supermen26zg I remember that interview with Callas she was asked if she had a successor and she pause for a while and she said only Montserrat. This was after her retirement and that Davina need her craft very well and understood the human instrument.
I love Bellini, specially Norma and Puritani. The two operas are pure exemple of "bel canto" in the most classic way as possible. Caballè here is in a very magic moment never repeated again as in this cold night of Orange
As near to perfection as a person can be, in my opinion. I'm fascinated with this performance.. Caballe is just out of this world here. Gosh, she was on fire this night. Thank you for uploading this. x
I have listened or sampled the voices of probably over 3000 sopranos, (icluding well over 2 thousand on this site alone), icluding most of the ones who got recording contracts and become stars or even opera superstars, and thus far have yet to hear even one other voice as beautiful as ethereal or otherworldly sounding as Montserrat Caballe. Not even one. Not even one other voice. That is not to say that I don’t enjoy listening to many other sopranos, some roles like fast coloratura is just not right for Caballe’s voice type. And some roles are just to heavy for Caballe, but not so many of those as coloratura or light soubrette roles. I got probably list what I think are the greatest 20 or 30 soprano voices in history, and I think most opera fans would mostly agree with me. Thank you for your comment, it pleases me more than you will ever know, when I read or hear that other people get it too, that Caballe was the most beautiful voice in recorded or known history, and most likely in all of history on this planet, why because many can’t imagine a voice surpassing perfection, when she was her best her seemless legato, and unsurpassable breath control, and total tonal purity, absolute purity of gorgeous ethereal tone, with viritually no vibrato to her voice, and her nearly always incredible aristocratic phrasing sung with emotion and deep feeling, as if the emotions and feelings she expressed through her singing came from the very depths of her soul and maybe her inate goodness, and love of her family, country, and humanity. Her singing and artistry has been described somewhat like this before. I wish her videos and recordings could be introduced to many more millions of people enriching their lives and giving them many hours of listening pleasure and joy for many years to come.
@@MySensualWorld your comments were the most beautiful ones regarding the great voice and performance of Montserrat Caballe' as I have ever read!!! Nobody has summed it up better than you, Sir! You wrote it with feelings straight from your heart and with your superb knowledge of what defines greatness! Thank you very much for this! You were spot on!!! God bless you!
@@MySensualWorld Yes! I wish they would play her recordings in shopping malls, and wherever there are problems. People might initially object but once they get to know the music I truly believe that people would be nicer to each other. I don’t think you could listen to this beautiful music and go out and hit someone. (Which rap seems capable of encouraging people to do. Someone once told me that people who like discordant music do so because they are not at peace in themselves and it resonates with them.)
How is this for crazy - I couldn’t see who was singing but as she started to sing I thought “Wow, she has a voice as beautiful as Montserrat Caballe.” I admit I felt a little bit guilty so was delighted to see that it really was her (and that my ears are still working ok). Thank you for this. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing her sing.
Montserrat’s Norma is divine and unsurpassable. La Callas simply doesn’t hold a candle to her. Grossly overrated. Bash all you want, facts are still facts
