look the same without makeup on. They look like normal, average people.
That’s messed up man she’s not an ugly kid and the fact that ANYONE thinks that they can pass judgement on someone else because of their looks are F*CKING WORTHLESS!!!! Keep up the good work kid!!!
@@R0B690 But there’s a difference between having the “wrong hair/eye colour” compared to straight up calling someone ugly simply because they can. It’s unnecessarily cruel. Besides, the character is supposed to be a child so saying someone isn’t “pretty enough” to play that character is weird AF anyway.
Of course not but if you look nothing like the character then you shouldn't be cast for the role. Imagine casting a 5 foot tall Indian for the role of Thor? That would be ridiculous.
Actually my first thought when I saw who they cast was "wow she's so pretty". I really like the way she looks, it's refreshing to see especially nowadays where everyone looks fake and touched up, she just looks *real.*
i was thinking the same thing about how bella looked nothing like ellie and i thought she looks ugly and still kinda do, but she still can act and did really good in the show and kinda glad she got casted as ellie
no i wouldn't put it as ugly my problem with it is she doesn't really look like ellie they look significantly different and that just throws me off a bit
It's honestly disgusting how Bella was treated. I'm glad I finished high school before social media really started to pick up in the late 2000's/early 2010's. The amount of people (especially full-grown adults) who think it's funny or ok to be cruel to kids and teens is honestly mind-numbing. There's literally a 60-something pastor who lives in my county who spends his days online taunting people (many of whom are well under 21) he doesn't agree with and just being a complete a-hole to them for no reason. Back in the day, you could just stay off the internet for a while if you were getting targeted, but that's not really an option anymore. Everything's online now, so it's borderline impossible to avoid the internet constantly. And adolescents are super emotional and hormonal, so it's going to hit them much worse than it would hit a more rational adult. Also, who gets angry because a teenage character isn't attractive enough? That's a little "sus" as the kids say.
Funny thing is I think she's gorgeous too!!! Her personality shines so bright that her confidence makes her mesmerizing. That and I'd want her as my kid if I had the chance 😂
@volklied It sounds like a personal problem. Its weird, because me and many others (who have played the game) don't have a problem with a YOUNGER actor playing the role. I don't care what she looks like as long as she nails the role (Which she did) you type of fans can never be pleased I swear.
They weren’t saying she was attractive enough She just didn’t look like the character in the game. So yes think the other actor would have fit the role better. but poeple can’t have everything they want and I think she still did an amazing job in this role and I hope she keeps doing it
She's mediocre and there's literally 8billion people to fit her role better. but because she got a GoT side character gig, she was privileged to be picked in this. where she looks NOTHING like ellie. real ellie is based on a real person "Ashley Johnson". look wiki for reference if you don't believe me.
@@SlevironAshley Johnson played as Ellies mom in the show. Did Maria look like how she did in the game? No, did she do Absoloutely amazing though? Fuck yes she did.
She's not actually a child, people. People can have opinions on how others look. It doesn't make them horrible people. Not everyone is a perfect snowflake
Did either of you watch the video? They were cast at age 16 meaning they were literally a child. Doesn’t make people snowflakes if they want to have compassion and you’re right that people can make those comments but that doesn’t protect them from other people’s comments about them being a dick to a child over appearances. Once you care less about other people’s appearance trust me, you’ll be happier. It just screams insecure or inappropriate to be commenting on a 16 year old’s attractiveness, especially since a lot of the critiques came from older men. But if you are really offended by this critique, I’d re-consider your resolve snowflake
She was 16-17 when they were filming. So when they were criticising her looks in the show, they were just quite literally objectifying a child. Also, I don't think people should be bullied for their looks period. Celebrity or not. But it gets worse for such a young person going through these shits from who hardly know how to look after themselves.
Best take ive seen. Shes a great actress but i just wish all the people calling her “beautiful” and “normal looking” would get their eyes checked. Like we can admit she looks strange while simultaneously complimenting her acting ability.
She’s supposed to portray a 14y.o. Whichever casting director or person said that they were “too ugly” needs to have their internet search history checked because wtf? She’s supposed to be portraying a teenager in the apocalypse! She shouldn’t be looking like she just came out of Kim Kardashians plastic surgeons office. She did amazing and really made Ellie believable for the audience that haven’t played the game.
I'll say she absolutely nailed the role, perfectly conveyed a sense of just "ellie" charisma, but it's not that she "wasn't attractive" enough as people say ellie is 14-15 in the show that's just weird for people to say that, but, she loosely resembles ellie in looks. It's way too far to flame a normal teen for being "ugly" just because they don't perfectly resemble their roles in game appearance. That was a nearly impossible standard anyway, Bella Ramsey is a very talented actress and deserves utmost credit for her performance,
Bella is a legend for her portrayal of Ellie. She portrayed her with pure respect to the source material, and I am grateful that she was the one to play her. The legacy of Ellie’s character presents incredibly massive shoes to fill, so I have nothing but the utmost love and appreciation for her work on The Last of Us.
People complain and lose it when celebrities have work done, but then you have natural actors/actresses with no work and proceed to bully them... you literally can't win
Bella Ramsay is the right girl for the job. I knew the producers was going for Maisie Williams but ageism got in the role. So I thought of Bella Ramsay for the role and she's fantastic. People are just miserable when don't get their way. She's perfect for the role and Bella should ignore the haters
I understand people saying Bella maybe wasn’t the best fit looks-wise for playing Ellie (and Kaitlyn Denver may have been a much better choice in that respect) but calling a kid ugly is taking it way too far! She did a fab job with the acting in the show whether she looked accurate or not 🤷♀️ She’s certainly improved as an actor since her GOT days
@@tiaralcu season 1 was filmed between July 2021 and June 2022 so she was 17 for the first couple of months of filming and 18 for the rest of it. That means people were judging a teenagers looks on screen 17 or 18 is not exactly ‘a kid’ but it’s still far too young for people to be commenting nastily on her looks the way they were 🤷♀️
I honestly think it’s ridiculous how people feel entitled to comment on this girls beauty, because she truly is beautiful, and she’s an amazing actor, and they just get upset because it’s not the person they wanted.
Bella Ramsey made the last of us series legendary! She's so fu**ing talented. She may not look like Ellie from the game but daaaamn she nailed it. Bella ❤
As someone younger than her, I think Bella Ramsey is the most beautiful and attractive person I've ever seen. Before the Last Of Us , I knew her from playing Mildred in "The Worst Witch" and I absolutely loved the show mainly because of Bella. I stopped watching when they cast someone else (although I'm sure they did an amazing job). Seeing that one actor from my childhood resurface and be a part of such a cool show is absolutely astounding!
Although I'll probably never use this information in my day-2-day life, watching these gives me some much-needed enjoyment with informative stuff about our culture. Thanks!
Idk about yall stupid brauty standards. But for me bella is freaking cutest. Her face is so unique and refreshing. Everytime i look at her i feel like looking at a baby doll. Her acting and voice and personality. Litterly everything about her is perfect. She made ellie more human and alive
Bella Ramsey is absolutely beautiful. The goons saying she wasn't "attractive enough" must have very narrow minds with a limited, dull concept of attractiveness and beauty. Besides, it seems to me that it shouldn't be a major factor in casting the role of a person so young. I hope she has a lot of love and support from friends and family and that all the idiotic social media balderdash doesn't go to her head.
I wasn't not fond of her casting because she's not attractive enough. I was not fond of her casting because she doesn't look even a little bit like Ellie. I don't see how that's a problem when judging an adaptation. I also wonder how many people being demonized in the comments thought the same, only to get their words twisted and condemned for pedophiles. That being said, upon watching the show, I do think Bella did a good job playing Ellie.
I know this is an old ass comment, but didn’t Ellie do that in the last of us game? Now I could be wrong because it’s been a few years since I’ve played it, but I think I remember her doing stuff like that.
It’s shit like this, especially on Reddit that make me think people only pretend to hate pedophiles but secretly are one. I didn’t know a kid actor for a kid role had to be “attractive enough”. I had just seen a Reddit post the other day about the walking dead game asking why a character who is a minor isn’t “hot” enough. Bella Ramsey was one of my favorites in GoT and I think she played Ellie better than anyone could have played her. In fact her performance feels more true to the character than the original. I know that won’t be a popular opinion but seriously she’s insanely talented
On what point of your moral superiority journey did you decide that lying and/or ignorance was a good weapon to have in your arsenal?? If you want to make a damn point, why include falsehoods as well? Why can't you stick to the facts and have respect for the actual truth and argue against the actual point?? "I didn't know a kid actor for a kid role had to be attractive enough"- you said... Bella Ramsey is 20. She is not and was not a kid at the time of making this. Why not argue the point, instead of claiming unfounded moral superiority? And when people say attractive they don't mean sexually you ass. They mean a person that has good features... Which, believe it or not is something that children have as well. And not to mention that family and parents can see a child and be able to tell if he/her will grow to be handsome/beautiful based off of their facial structure. But most importantly the people complain not that Ellie isn't "pretty" but because she has a WEIRD face... Which she does. And claiming otherwise is just another moral bonus you want to give yourself, yet unfounded in reality. Ugly people exist, weird looking people exist and good looking people exist. The human brain CAN make these distinctions and yes... Teenagers are human too and have these signs of their future looks written on their faces!!! And you people and your arguments fall very short when you realise that the face of a person changes VERY LITTLE between 13 and 18 years old, especially if they maintain the same weight and hair. And every age can tell if a young adult or teen is or isn't attractive based off common sense and vision... Or are you part of the people that PRETEND that a 17 year old and 11 months is not pretty cuz we can't tell and an 18 year old and 1 day is pretty cuz she is of age? Is that how our eyes work?
Idk why people have such an issue with unique features, I think they’re really pretty and have a mystical air to them. Elf vibes. People just don’t understand ethereal beauty.
I don’t hate her acting, but regardless the show was casted poorly, rushed, and the producers were more focused on making money than making a good show.
They are an amazing actress and I'm living for them as Ellie, they play that character BRILLIANTLY. The haters? Bet they don't even have half their bank account let alone their awesome personality. What losers
I have nothing to say about how attractive she is or isn’t, I feel that’s irrelevant. She just doesn’t look like Ellie, which is a bummer but that doesn’t take away from her acting skills. I enjoyed watching the show nonetheless.
I swear people chose the strangest things to be upset about. Bella is tremendously talented, age appropriate, and overall a great choice for the cast. Yes, sometimes the actor's look can be distracting, but in this case she's just suppose to play a random girl, so what's the problem?!?!
@@hsd287 as in she's not supposed to look like a model. She's not a superhero, she simply is trying her best to do what's right). Hence why I believe Bella's looks are less important than her abilities to convey emotion and make the audience contact with Ellie and feel for her
Here is where it all starts folks. Telling a teenager or anyone in general that he or she is not attractive enough is disgusting and hateful. Human beings have made this world a living hell.
@@legandsruleforever I agree. I'm fourteen as is Ellie in part 1, and she is attractive in the game but in the show Bella looks nothing like her. And she's really bad at acting.

Ngl that first photo makes her look like a model in a Victorian painting. She’s beautiful, even if people don’t believe that she fits societies’s standards of beauty.
It's not important how she looks, acting is ultimately not about looks but someone's charisma and truthfulness within a performance. Shes talented and for that alone she deserves to be recognized.
