she most definitely gave him the chance to... she showed him countless times that she was there for him to talk to about anything, so I don't really see how you can fault her for anything? It was just Conrad's lack of communication and ruining a night that Belly was obviously excited for...

@@iris-xo No I dont see Belly doing anything wrong either except for expecting the worse.. Conrad didnt wanna break up so it was a misunderstanding... And Conrad didnt correct her since he was depressed but at the same time probably thought it was for the best since he wanted to protect her in a weird way.. I feel for them both here...

@@iris-xo As I said in my previous comment neither of them are right / wrong. Also they equally share blame for what went down. It's hard for Conrad to communicate when he doesn't want to ruin her night. He didn't wanna be unfair to her but he ended up doing it anyways. Also I'm not faulting her for anything so please do not misinterpret me. As I said, I understand them both and it's just miscommunication all around. Belly assumed he wanted to break up, she gave him back the necklace. She put words in his mouth. He told her to wait (he didn't want to let her go) and he drove off bc he knows she's better off without him when he's always disappointing her somehow. All Conrad wants is for Belly to be happy but in that moment he was a bit selfish and couldn't pretend he wanted to be there bc he's depressed about his mom. Also just bc someone keeps pressuring and prodding you to communicate your feelings / thoughts doesn't mean you'll eventually open up especially when you know "if you make this choice something bad will happen and if you don't then something else will happen" (he literally said this at the beginning of the season) Conrad is confused / overthinks every little scenario to the point where he shuts down in hard moments... he probably has a dismissive avoidant personality while Belly is more open and honest. Conrad is more rational because he's older and Belly is confrontational bc she's younger and more naive. Belly does deserve a lot better and even Conrad knows that which is why he removes himself from the situation altogether. He doesn't want to be a half assed boyfriend and stick around when he knows he's incapable of giving her the absolute best. But you probably don't get it or even want to understand 🙄 Relationships and feelings are hard especially mixed in with everything else going on. At the end of the day they're both just teenagers going through the motions. The point is I’m not faulting / putting down one character to uplift another. I literally love and can relate to both of them.

EXACTLYYYYY, she just jumped to the conclusion real quick.. i cant begin to imagine what conrad would have been going through and that too for monthss, the sadness and helpless feeling and still trying to moving on with life (college etc) coz life doesn't stop... he must be going through 24/7 would be exhausting as well, i was so happy that he found genuine happiness with belly, but.... And belly was also really close to his mom all the more reason to be understanding towards him coz everyone is different and deals with things differently.. and the break up was on such bad and dramatic notes which was sadder for both and I think especially Conrad, talking things out in a more mature way would have been better if she really wanted to breakup with him.

Hm.... I agree but I think it’s a little more complex than that. I think Conrad had been pushing her away for a long time. They’re both really messed up and grieving, but I think in the relationship he wouldn’t open up or talk to her. It’s clear in the other scenes she felt really helpless. It’s a rough one but I kinda see where she was coming from, when your so can’t lean on you, you start to grow apart and insecurity enters real easy.

@@kezibeeart3552 I think that's true as well, Conrad definitely has the tendency to push people away when he's dealing with something, he wants to solve it himself and tries to "protect" others, when really he's just pushing them away. But I really don't think he wanted to break up, he just couldn't deal with the prom and the party at the time and wanted to leave. We also know he was super depressed about the breakup from his roommate

he did ruin her prom. i get she should’ve been more understanding, but she saw him with another girl at the funeral. and she apologised multiple times throughout the show for the funeral scene. and conrad treated her shittily many times, susannah’s death isn’t an excuse. oh and let’s not forget jeremiah cheats on her in the books. belly cheats when she was 16, but jeremiah does it when he’s like 20. major difference there.

Belly then made a whole bunch of assumptions that it had something to do with her (rather than the fact that his mum was literally dying) and willed the breakup into existence

His behavior is repeatable. Belly had already seen him shut down on her after the almost kiss and the reason she broke up with Cam. She knows he’s going through the same thing where he’s shutting her out again in this prom scene. It’s an emotional high/lowroller coaster she has to go through with him.

@@Kuromiyapp personally I just prefer him because I feel like I understand his characters motivation more than I do Jeremiah. As the designated responsible sibling in my own family I relate to him more, and I feel like when he does screw up the motivation behind his actions is generally a misguided attempt to do the right thing by others but when Jeremiah has screwed up his motivation has been self serving. I mean if this was reality they'd both be terrible options and Cam Cameron would be the only logical choice. But what I want in actual reality is not what I want out of a soapy drama.

fr!! and she is always making a scene somehow. like in the very first episode of season one when her and steven fight and then everyone looks at her, and then the funeral, and then her and steven AGAIN at the party. like sometimes she should wait and learn that certain conversations or words should be said at certain times and places. i know she’s young and a lot of people use that to defend her, but most 16-17 year olds are more mature than her.

As much as I don’t like belly’s character, relationships are still a two-way street. “He just needed comfort” no, he didn’t. He needed a lot more than that, but even he doesn’t really know what he needs. Conrad has major communication issues and keeps deciding things for people on his own. He thinks it’s best to not burden belly with his struggles and try to be a normal bf for her. In the first season he didn’t tell Jeremiah about their mom’s condition bc he thought that was what’s best. He’s probably trying to be considerate, but it’s really not considerate. Not only does he hurt others by doing this, he hurts himself too and then he needs so much comfort and care

She was literally more that patient and understanding, she asked him was he okay and told him that if he needed to talk she’s there for him. At her own prom she’s clearly miserable and would’ve stayed miserable because she could tell he wasn’t there. Steven had to tell him to dance with belly and belly tells him if he doesn’t want to he doesn’t have too. She was more that understanding

​@@deborahgreats8970Actually she wasn't. Conrad is a complex character. He shuts people out. Belly doesn't. I've suffered from depression my whole life so I know exactly how Conrad feels. It's not that easy to open up to someone no matter who that person was. He was going through so much with his mom's death and all and he was happy when his mom agreed to try chemo but once he found out that the meds weren't working, his depression was back. If you seriously think it's easy for him to be at a prom or a party that way or to open up to her then you clearly don't know what it feels like to lose someone you love and you've clearly never suffered from depression before. As someone who experienced all that, I'm telling you it's horrible. Belly should've been more understanding. So please stop judging Conrad when you don't understand what he's going through!!

People judge Conrad's character so easily and say Jeremiah is a better brother(no hate for him) but yeah I also stay away from people when I don't feel good and due to my father's condition lately from last year, I wasn't able to give time to my boyfriend but he still understood me and told me, again and again, to not be dry and talk to him. So a relationship is about having direct communication, patience and understanding each other

@@deborahgreats8970 clearly not enough as belly broke up with him thinking that him not wanting to dance was the same as not wanting to be with her. Belly herself admitted later in the season that she shouldn't have broken up.

I semi I agree.i personally think that belly was out of line at the funeral. Conrad was at his moms funeral and was having a panic attack and that's why he was with aubrey.

@@messonmars It didn't look like a panic attack from what I saw but he is prone to them so who knows. They both said hurtful things to each other and I'm glad that they seem to be working past it now. I was team Jeremiah because the show makes him out to be so sweet but then I recently remembered that he cheats on Belly later on so now I'm back on team Conrad. This show has had me going back and forth though lol

And I don’t get how he’s able to develop any type of relationship with anyone. I mean he is extremely distant to the people that are supposed to be the closest to. I don’t really get this. The way his character is written doesn’t make sense to me. It would make sense if they didn’t share all of this history together. Like how did they grow up together and been friends since they were in diapers, yet he doesn’t trust her enough to be open with her. In my mind Belly just made up this connection in her head. Because idk how makes sense to her that she is struggling to get a boy she’s known her whole life to talk to her. And for Belly, she’s also known this man forever, and knows the type of person he is. She basically want him to be a different person. belly wants to be the special girl that make Conrad do all the things she has seen him consistently struggle with. I mean even without the dying mom, what about Conrad gives her the impression he would be able to do prom the way she wanted it? Come on. Listen they are teenagers. The drama makes it feel real to them. And every messaging suggests that love is supposed to be chaotic and hurt you.

Except for episode 4. Skye and the mom really detracted from the storyline. I felt all their scenes were awkward and really threw off the other actors vibes. felt very scripted and stale. I loved the first 3 episodes though! Hoping next week is an improvement!

There’s many layers to him and those that bother to explore his character learn enough to understand him more. Many Jelly fans would purely judge Conrad based on his lowlights and trauma and completely forget when he’s loving, warm, and tender. It’s sad really.

It’s called (drum roll please 🥁) COMMUNICATION!!! Tell her WHATS GOING ON! We see situations where he’s willing to do that with other people so why not with Belly?? She’s not a mind reader and I’m SURE she would have understood. It’s not even like this was her senior prom. She could have sat this year out! The fact that he can’t communicate until he has to HURT HER is insane and toxic, not cute and romantic. The first sign of trouble- HE SHUTS DOWN… I could see if he was like this with everybody but her, but he’s only like this WITH HER! It’s so weird how people ship them…
