For the old timers not excited to have Wonderhussy in the bar, they have either been hitting the ol’ red-eye to much or they have been in the desert sun to long.

That pot is a bed warmer! Hot coals of wood were placed inside, the lid fitted tightly and then placed under the covers in your bed to warm it up before you climbed under the covers in winter. My mom used a hot water bottle filled with hot water to warm our beds in the Appalachian mountains back when we heated the house with two fireplaces and a coal fired cook stove in our kitchen. As the winter wind whistled through the corners at night and temperatures dropped below freezing, that hot water bottle was a comforting addition to the bed. Houses have not always been as someone as young as you have known throughout your life. 👍🤠🙏✝️

Aye, " back yonder" they used to have little "blackamoors" to warm their feet up. More so in Europe, i fancy.

The Cosmopolitan was a two story buildings, was a Saloon, dance hall, restaurant, and the second floor was rooms for rent. Quite the respectable place.

I stayed in that motel with my ex- husband(were newlyweds then),years ago and it was haunted. It was run on solar and was a bed and breakfast, the food was fanominal! Guy named Don had it and that saloon was open then,he lived in a rock and wood shed behind the motel, possibly that one you showed with the newer front on it, it looked just like it, he showed it to us and all his solar and battery banks. The saloon was there and open then also, all locals, wasn't a tourist area then, so Don must have gone out of business? The rooms were all decorated in period decor and "Wild Horse Sue" rode in from her camp and was the cook for breakfast and dinner. There was a snowstorm that night and one of her young horses got out and "joined" the wild horse herd, so my ex and I drove around in the snow in our 4×4 in the morning to help her find the colt, but she caught him and was coming down the road riding one of her horses and had another on a lead and the colt was following them, along with a small herd of wild horses. We ended up staying another night because of the snow and the fun(we were the only customers, found the place on a map and called the chamber of commerce in Tonopah)and we actually almost bought land there. I have tried to find information on what happened to "Don" but I don't know if that was his real name, because I have only found information on another guy, maybe I have the name wrong. It was about 20 years ago?

My Grandfather used to stay at the Philadelphia House when he would deliver fuel to the Belmont mine. A lady named “ Philadelphia Rose gave a room to the miners and truckers. My grandfather has many cups of coffee there. It was a b&b I’ve stayed there and played pool. There used to be a miners cabin you could stay at. It was fun staying there

Don't think that is a bed warmer. I think it is ...A silent butler, sometimes called an ash butler, is a small container, often of base metal, sometimes silver or silverplate, with a handle and hinged cover, used for collecting ashes or crumbs.

I thought bed warmer too at first but it has a short handle. Every bed warmer I’ve seen has a long handle to reach all corners of the bed.

I thought a bed warmer at first too. I think they might have used it to move coals from one fire to start another. It could sometimes be an ordeal to start a fire if yours went out for some reason and you didn't have anything for kindling. People would sometimes borrow coals from their neighbor.

Brass skillet with lid next to hurricane lamp is a bed warmer. Hot coals were put in the pot and placed between the sheets before bedtime. It was removed before going to bed. Leaning Grader was pulled by horses or mules and used to grade or smooth the road surface on a tilt or around a corner.

Got some great pix of the old buildings too.. Things have really changed since we were there. Thanks for the video. Not sure about the singing,, LOL,,jk

I know everybody can google, Sarah Jane, so you might already know this, but the graffiti you were looking for is on a door frame on the first floor. It supposedly says, "Charlie Manson + family 1969," with a peace sign in the "o." Tasker Oddie has an interesting biography in Wikipedia, from which I quote: "He served as governor between 1911 and 1915 (as he was not married at the time, his mother Ellen Oddie and his sisters acted as official hostesses). On March 17, 1911 he signed the city charter for Las Vegas. During his tenure, women got the right to vote, a state motor vehicle law was sanctioned, mining safety legislation was endorsed, and there were improvements to workmen's compensation benefits." Belmont isn't mentioned in that bio, but Nye County is. I'm guessing he lived in that abode prior to his political ascent.
