Weather forecast for Saratoga has improved a bit for Saturday. Now it says mostly cloudy with 20% chance of rain, and best chance is in the morning.

I won big on Mystic Dan. Only research I did was I saw he was good on a wet track. I had Sieze the Grey too. Now let’s see if I can hit my “trifecta” with this race. No clue yet so don’t ask Lol.

Just because it was run during the pandemic at 1 1/8 and a few times at 1 1/4 doesn't mean that is at the level of the classic TC. The "Test of the Champion" was named as such because it is an endurance race. An endurance race is anything OVER 1 1/4. A repeat of the KD will never tell us if the newly turned 3yr old is capable of running 3 different distances that they've never run before in 5 weeks the last being an endurance race. Comparing any TC winner today with the winners of yesterday who ran and won ALL 3 at the classic distances, puts them on a different shelf and will never be seen as the same. In re the "article" in the perspective of an industry which needs to keep up excitement, interest in a sport that is - dying, makes sense. Not to mention that money is on the line. An argument - YES, but not enough evidence to prove the case. This is coming from the daughter whose father's family worked for several generations in the sport including an uncle who was working at the Belmont race track when Secretariat won his TC. I know the bad, and the good in the history of the sport, and admiration of what truly makes a "Champion" with a capital "C". Thank you for your takes. You are ALWAYS GREAT Jarrod! ;)

I have been following racing since 1980 and am a big fan of the Belmont Stakes at 1 1/2 miles, but I am also embracing the temporary change of the race this year. There is no Triple Crown on the line I believe that the 4-day Belmont Stakes Festival will be successful at Saratoga this year and next, and the field size is solid this year. If the 2024 race was at a mile and a half, there is no way that we would see Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan in the race unless he won the first two legs. Same goes for Resilience, The Wine Steward, and Mindframe. The Derby and Preakness winners are matching strides again, and a great supporting cast is surrounding them. We cannot ask for much more than that. The horse racing industry is going through changes and trying to keep pace with the ever changing landscape of the gambling industry as a whole, and the Triple Crown continues to be a bright spot in a sea of turmoil. The Triple Crown Series racetracks needed to be modernized and Churchill was the first to pull the trigger. Belmont is being rebuilt as we speak and hopefully the Belmont will be bigger and better when it returns to that venue in 2026. It would be great if the Triple Crown was on the line that year. Pimlico is next. The redevelopment plan is in the works and the Preakness will temporarily move to Laurel Park during the rebuilding process. In the meantime, I am looking forward to the conclusion of the 2024 Triple Crown Series, and next year promises to be an exciting 3-race event as well. Hopefully we can get all of this construction behind us and look forward to the traditional series for many years to come.

@@JarrodHorak Thank you for your take. Well founded, w/lots of insights and knowledge. I understood that next yr will also be at Saratoga 1 1/4 length. It would be great if that were not the case, and I hope this change is temporary. I got some signals that it was in the air to permanently change it, as it is such a hard feat to accomplish - but that is what makes it so great, exciting and, the "Super Horse." Thank you again!

@@WickedFelina The move to Saratoga is temporary, as is the distance change. The Belmont Stakes will be at Saratoga for one more year, and it will be back at Belmont Park in 2026 after renovations. They are planning to return the distance to a mile and a half, or at least that is what they are saying. I believe that they are also angling to get a future Breeders' Cup at Belmont as well.

I do not like him in this spot. He won with a great trip in the Derby. He got another great trip in the Preakness and barely held the place. I do not see him moving forward in his third start in five weeks.
