Thank you very much Bruno! I really appreciate it. When I go to Brazil it takes me a few days or maybe even a week to get my Portuguese up to a decent level where I can communicate with people. With some practice I can understand people more easily and then I find it easier to have conversations. I love the Portuguese language by the way, I think it's great. Muito obrigado, sou grato!
Hi Marta! Thank you for your comment I really appreciate it! It was fantastic being in BH, I really like the state of Minas Gerais as the people are very friendly.
Dude, you need to go to nice areas in Belo Horizonte! I live here! You should go to Mercado Novo, Parque dos Mangabeiras, Savassi, Lourdes etc and cities around here like Ouro Preto, Tiradentes, Mariana... tell me if u need help with this, my friend!
Hi Mario! Thanks for your suggestions, it's always good to hear of new places to visit. I only had a few days in BH so I saw as much as I could in that time. I did go to Ouro Preto and I filmed a video there which I will be publishing asap. That part of Minas is incredibly beautiful!
As a brazilian, I would say the BEST part of Minas state is the Historical cities and their traditional cuisine. These are the 'must to see'. Go to Ouro Preto and try some "Cozinha Mineira" restaurant there :D
I did go to Ouro Preto after I was in BH so stay tuned for that video which is coming up soon! I agree, the food in Minas was delicious, some of the best food I have ever tried!
Thank you very much Anderson! I had a fantastic time in Brazil! It is a fascinating place. It is an incredibly diverse country with a lot to see, you are correct!
Congratulations to your channel and congratulations that you are visiting my capital of Minas Gerais my capital of Minas Gerais where I was born Belo Horizonte Luciano Martins dos Santos in João Monlevade Minas Gerais 🇧🇷🤜🏼🤛🏼🇺🇸
Thank you very much Luciano, I really appreciate it! MG is a beautiful part of Brazil and I always enjoy spending time there! By the way I am British not American!
Thank you Frederico! I really appreciate your feedback, my Portuguese improves a lot when I'm in Brazil as I have more chance to practice it. I had a fantastic time in BH, I find the culture of the city fascinating and the people very friendly.
Thank you for the recommendations Vladimir, I did go to Ouro Preto where I filmed a video which will be coming up soon. A lot of people mentioned Inhotim to me but on this occasion I did no have the time to go there. Next time I go to BH I will visit it for sure! It seems like there is so much to do in that area!
Hi William, what a great and pleasant surprise to find your video in my playlist! You've got another subscriber. As a native 'belo horizontino', I was honoured and very happy to see my beloved city in your video. By the way, the video is very rich and accurate in information and with very good images. In other words, very professional. Hope you can visit Pampulha complex ( UNESCO's Heritage of Mankind ), at least a few of the 75 ecological parks, Mirante das Mangabeiras, the many museums ( including those around Praça da Liberdade ), etc. Are you from UK? WELCOME always! Last but not least, congrats for you Portuguese. Warm hugs. Now I consider you as a friend!
Hi Edinson, thank you very much for your kind words! I really appreciate it. That means a lot, as natives know their city the best! You live in a fantastic city. I try to make the videos as interesting as I can. Thank you very much for subscribing I am very grateful for that. I did visit the museums at the Praça de Liberdade which is the subject of my part 2 video which I am in the process of editing at the moment; it is very beautiful around there. There is so much to see in BH I did as much as I could in one day! Thank you for your comment about my Portuguese, I have been studying the language for about 5 years now but there are always new things to learn! I am from the UK, I live in a city called Canterbury which is a 1 hour drive from London. That's really kind of you, likewise I consider you a friend also! I am always looking to make new friends in Brazil!
Hi Marsha! Unfortunately only now I saw your reply about my comment. Be sure I was very happy and thankful. Many thanks for the words about my beloved city. Hope you may be back here many times yet. You'll always be received with open arms. When did you stay here? Where are you from? Once again, many thanks. All the best!
Olá! Asseguro que dentre as grandes capitais, é a mais segura. Centenase centenas de câmeras, muito bem policiada. Já fui assaltado várias vezes, em Salvador e no Rio. Aquí nunca. De onde você é? Abraço. @@stoperjailson2776
Hello, how are you? I'm brazilian and You won a new subscriber!!! I'm from Brazil's Northeast, but since 2020 in living in Belo Horizonte. I loved your video, because helped me to practice my english - listening and reading - Thank you so much!!! Hugs
Hello I am all right thank you! How are you? Thank you very much for subscribing to the channel I really appreciate it! That's good that you are practicing your English as I am a languages teacher and I used to teach English! BH is beautiful but so it the Northeast of Brazil!
@@williamgafrost Very grateful for your feedback! I started studying English very late, nowadays I study alone, sometimes I make video calls with some American friends and the practice of conversation helped me a lot. How wonderful you are a language teacher!!!!! Yes, the northeast is wonderful and I'm on vacation right now in the northeast lol
Belo Horizonte tem várias escolas de idiomas, sem dizer nos cursos online pagos ou de graça que encontramos pela internet. Em BH também existem encontros de inglês para praticar a conversação @@stoperjailson2776
Thank you for sharing!!. New Subscribed ad big like. Beautiful scenery, Belo Horizonte is the most importante city in Brasil. Carlos from Campinas, São Paulo State.
Hi Carlos, thank you very much for subscribing to my channel! Likewise I just subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watching some of your videos. BH is a beautiful city and I am so glad that I went there.
I was there for a training camp during the Christmas period in 2012-2013 as it was one of the cities in Brazil famous for having very good Muay Thai gyms, one that was affiliated with my “home” gym in Curitiba. The owner, Felipe SIlva ended up fighting in the UFC and his brother Fabiano was Brazilian Muay Thai Champion. The people in Juiz De Fora are amazing, very caring and loving, and I found it to be extremely safe compared to Curitiba which can have sketchy areas especially at night. They also call the people from Juiz De Fora the “Carioca Pacificado”, or better translated as the peaceful person from Rio De Janeiro.
That's awesome Gandulf, BH is a cool place! I had no idea it had good gyms like that. Very interesting. Yes I agree that the people in JF are friendly and welcoming, as is much of Minas Gerais.
Hope you're enjoying the city! Also the jetlag warriors are here too, maybe you guys could meet up, combine trip ideas and visit some places together making content for both channels, can be fun!
Thanks Nick I really appreciate it! Have an awesome time in BH. The energy in that city is incredible! As is the food. I'm still enjoying your channel so keep up the great work!
You MUST know Praça da Liberdade complex (e seus museus), Praça do Papa, Rua do Amendoim, Mirante das Mangabeiras, Pampulha complex, Mercado Novo and Inhotim (jardim botânico and the biggest outdoor museum in the world, at Brumadinho, close to BH). And, of course, the historical cities at nearby (Sabará, Congonhas do Campo, Ouro Preto e Mariana) and far away (São João Del Rey, Tiradentes, Diamantina).
Hi Claytom, thank you for your recommendations, I really appreciate it. I did visit the Praça de Liberdade and 2 of the museums there. They will be the subject of my part 2 video which I am in the process of editing at the moment. I will bear in mind your other recommendations for future reference. I also visited Ouro Preto which I found very interesting! There is so much to see in that area it is very impressive!
@@williamgafrost hey my friend i was just making a joke hahahaha this street is famous for having many buildings where girls offer their special services hahaha don't go there! it was just a joke hahah. but if you are in Belo Horizonte I recommend going to Ouro Preto which is a historic city. Ps: don't miss the Feira Hippie on Sundays on Avenida Afonso Pena either! try to go early
Que legal! Adorei ver seu vídeo sobre minha cidade natal! Não deixe de visitar o Topo do Mundo que fica perto de BH em Brumadinho. Lá é lindo! Abraços!
@@williamgafrost You will always be very welcome in my city! We are known as the capital of the Amazon because we are more in the center of the forest than in the city of Belém, capital of the state of Pará. We have our sights located in the Historic Center, such as Praça da Saudade, Teatro Amazonas, Igreja da Matriz, Mercado Adolpho Lisboa, Museum of the City of Manaus, etc. And an unmissable place, Ponta Negra beach, which is our river beach. There are more modern places like malls. We also have the CIGS zoo, there is the INPA institution. There is also nature tourism such as taking a boat and going to visit the indigenous people, restaurants with contact with animals, etc. The city of Manaus is considered big and you might think that the traffic is bad, but in the end everything works out!
Fun video! I am considering a few days in the area and definitely a night in BH. Using normal precautions, I guess you feel fairly safe in the parts of town you visited?
Thank you Simon! I would highly recommend visiting BH even for a short time. I felt safe most of the time in the day, but at night you have to be a bit more careful. Like you said, using normal precautions!
I watch another gringos on Brazil and you are the first guy that knows you can ask for trying samples. Same when go buy ice cream, try 6 flavors, and chose what you like most. I just guess you should buy a little more from that store, that seller gave you a lot of samples.
Thanks for your comment John. They were very kind in Armazém to let me try their samples. I did spend almost 40 reais on cashew nuts which I thought was fair.
Thank you Gabriel! That is really kind of you! I have been studying Portuguese for about 5 years now, on and off. It is a work in progress! Muito obrigado!
Hi William! Hope you're doing well. Still in Belo Horizonte? Thanks for your attention to my comments, for your reply. Appreciate it a lot. I'm leaving my email adress. If you wish to get in touch, I'll be very pleased to do the same. If you want I can help you to upgrade your skills in Portuguese, update you about our culture, what's going on here as well. Furthermore, I keep sharing your videos and expecting the ones to come. Once again thanks a lot for showing at least a part of my beloved city. Warm hugs from your 'belo horizontino' friend Edison. Hope you'll be back soon!
Hi Edinson, thanks for your kind words. I really appreciate it! I really would like to keep up to date with the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture, that you be great! Here is my email: william.g.a.frost@gmail.com It would be great to hear from you. Thanks for your support my friend it means a lot! I'll be back for sure as BH left a big impression on me. Take care.
the town council is sooooooooo good to feed these animals unlike some other "countries" that sentences someone for " feeding the poor ppl and the astrays, for ,intelligence and humanity sake!!
you are welcome. asia is good to visit, but, quite chaotic demographically speaking.far too many people, even in big cities like some places in china or,,korea
Hi Maria Jose, thank you for your comment and recommendation! I did visit Florianópolis later on in my trip so stay tuned for that video which I will release as soon as I have edited it! When I was there the weather was very wet with a lot of tropical storms!
I’m glad he did it, because it showed how nice we are (or should be) to foreigners. I’m not from Minas Gerais (a carioca here), but I’m proud of it anyway.
@@tulio2400 That's a really good point actually! Vitor was really friendly and welcoming at the shop. I think on the whole Brazilians are generous people.
Very welcome ! I think you had a good impression of our city, but the ture is that unfortunately the city has lost its true flavor over the years... our trees have been almost all cut down... the city in terms of infrastructure is a nightmare for most people who live here, although of course there are still positives points like our central market, some well maintained parks and the people still have a friendly spirit... I am leaving BH this year after 30 years of living here ... I'm tired of the rat race lol Very nice video ! and also ...your portuguese is good :)
Hi Rogosan, thank you very much for your comment! I really appreciate it. That is really interesting what you said about the city. That's a shame that it has lost some of it's flavour! But like you said the people are still friendly so that makes a huge difference. Of course it is a different situation passing through the city as a tourist and living there full time; you see different sides of the place. I had a good impression but the locals will know more than me! Good luck in your new chapter after BH!
@@williamgafrost yes, it's true my friend ..from a point of view of a tourist when we are traveling most the time we do not see the real problems in a city... but it was a very nice video of BH ! Thank you ! and have a nice regress...
Hi Henri, I learned Portuguese when I was working as an English language teacher in central London a few years ago. The school I worked at had a lot of Brazilian students and I started to spend time with them. That's how I started learning all about Brazil! Then I about a teach yourself book and asked my Brazilian friends to help me. So most of my Portuguese was actually learned in London!
@@williamgafrost woww that is really cool... I spent a 2-weeks bus trip in NZ with the people from UK, it let me quite surprise how this people are really open and friendly. I do not know why but I thought they were rather closed but they are not. Hope you enjoy anything in my homwtown. Good luck!

2:7 million inhABITANT is too much for for that geographycal density? try some small city in asia instead just 700km sq to share with 8 million.. now.that is a greatttttttttt contrast.minas gerais in comparison is farrrrrrrrr to giant and large
Thank you for your comment. I would like to discover Asia more as it is a region that I don't know that well. But you are right, the population density in some Asian cities is very high.
