Belle Glade has a lot of history. Years ago, many Haitians, Cubans, and Jamaicans would be sent over during the sugar cane harvest season to help with the harvest. They would literally make lines miles long and walk down the fields chopping cane. Some of those people ended up staying. The sugar cane fields were the whole economy of belle glade. Now all those thousands of jobs were replaced by machinery, so the people and families who came were left without work, leading Belle Glade to be as poor as it is now. Most of the people who work for the sugar mills now (including myself) come from West Palm. One thing about Belle Glade, if you know where to go, you can get some amazing food. Also fun fact, I believe Belle Glade/Pahokee still puts out more nfl players than any other town in the world. There is a lot of culture out there once you get to know the place.
My cousin came from Barbados in the early days to cut cane. He would like to visit after soo many years to see what the place looks like now. Any suggestions of areas to visit?
Belle Glade reminds me of certain Caribbean islands, for one, the "workers" section of St. Martin with those multi level apartments with outdoor balconies, a courtyard, and a few empty lots with gardens. 👍
Dade is probably the most violent county in Florida. I go to Belle Glades every now and then for work but man I was shocked the first time I went there. They got a couple small areas that's really poor and run down and it does look fkd up fr. Like any hood you gotta be careful
@@PullinWarCrimes I won't fight you on it. Too lazy to do my research but I know West Palm always been sketchy as hell. Violence come in all shades of skin over there lol
Definitely not Broward, the ghettos there are not that tough except Sistrunk and Lauderdale Lakes/Lauderhill. I would say Dade/Palm Beach are toughest, actually one of the worse places I went though was Florida City/Homestead on the way to the keys, that was ROUGH!
@@koffee9228 Not really because the areas in PBC are way worse, I’ve lived in South Florida my whole life. Belle Glade, WPB, Riveria, Pahokee are way scarier.
I thought I saw the worst in Florida City. But I took a stroll through the country roads today and drove through Belle Glade and I was taken aback. I’ve never seen such poverty in the US. Looked like the slums from when I went to Honduras.
Have you been to Ider, AL? If so what are your thoughts about the NE part of Alabama? Enjoy watching your videos, we lived in Largo, FL few years enjoyed the area but had to return back to Ohio.
fun fact about Haiti it used to be one of the worlds biggest rice, Banana, tobacco, and sugar producers till Americans stopped other countries from doing trade with them in the 1950s
Sounds about right. US stops energy producing on their own soil because of the environment, but then has no problems producing oil in some Arab country. Same with manufacturing. Stopped most manufacturing because of the environment, but then set up shop in Mexico and China. It's all BS!
I’m born and raised in Belle Glad and South Bay. It’s really not a bad hood, but it’s different than when I was a kid. A lot of us have left home. The big thing about home was football team, sugar cane and used have good food spots 🤗💕….
@@floridaroadways it’s not as bad as big cities hoods. The sad part for me is it’s a small place and most people knows each other ( kids ), but they still choose to hurt each without caring and that’s what been killing my personal spirit about home. I don’t know a whole lot of people there now, but the ones I do I and I miss the fun we used to have. People are not friendly anymore no matter where you go….
Wow some of them hood areas look like some in Santurce and Barrio Obrero districts in San Juan, sí we have Haitianos here too like their woodwork arts and crafts they sell here 👍🏾
Y'all got me hungry talking about food, lol. If you need some good recommendations for food in WPB, I got you... Cuban - Havana is good, Don Ramon is better. Jamaican - Curly's takeout is fantastic! Puerto Rican - Isla Del Coqui and La Cosinita Latina are both good. Mexican - Tacos Al Carbon is decently priced but my girl prefers paying just a little more downtown at Rivales (still cheaper than Rocco's) Breakfast - Clary's Corner is a little hidden hole in the wall dive in Lake Worth with bomb ass breakfast. Pete's Place, Keke's, and Deli Inn are all good choices too though. Subs - I like Totally Awesome Subs the best but John Smith Subs is a little cheaper. Notable Mention - Benny's On The Beach a little overpriced but got a good atmosphere being right on the Lake Worth Beach
Hey was watching a good 2 hour plus documentary on RU-vid about Hurricane Andrew which also went through were my relatives are in Louisiana Were you living in South Florida in 1992 during Hurricane Andrew which went right through Homestead?
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS here is the link to the 2 plus hour very well done video.thanks to Traveling Robert ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6FixacAXlo.html
It's not worse at all. They just treat you like you treat them. I'm a white girl that went there to pick up a horse trailer and I got lost. I pulled over and asked some gentlemen standing on the corner for directions and they kindly gave them to me. No cussing, no dissing. Very polite and full of information.
@@spirittammyk Bingo I just walk all of NW and SW BElle Glade on a sewer project 2022-2023 . Everyone was polite and respectful. Anyway this video didn't go into any of the worst areas. Not even close
I was born n raised in belle glade there were alot of shit goin down it can get really bad there n it has changed alot ever since I move away from there I went to school the like Gove elementary n glade central high now it gotten a hell alot worse since then.
Yeah, I live down in Belglade late 70s early 80s and it’s not the same. They had sugar mills and packing houses and August through March was the season and thousands of people everywhere have some good memories from growing up there but it’s not what it used to be as I see in this videobeen 15 years since I’ve been there
OMG I am actually taking back about your comments of Belle Glade I live there when I was 18 in 1976 I am now 63 I'm actually watching a video as we speak of Palm Beach Florida but to hear you say pahokee and Belle Glade boy boy what sometimes down there but they said it's not a good place to live now I don't know but those areas was fun back then times have changed everywhere so who knows but anyway so happy to know someone else that knows about pahokee Belle Glade be blessed!!
When I was a sales rep in southeast Florida, Belle Glade was the only place from Sebastian to Hallandale Beach I wouldn't get out of the car to go the bathroom. Belle Glade is hood, but it also has that creepy rural feel.
@@nicholaslovett6248 You'd be safer in them hoods than some small rural town run by hillbillies. That's where you get abducted and turned into some stew.
@@floridaroadways me personally I wouldn’t recommend for you to move down here unless you have a stable job OR already have money! There is literally NOTHING here! It’s more of a retirement town for people who have travelled up and down the roads during the seasons! I was lucky enough to be born here so it doesn’t really affect me much!! But it’s PERFECT for wanting to learn anything about history!
@@willymaykit1482 I used to stay on oak street don’t confuse an auto correct with what it is but you right I only stayed a few months and it is poor as fuck but not like belle glades dudes getting blasted daily out there. I hope the spelling is up to par for your literate self
There are much worse areas of Belle Glade than shown here. This video didn't go to the worst areas. I've walked every street in NW and SW Belle Glade and everyone was friendly and respectful even though obviously often dirt poor.
Good video. Your drive in I see crooked signs and large churches. With so much money in poverty - its sad that the religious takers swoop in to collect the dollars.
Looks nothing like Cuba. Cuba is colorful and probably almost ever building is falling. I’d try to look up Cuba on RU-vid before you compare lol also Cuba isn’t dangerous. I’m Cuban born and have lived In palm beach county for 30 years. Cuba is absolutely nothing like Palm Beach County, Palm Beach County is full of crackheads people from up north that come to get clean from heroin. Cuba is definitely more destroyed because of the property, but don’t compare it to Palm Beach County.
1. I AM CUBAN, I WAS BORN IN CUBA SO I DONT NEED TO SEE A RU-vid VIDEO TO KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. CUBA IS EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS LAST TIME I WENT I SAW SOMEONE GET CHOPPED WITH A MACHETE, SOME TWO TRAGGIC ACCIDENTS THAT WOULD NOT HAPPEN HERE IN USA> nobody from Palm Beach moves to Cuba.. PLENTY OF CUBANS in Palm beach.
Aye bro, I’ve lived all across mercia including Palm Beach County, if your not rich then don’t live there. I live outside of Atlanta now, I would recommend one of the suburbs there, also a great job market in the city. I’m tryna move out though but I would still recommend atl
We have done several videos there even at night check those out. My oldest video was awesome thousands of people there and we walked around 😊 i think on this trip we were in a rush to get back to fort myers
