Belle Should Have Married Gaston In The Beauty And The Beast And Here's Why 

Gaston never took Belles feelings into consideration, he’s rude, arrogant, and a selfish bastard. He forcefully tried to marry Belle and the Beast never really forced Belle to marry him, he gave her a library and Belle gave herself up in place of her father, plus Maurice barged into the Beast’s castle and even let her roam the castle except for one room. I believe he wanted to welcome Belle to his castle by giving her a dinner so she feels more at home. The beast WAS an arrogant prince but now he changed his attitude and the way he presents himself

The problem with this is that Belle doesn't HAVE to choose. The question isn't "Who should Belle marry?" or "Who would Belle be happier with?", it's "Would Belle be happy with either of them?". It also throws away the beast's entire character arc.

The beast never knew how wrong he was until he met belle, of course the beast would be terribly selfish and keep secrets thinking everything revolves around him since he has been spoiled before, but the beast has changed after meeting belle. The beast has cooks and if belle wants to teach him, you know it would be adorable to watch, the beasts castle may allow belle's father to live with them. The castle isn't cursed anymore, so would the terrifying forest with man eating wolves still be there? Or would the wolves move on to a more comfortable area? Gaston judges belle and wants her looks, and yet the beast loves her for her. So who is REALLY the best one? True love or Forced love?

No, Belle should not have ended up with Gaston yes the beast keeps secrets, but that was at the begining, he evoles, learns to be more honest with Belle. Yes Gaston lives in the village while the beast lives in a castle, but mind you, Belle was not happy in the village, no one understood her, people mocked her, she preffered the castle were she made friends, and wasn't mocked, the beast had an entire library that he gave to her, much bigger than the one in the village and it's clear that Maurice would join Belle in the castle. Plus Belle was not meant for a small town life, she craved adventure, wich the beast can give her. with Gaston she would have to be a housewife. Yes Gaston is healthy, but once the prince is restored to his original form, he could go on adventures with Belle and could always eat healthy food. The wolves would disapear once the curse is broken and the snow would disapear as well Yes the beast got cursed, but c'mon Gaston went from being simply arrogant to straight up evil, The best would be human after the curse was broken, and had Gaston not died, he likely would have been cursed. We don't know if he wouldn't have refused an old beggar. The beast might not have been able to help Belle put together her bookshelf, but someone in the castle would have, Gaston wouldn't have wanted books in his house. yes Gaston was ready to settle down, but he wanted to marry Belle for purely selfish reasons, and the prince was ready after the curse was broken. Gaston imprisoned her and her father as well, he wa ready to throw Maurice into an asylum. Gaston was never in love with Belle, he just wanted her for her looks, the beast gradually falls in love with Belle. so most of your logic is flawed there and you overlook one detail, Belle loved the beast, who became kind and gentle, he respected her and was interested in her interests. Gaston simply wanted a wife and decided on Belle, he wanted her to be a submisive housewife

You also gotta remember that Beast wasn't as nice during the time cause he was just 11 and it was his birthday a few days after his parents death and was mourning when the old lady asked for him to let her stay so he was too mad and mourning so he didn't let her stay as it hurt him emotionally that he showed his repressed emotions in anger towards the old lady.

It doesn't matter how many redeeming qualities Gaston has. The point is she doesn't like him, she doesn't want to marry him. He doesn't like her either, and he doesn't listen to her. He is only concerned with appearances. The point of the library scene is that the beast has seen what she likes he cares who she is.

Some good points, but with the secretive thing the beast wasn’t allowed to tell Belle about the enchantment otherwise the spell wouldn’t break. Also with the imprisoning thing with Maurice to be fair Gaston pretty much did the same thing. And Gaston only cares for Belle’s beauty, not herself. And the beast has a reason to have anger issues. Also about Belle wanting to live in her town, actually she didn’t. She wanted to leave, and go on adventures like the princes and princesses in her books. And the castle has a way better library. Also with losing power, I don’t think that they would have minded losing power, as long as they had each other. I have more but I don’t feel like writing more😂

Gaston is a provider for the village, a healthy strong man who was trying to save Belle not only from the beast but from herself. Sure he’s a little arrogant but so is the beast, and he can change. Everyone loves Gaston for a reason. Personally, I’m a neo-Gastonist, so I’m glad to see the roots of the movement even before the epic Doyle video, and I hope we continue to grow.

One thing this video got wrong is the village didn't know the castle and it's inhabitants existed not because it was a figment of Belle's imagination, rather it was forgotten about because that was a part of the spell. The spell made the villagers forget about the castle and everyone in it.

Many interesting points and perspectives on why Belle should have married Gaston. I still think the Beast loved Belle not just for her beauty, but for who she truly was. That's why when she helped him after the wolves attacked, he gave her the library because it was something he knew she would love. Gaston on the other hand just wanted her as a trophy wife and would have only loved her for her looks. Did the Beast and Gaston have bad qualities at the start? Of course, but the Beast saw his faults and changed. It's just one of the reasons why I love this movie so much and why it's my favorite Disney movie of all time😊

Yes, the beast gave Belle the ultimatum of starving if she wouldn’t eat dinner with him - but she still had a choice. Gaston staged a wedding before he’d even asked Belle to marry him; he wasn’t going to give her a choice, he assumed her answer would be yes. The beast may be a lazy, spoiled prince but he was prepared to offer Belle a much more exciting life, which is what she really wanted. Gaston just wanted her to be a mother and housewife waiting on him hand and foot. Gaston was a chauvinist pig who showed no signs of ever changing; the beast was a spoiled brat who was humbled and learned to be a better person. Belle would have been miserable with Gaston.

The whole point of the story was to look beyond outward appearance. Gaston was good looking, but could never think of anyone else but himself. The beast was a monster on the outside, but he was selfless enough to let Belle go. He may have been spoiled, but the Enchantress clearly saw that he was a good soul to allow him an out. With the secrets, the beast had only just met Belle and already had trust issues. Gaston was used to getting what he wanted so had no reason to hide things. Also, once he actually got Belle and had her for a time, it's highly unlikely that he would have remained faithful to her. For him, it's about the hunt. When Belle was gone for days, Gaston barely did anything. She wasn't even gone an hour when the beast went after her and protected her, even after their fight.

I think you mean, Beast is better looking than Gaston--at least before the curse breaks. I gave this video a shot, but I'm not convinced. Supposedly the Beast was heartless, which is why he was cursed. At least in the animated version, he seems to have changed some even at the beginning. You can see the regret in his eyes when Belle says he didn't let her say goodbye to her father. He tries to make her comfortable, but his temper now comes from his insecurity. Locking up Maurice was horribly wrong, but he did so because of his insecurity about being a beast. He seems to respect his servants even at the beginning of the movie, and they clearly love him and don't resent him. They have helped him change even before Belle arrives, but it's his hope that Belle could care about him that gets him to shed the insecurity and the anger that goes with it, and he learns what it means to be selfless instead of selfish. Gaston had no character arc. The Beast did.

If you go back to the origin of this story of Beauty and the Beast you would know that a young woman named Lady Catherine through an arrange marriage was to marry a man named Petrus Gonsalvus without seeing him or knowing who he was prior to their marriage. Petrus who happened to suffer from a condition called Hypertrichosis (Excessive hair growth anywhere on the body). Lady Catherine and Petrus Gonsalvus we’re to be married because a Catherine de Medici wanted to see if Petrus would have children with the same Hypertrichosis condition so she arranged the marriage between Petrus and the other Lady Catherine. Well it turned out that Lady Catherine grew to love Petrus and they did have seven kids together. So as far as happy ever afters go I guess you can say it all worked out in this case.

Maybe this is all a story that Belle created because she was tired of reading the same books over and over again. She’s pretty smart and creative, so I think it’s in the realm of possibility. The story would of course have her in it, and it told the story of how she wanted more in her life, and how she changed it all, and had her happily ever after with the love of her life, the beast. That would explain why the story she was reading in the beginning is similar to HER story. It was her favorite, and she wanted to create a story that resembled her favorite. In Gaston and the villagers’ defense for attacking the Beast and his castle and Gaston trying to institutionalize Maurice, Gaston really didn’t know much about the Beast or that he wasn’t as dangerous as he had looked when he wasn’t agitated. To Gaston and the others, the Beast was this monster that seemed to have been keeping Belle prisoner for months and her father, who was already deemed by everyone in town to be insane to begin with, kept going on about some “monster” who also held him prisoner until Belle offered to take his place and that she was in danger but he had no proof other than Belle being gone. I think anyone at that point without knowing the entire story would have thought Maurice had finally lost what little they thought he had left of his sanity and would try to put him in an insane asylum. And Belle didn’t really help matters when she showed everyone the Beast in the Mirror while he was emotionally upset that Belle was gone and he was afraid that she would never comeback which led them to think he was dangerous and might come to the village and attack them. To the villagers, the Beast really was a monster that needed to be stopped and of course they weren’t going to listen to Belle who was held prisoner by the Beast in their eyes and must be under some sort of spell if she talked about how he was really nice once you got to know him and when he was calm.

Interesting take. For the sake of History, perhaps Bell could have been safer to be a regular citizen. Then again, they could have still died just from being involved in the fight. She could have ended up a widow either way. Another thing to consider is the fact that since Bell had been a commener, couldn't she have been helpful in treating the citizens better and distributing some of the excess wealth to the people in town? On a different subject, do I remember that Gaston was going to put her father in an Insane Asylum, where as the Beast only wanted to have a prisoner. After the Father was let go from the Castle, he was free.

Let's face the facts, (ignoring the theory entirely because I don't buy it) Belle would not have been happy with the beast. The Beast may have been cruel at first locking her up and leaving her to starve, which he technically didn't considering he gave her an ultimatum. Or do you not remember Gaston wrongfully had Maurice locked up even though as the guy said "Maurice is harmless" but Gaston has him locked up simply to forcefully blackmail Belle into marrying him, then has HER locked up to in order to get her out of his way of killing the beast, he's more than just a conceited snob, he's actually cruel. And whereas the beast is cruel at first (all theories aside going off the movie alone) the beast actually changes. He does eventually learn his lesson and becomes kind and loving even to his castle staff. Beast is compatible and I do believe that even though he's a prince he can protect Belle,and either way the point of Disney princess stories is achieving true love no matter what the risks are. Beast is Belle's true love, and I think Gaston could have been cursed had the enchantress came knocking on his door instead. He's not a good dude and being strong and capable of protecting her and not being a revolution target he has no redeeming qualities. He's conceited and selfish, and he has no regards or care for what he has to do to others to get what he wants, including blackmail. The beast as far as we know would never black mail and even ends up releasing Belle to help her father, and he learns his lesson having falling in love and turned around. Gaston doesn't respect or love Belle he just wants her because she's beautiful. She's not a partner or a lover to him she's a trophy. Beast respects Belle and truly loves her, him setting her free proves it. He put her needs and wants before his which is more than Gaston has ever done, she was the deciding factor of fighting for his life! He was going to let Gaston kill him until he saw Belle had come back to him. This also shows that he loves her, because life didn't matter without her. Gaston knew that the beast had morales and mercy, because he decides to actually spare his life, then Gaston kills him anyways. The beast wouldn't pull a deceitful truck like that. That is actually cruel. He was willing to KILL to get what he wants at least Belle was held hostage in a jail or room even Maurice had a cell. Gaston was going to put them in an ASYLUM. despite what the man in the movie said, asylums are not a safe place, they wouldn't have been a safe protective spot to help them through their "issue" this was gastons way of forcing Belle into marrying him. Belle is way better off with Beast.

Belle should never have been with Gaston. Gaston never cared about Belle as a person. Gaston keeps going on about what he wants but never once asks Belle what she wanted. Gaston also dismisses Belle's love for books, made very obvious by how he treats the books Belle are holding/reading. Also, are you forgetting that Gaston tried sending her father off to a insane asylum to force Belle to marry him. Belle made it very clear that she doesn't want Gaston and he still tries forcing his will on her. Yes, great husband material there. How was Belle supposed to know that the royality's would be killed. You even said in a couple of years, so what Belle is now supposed to be able see the future. And marrying someone just because you would be more likely to live is a horrible reason to marry someone. The reason why I think Belle and Beast are great for each other is because they are both outsiders. As you stated, Belle is an outsider in her town but she still has her father who she knows loves her, thus making it easier for her to be kind. Beast however is a outcast and he doesn't have anyone. His servants are part of his hired staff. It's hard to know if someone truly cares about you when you're paying their wages. Also Beast is a best because he has no human interaction, and I think he was in a vicious cycle of depression. He was depressed because of how he looked, thinking no could love him because of it and then feeling even more depressed because he didn't even have friends. Think about, in the movie it states he never leaves his castle because of his beastly looks. Meaning he either had friends that he knew only liked him because he was the prince or he had no friends. That can really mess with anyone. Beasts starts turning around and becoming more human when he realized that someone liked him for who he is, not because he was the prince. The prisoner thing wasn't actually that odd to me. He is a prince and I'm sure he was trained about how to rule. Now each royalty can decide how they want to rule but I'm would think all of them would agree that if you have a law, you must enforce that law. Maurice, unknowingly, was trespassing on the beast's home. Even in today's world, that would mean jail time. The beast putting Maurice in his dungeon didn't seem odd. And think, when the beast saw Belle willing to serve Maurice's sentence, he saw someone with a very loving heart. I don't think the beast kept Belle because he wanted to make Belle love him, I think he wanted a friend. The beast is so desperate for love(I mean in the friendship kind) and knowing that person genuinely cared about him, he went overboard trying to gain that friendship. And let's also be honest, no one is perfect. We all have things to work, and Beast shows he is improving himself. He does better about controlling his temper, he works on his manners, etc. No Beast wasn't perfect at first, but he did work on improving himself, Gaston never tries to do anything to better himself. In fact he makes Lefou sing about how perfect he is to reinforce his own self image. I also think it's terrifying how he gets the entire town riled up and ready to kill the beast, just because the beast, in his mind, stands between himself and Belle. Gaston, even though Belle has shown and said she will not be with Gaston, thinks that with the beast out of the way that he can then marry Belle

I do have to say that though I'm quite interested concerning the facts of history during that supposed time placement that the whole process of treatment of either men were (for the most part) taken out of context. Gaston didn't take people into consideration except himself and he practically considered Belle a friend with benefits (though more in a married way). Whereas, the Beast was mean, but only at first. You have to consider that he was cursed as a teenager who was spoiled and obviously didn't have much discipline or guidance, so of course being cursed would make him angry and quite possibly bitter. Therefore, with Belle the Beast had a learning process of how to cherish the good things (such as Belle for example) and to look on the brightness rather than the darkness and selfish wants.

I personally think Belle should've married Gaston for a couple of reasons, my opinion. 1:] Belle developed Stockholm Syndrome after her father and her being taken captive. 2:] He's a hunter, went to war, is rather patient, is smarter than you think, [ you don't have to be nose-deep in a book all the time to be smart, not a lot of people knew how to read at that time,] doesn't have anger issues, is thoughtful [Belle mentioned her hating her poor and provincial life then Gaston set up a whole wedding by himself and saying "I'm here to make all your dreams come true," considering Gaston was rich, but also later on he still goes on even after being rejected to care for Belle, her father, and the rest of the town by trying to exterminate the problem. 3:] Lastly, the Beast to me could've been a nightcrawler that noticed Belle was starting to like him, so he took advantage of that to get her to fall in him just to have the spell broken, and stuck with her so if he were to ditch her out of selfishness he knows he would get placed back under the spell. That's just me anyway.

Gaston is an example of why confidence is a huge turn off for some women, like myself. Some of us prefer a man who can show humility and show their flaws and weaknesses. Confidence as well as it’s close cousins of arrogance, positivity, and self-esteem are immature and ultimately obnoxious.

Belle fell in love with a literal monster, if that isn't sickening I don't know what is. Gaston offered her a good life, but Belle chose an animal over the entire village. She literally caused the death of their hero. She molded the beasts character and thats why she stuck with him, whereas she couldn't change Gaston. It just shows what kind of person she is. A few years later the French revolution happened she was probably executed.

Gaston straight up welcomed himself into Belle's home, pretty much harassed her, and tried to have her thrown in an asylum just because she didn't reciprocate his feelings. He was rude, didn't care about Belle, and considering what he's like, most likely would've forced himself on her. Not to mention he's a grown man imagine having kids (meaning doing the deed) with a 17 year old.🤨

There is no way Belle should have ended up with Gaston. Gaston has no regards towards Belle’s feelings nor her love for books. Gaston is an arrogant, rude, selfish, sexist and violent dude. The people of the village where he lives are blind about the monster he really is. Also Belle was not happy in the village as the people mocked her and mistreated her mentally and psychologically.
