"Sediziose voci.." and "Casta Diva.." from Bellini's Norma, sung by Suzanne Murphy.....Vienna State Opera (I believe..)1987. Sorry about the poor sound quality...
This is actually in Munich on 29/7/85. Pollione was none other than Franco Bonisolli. Oroveso was sung by Robert Lloyd and Adalgisa was that gorgeous voiced Alicia Nafe who was shamefully ignored by the Record Co's. Musical director-Giuseppe Patane. The full performance can be got from the usual suppliers of opera that is in the public domain.
A lovely performance with a fine legato line and an air of moonlight about it. I rather wish she had made slightly more of the concluding phrase but I'd give a lot to experience a soprano of this calibre in the opera house today. Vivian Liff
DAWSON, This video, despite the volume being set a bit low (for enhancing available tonal qualities of a live-recording ~ also sounds like the mic was too far from her), reveals a voice of considerable POWER. Besides a rich "core" I hear a rich texture: the physical beauty of Suzanne Murphy's is obvious and it's a very thoughtful performance of the Casta Diva as well. ANDY
@figaro207 ... you know, I used to have a cassette of that Puritani ... but for the life of me I cannot find it again after all those years ... damn damn and damn
Can't be Vienna State Opera though. Murphy sang only Eletttra (Idomeneo) and Clytemnestre (Iphigénie en Aulide) there, and the State Opera didn't show Norma between 1980 and 2005.
