Grazie al nonno materno - grande frequentatore della Scala di Milano negli anni 50 e 60 - dal quale ho ritrovato fra il materiale lasciatomi alcune vecchie registrazioni in cassette e cd ,rarissime, di questa grandissima soprano di origine turca Leyla Gencer per la quale, stravedeva. Ho fatto poi ricerche letterarie su giornali dell'epoca sino a farmi, grazie ai video su You Tube, generare una completa mia opinione di una voce e donna straordinaria. In quest'aria che avevo solo ascoltato, mi sono emozionato nel vedere il controllo che imponeva a se stessa, rimandando indietro le lacrime che affioravano riascoltandosi nel finale della Norma del 1965 alla Scala diretta dal Maestro Gavazzeni. Indimenticabile!!. Grazie Signora Gencer...un ammiratore in più ovunque si trovi. Nedo Marco - Milano.
1:15~2:00, the eyes, the gestures.. so many emotions, memories... 2:10 when she loosens the scarf to breathe.. 3:05 when she puts on her glasses, retreating to her thoughts.. Powerful.
So sad to see, done so many beautiful things and loved for it, but the person is so lonely now! She has lost her life while it was so inportant for her and now she is alone, who loved her realy and not her only voice!
The absolutely marvelous and great Leyla singing at her best, I think that she has always been under rated soprano, I don't know why and this is a shame...
@@Empoweredwoman1234 I agree, and am not sure that her acting was less than Callas, and have wondered if her voice was simply too beautiful to sound as rage filled, or embittered or tormented as the instrument of Callas.There was always a noblewoman archetype inside of the voice of Gencer.
I think the only reason why she was under rated was purely because many opera lovers of the time were virtually unaware of her through lack of recordings with any of the major companies. Callas was widely promoted by EMI, Tebaldi by Decca, L.Price by RCA etc. It was only a minuscule number of people who had the chance to hear her live. Her singing here is magnificent.
@@TheVaughan5 I was lucky enough in college to have the curiosity and the willingness to look for the live performances of opera and vintage archives of great singers in our small city library- back in the days of vinyl. There was a silver box with three discs of this unheard of soprano, Leyla Gencer. Oh how I gasped with astonishment to hear her pianissimi and the distinct personality of her gulpy attack. Also the vastly wide range of roles she sang.
Sublime, indimenticabile Diva turca ! L'ho vista per ultima volta a Istanbul all'occasione del suo concorso di canto. Che presenza e che carisma ancora in 2006! Una grandissima signora e un'artista divina.

Una grande presenza Carismatica.... che bello rivederla .....impareggiabile.Eterna nei cuori di chi l'ha conosciuta....in una mia piccola performance dove ero accompagnato da Roberto Negri suo pianista alla Scuola di canto Scaligera...in alcune canzonette; prendevo in giro "bonariamente"i passaggi dei soprano leggeri...rise come una pazza..e in camerino mi abbracciò....che Dio l'abbia in gloria.
A nostalgia of emotions must have struck her core!..listening to that magnificent voice of her youth and career peak..There comes that point in a soprano's life when she can no longer sing the way she did, and reach that lofty register she used to deliver effortlessly..Fortunately we have recordings to capture these great vocal moments 🤔

İzleyiciler ona fiziksel zarar vermek için performansa gelmesine rağmen şarkıyı duyunca büyülendiler. Ve tüm seyirci ayakta alkışlamaya başladılar. Leyla bu videoda o şarkısını dinliyor ve sahnede yaşadığı korkuyu, baskıyı, üzüntüyü tekrar hatırlıyor.
Özellikle bu parcayi inanilmaz etkileyici seslendirmis. Belgeselini izledim, harika. Cok degerli bir sanatci ve Türkiye bize tanitmayi basaramadi ne yazik.
Böyle bir sanatçıyı bizden çok yabancıların tanımasıda ayrı bir mesele. Ders kitaplarında ve de çoğu öğretim yerlerinde böyle insanlardan bahsedilmesi lazım. Müzik,resim gibi derslerin çoğu ilkokul ve ortaokullarda boş ders olarak işlenmesi ise ülkemizin durumunu ortaya koyuyor. Böyle insanlarımıza sanatçı denir. Günümüzde kendini sanatçı sanıp aslında kendini gündem yapma dışında bir işlevi olmayanlarla dolu.

Leyla riconosceva alla Callas il fatto che fu rivoluzionaria nel trasformare la Coloratura in un...verbo musicale che sublimasse il personaggio..Nei nevai della Coloratura...poche voci artiste si sono confrontate col Melos e il Pathos della tragedia cancellando il Chicchirchi e Chichiriccò di troppi gorgheggi di maniera...il 90O fu un secolo d'oro...irripetibile...oggi i microfoni e gli Algoritmi servono un altro modo di affrontare il melodramma. Pace e Bene...io morirò con nel Cuore quel mondo che la Genger seppe far suo...in modo Esemplare e molto generoso.Chapeau a chi posta queste Struggenti ....testimonianze.
On the one hand this is very moving as Gencer is obviously grieved by the loss of her youth and her vocal powers. On the other hand, this is a cruel piece of voyeurism, and she should have been spared the entertainment made of her grief.
I think you missed the point. She is overcome by the emotion of her own artistry, not because of losing her youth. What she creates is profound emotions it touches listeners to the core. The role the story she feels it and listens to her deeply moving voice. Like other listeners of course she is going to be affected.
