Well, I mean the video was just ok because it was just Dillon. But the composition and editing, well those were Dillon so you can see how that ended up as it is.
I have the light commercial 5.0 for 2 years now. Fantastic rack. The tube sizing won't let you use attachments from the other companies, but BoS offers anything you'd want for less than the Rogue attachments anyway. I've never once worried about throwing any heavy weight around in it.
@@KavinayKishor the most I've ever squatted is 500 so I've never gone super heavy like some sick pros but no problems. I have the lat pulldown so I'm sure it adds some stability
@@christophercattie thanks, that helps. I have the habit of really slamming the bar into to cups so it's good to know it's okay with powerlifting loads.
Definitely a bang for your buck. I have had mine for 8 months now and I absolutely love the light power rack and the accessories that it comes with. When it comes to the numbering, I just write with a sharpie where I set the straps for a given exercise. That way, I can quickly set the safety pins and get going.
0:48 Dayum had no idea Dillon was so jacked! Look at dem gunzzzz...just like twin cannons! On a more serious note, love what you guys do! keep the vids coming! XD
NOt sure why I didn't come across your channel and BOS like one year back. Paid tens of thousands to Rogue and could have easily diverted half of it to our very own Canadian company. You my friend goes right up there with Coop and Brandon!
I got the same Utility barbell from BOS. It's a great bar, and like you said stiff! Would be nice if it had more aggressive knurling, or if BOS offered there powerlifting bar with a zinc coating for those concerned about rust. Can always go Rogue too, but in Manitoba the shipping is expensive, and I think their Rogue Ohio power bar with a zinc finish would cost over 600 all in with taxes and shipping. BOS is probably the most cost efficient / quality option in Canada. Sure you can get a bar for 100 dollars, but it bends like pasta and has horrible weight ratings. Also when the bar does not even have a brand... well that says something about it too, lol! Thanks for the review, awesome home gym!👊👊
Honestly I would of went with their powerlifting bar if the collars were a bit thicker, competition collars in a squat rack can be pretty annoying to walk squats out with how close the plates are to the rack. For the price though, its a great bar!
I have this rack and love it. I added the lat pull down attachment, spotter arms, and dip attachment. I also have their weight tree and bumper plates to go along with the same iron you have. You won’t be disappointed in any of those if you ever decide to add on.
You can install the Brute 2 rack with that ceiling height, however you have to cut six holes in the ceiling for the corner posts. The Bells of Steel cross piece has to be two bolts lower than the top I think it is, but the second cross piece can fit one hole higher than the Bells of Steel logo cross piece at the back, that way it does not block the logo at all when you stand in front of the rack and look at it, or take vidoes.
First and probably last time i purchase form Bells of Steel. I just received two items. The flat bench and the Nemesis bar. The bench came in defective, the holes on the pad don't align with the support bar. As for the Nemesis, i bought the bar because of the description. I have a shoulder and wrist injury, according to the description its safer to use. Unfortunately the bar shakes, i don't know why, all i can say, it doesn't help with shoulder stability, it actually hurt my shoulder and wrist.
Great review. There doesn't seem to be many reviews on BoS racks. I ordered the commercial rack in may and still waiting for it. Thanks for mentioning the jcup and roller jcups. Now that you mentioned there is no protection on it, I am going to buy UMHW tape and or furniture pads to protect the knurling on my barbell when racking.
It's pretty minor, especially because most competition style racks like ER, or eleiko also have the metal lip, but its still something to think about, and super easy to fix yourself.
Probably really comes down to who's using it, and how they're using it. We have one OPB at our gym that's pretty much smooth on the ends, but it gets used quite a bit, and in all kinds of racks.
Looks quite a lot like my Strength Shop one I bought a few weeks back, except that mine has fewer holes to set the bench height (but on the hand numbers every other hole - I’d also definitely write them on in your situation!). It’s great what can be done with relatively little space, right? 👍
Any specific reason you went with the utility bar over one of their power bars? Also, I just built his rack the other day, loving it so far. Appreciate the review, really helped make my decision easy.
I wanted something that had thicker collars so that the plates don't smack into the rack. Competition bars with thin collars have a tendency to do that.
So that's a very "normal" set up & weight pile, for a Not-Bryce type lifter... How much does that "everything you need, nothing you don't" set up cost, all in?
Depending on the collars you get (I went with more expensive oso collars) it'll be about $2000 Cad. You would save ALOT if you can buy plates second hand vs. new since the plates were about $1.30cad/lb which isn't bad for new plates, but I've heard of people getting used plates for around $0.50cad/lb.
At least your barbell has a center knurl. I settled on a Sorinex performance bar and it didn't have one (despite some of the pictures on their site showing one). The knurling is soft enough that I doubt it would have taken kilos off anybody's clean. I guess it wouldn't have made much of a difference on back squats either. Still kind of annoying.
Do you think that this would be worth getting over the new Bells of steel hydra series rack? Would you say the attachment selection is plenty for most people for the light commercial due to the proprietary hole size?
I've never understood people concerning themselves with the knurling wearing at the the 'J' cup position as you don't put your hands there, so it won't impact grip feel. Other than esthetics, am I missing something here?
I have 2 questions. Where do you place your plates? It looks like you have some high up and your 45s down low. Do they get in the way? Also, if you were to do it again, would you get the same rack or BoS’s upgraded Hydra rack? Thanks!
I had plate pegs for the 45lb plates, and used the band pegs for the 2.5's, 5's, and 10's. I think I just put the 25's and 35's against the wall at the time. Honestly I think I would just buy this rack again because you get so much for the price.
A1 Content as always. What Lens did you use for the shots where you sit in the rack and talk to the cam. The depht of field is on point. I am looking for new lenses atm
Have you used the straps for rack pulls? I specifically want to use straps for that reason...I can do well over 600lbs...Could this rack handle this kind of weight? I like the price, flat base, and the many accessories...Thank you for the review💪🏽
I mean... yes. The rack could handle it. But I would almost always recommend against doing rack pulls. They’re just gonna beat the shit out of your bar. Better off building some wooden blocks to pull off of.
May I ask how the bar would be harmed by dropping it on safety straps? I lift in a gym with a Ohio power bar and usually do 600+ pound rack pulls on a Rogue monster lite rack with safety straps...It handles the weight with ease...Thank you for your reply.💪🏽
@@Oldschoolgrizzly CB didn’t respond, so... setting down the weight on blocks is easier on the bar than forcefully putting the bar down on the safeties. An exaggerated example would be a single, centred safety strap catching the bar. This would really bend the bar fast.
Bells OF Steel stuff always came off to me as cheap chinese stuff that they have overpriced but I also noticed they seem to be improving their stuff far more frequently than fitness avenue does (another company in the GTA that imports chinese racks) When Bryce had the weight on the rack does it sway much, I have one of the old fitness avenue racks and that's the only thing that stresses me out.
How does the equipment compare to similarly priced stuff from other vendors such as rogue? And would you have made the same decision if ceiling height weren't a constraint?
Rogue definitely has great racks, but I don't think they have much to compare to for flat footed racks (which the BOS rack is). Bolting down a rack also wasn't really an option for me so even if I had higher ceilings, I'd still likely go with the BOS rack.
Where'd you get the platform from? Any reason you got everything from Bells of Steel instead of getting a bar from Rogue or a bench from somewhere else?
I built the platform myself, its a 1' thick piece of foam insulation (its like a really dense styrofoam feel) , 3/4" plywood, and 3/4' stall mats. I havent seen anyone else use the foam, but I find it really does help dampening the sound of deadlifts, while being stiff enough to not effect how the platform sits. As for why I didnt buy from other places, basically because everywhere was sold out. I was curious to try the "utility barbell" because unlike a lot of people I quite like texas power bar, which is also a 28.5mm barbell. I'll likely get a 45lb Ohio power bar whenever they're back in stock. I like that the 45lb OPB has thick collars so using it in a rack is a little easier, compared to bars with thin competition collars. I think price was also a factor for going with BOS, I didnt have to pay any shipping since they're local here in calgary, so that saved me quite a bit of cash.
dominickd16 I mean they were in stock at the start of the pandemic and a few times since I think. You can’t really blame them for not preparing for a worldwide shutdown.
Thought about that while editing, but did't want to go back and try to refilm just to add it in. If we review anything else in the future that'll definitely be on the list of things to mention.
@@calgarybarbell is this a service that Bryce provides? I’ll be setting up my rack tomorrow and it would be nice if he could come over to ensure it will hold all of my weight.
Since im in to crossfit, How is the pull up bar. Is the rack wobbling when doing kipping pull ups? Would the rack need to be bolted in the ground? Thanks
That's a great question, and one that I'm not sure I can answer with confidence. the pullup bar is nice, it has a fat side and a skinny side, with a couple different grips in the middle, but I'm thinking the middle attachments might be annoying if all you want is a straight bar, since hand placement would have to be wherever the middle bars aren't. If you have plate pegs and weight on the rack like I do, I dont think stability would be an issue.
