I live in Newcastle. Me and my mates had a road trip through the countryside one day last year and stumbled upon these mines by complete accident. A couple of the iron gates were unlocked on the mines so we had a timid venture inside but had to turn back to due to inadequate footwear and our phone torches were just completely consumed by the darkness. Would love to return for a proper scheduled tour with suitable gear. Makes me proud and humble of the astonishing work my local ancestors did up here. A landmark to be proud of.

That was a cool mine in there I just wished you'd showed more of what was on the upper workings of the drift that you were on when the video ended here cause it looked like it was fixing to get more interesting there too have a great day now

Hello again Antonio. Yet an other outstanding documentation of a very cool mine. I could spend hours underground with you guys. X coal miner myself.

Here we go, larking around some old mine dwellings, oblivious to the fact, that around 200 years ago, others who worked in these areas, did so, with a great deal of pain and suffering. Just try and imagine, what it must have been liked, for example, to shape and fit each individual rock, to produce a "safe working place", for mining? Consider the amount of time, this would have taken, and the human cost, physical and financial, etc. There are NO words to describe my respect. SO keep larking about boys and girls. Just remember, you are in the domain, of those you can describe, as true heroes. Nothing but respect.

GET OFF MY LAND! lol, that's my home turf ;) It's called the brewery shaft because the land was owned by the brewery, there was no physical brewery. There was a 50ft tower on the top of the shaft too to give it extra drop, the air was drawn in at the top of the tower too. As well as the compressed air, that shaft has turbines to create electricity. Excess was fed back to the village meaning it was the first village in the UK to have electricity. My latest video, about the shale was recorded in that mine :) Yes, that silted up drift on the right at Whiskey Bottle Junction is the original entrance. Can still get out, but it's not nice.

nice tour but could have done with some more please, really amazed at the workmanship put into building those stone walls and ceilings just so perfect in the fitting of them all by hand.
