I've been in contact with the Beluga staff team and while they are obviously upset, they are willing to resolve and prevent issues like this further down the road. Benji did get demoted but all that secret spy espionage crap just shows how secretive and backstabby the staff team can be. Other admins and staff that sent the initial message were warned. Rick told me not to leak this but I don't care. The beluga staff team are trying to tame the server and they made this announcement. "The other languages should be only posted in staff-random , Mild NSFW like really mild is allowed in staff-random no discussions of such sort should take place in staff-chat if staff members are seen using their permissions on other staff nemerbers they will be punished if a staff member is behaving in an inappropriate way with other staff members (sexually) they will be instantly demoted and banned. If you're to be seeing going off topic in staff chat a verbal will be issued if continued a warning if done again demotion. @everyone Rick also tried to justify the bomb joke by sending me 5 paragraphs explaining the joke. It boils down to "the person I was sending it to would find it funny", honestly better left in DMs. The other gay = man r* message honestly in my opinion came out of nowhere. Rick claims they are missing a comma (gay = man, r*) and the message was misunderstood. Honestly, I'm 50/50 about this. Could be a mighty excuse or could be what they meant, hard to tell when the message came out of nowhere. At 6:06 the profile should've been rick and pat, not benji and pat. My bad, the cons of editing at 10pm.

Being staff shouldn't be seen as something you "deserved", it's a task you're entrusted with, seeing it as deserved perks is what causes stuff like this
i was in a server made by a youtuber who was part of lgbtq+, the server was lgbtq friendly and also one of the rules brought up to not start religion fights or bring up religion, as its not a religion server and its common sense to not talk about a severwide uncomfortable subject. but the youtuber was the owner and he never checked his own server, yet he let a staff in-training be homophobic, transphobic, ableist (specifically very ableist to me and an old friend of mine) and she would always try to shove religion down peoples throats. literally none of the other admins would try to take care of it and she was VERY disliked inside the server. thinking about that experience (and the many other ones from discord in general, thats how bad this app is) still SHAKES me, ableism is very scary to go through just like any form of discrimination can be, esp when you have anxiety. this is why i dont join servers anymore - jeez.. tl,dr: one time a lgbt youtuber was an owner of a sever but him and his staff team failed to mod the server, so they let a bigot that went against every rule be a mod in training. (im mentioning the youtuber being lgbtq because its weird to me how they would let a homophobe/transphobe be a mod lmao)
Fr I stopped using user-moderated platforms and serveds bc I'm so sick of power abusing mods. I'm NOT being told what's right and wrong by literal children, bigots, and/or hypocrites. I only have a server for close friends and that's it.

As a gay person, I make homophobic gay jokes all the time. But I know that there are people who aren’t comfortable and don’t take things lightly, so I tend to keep my jokes within people who do the same. Saying things like this in a public discord server with a diverse amount of people won’t be taken lightly for sure, and the staff should’ve thought of it first.
If you make a “lol so edgy joke” it has to be funny, but also not just extremely offensive. I get that people like saying “lol offended XD soft soyboy” bullshit because they’re not part of the group being targeted and aren’t offended by something that doesn’t offend them but have some compassion
I only do it around my friends who are comfortable with, I wouldn't do it publicly not because I'm scared of getting ostracized but simply bc it feels wrong. (As a trans person)
I don't even find that joke that homophobic, it seems so cartoonishly exaggerated I can't imagine it being ill intentioned for the most part. I feel like it's more important to look for more context and the persons background versus just 1 joke. But I wouldn't be surprised if they are homophobic bc it's discord mods. 🤷
Well like most terrible youtubers, the algorithm blessed him anddd he knew how to milk that stuff heavily. That and the formatting of the content was unique (at the time, now it’s just overused and bland but I digress). Also, majority of his audience are like elementary to middle school kids and their sense of humor doesn’t require much effort to appeal to. Sheer luck and a brain dead audience makes the perfect content farm.
If beluga is the server owner and is a key decision maker he should be making himself more accessible, even if he has a separate email specifically for server management that he can check semi regularly.
Whaaat? A server full of 13 year olds is gonna be toxic? I can say for a fact most of Beluga's fanbase is 13 or younger, so there's no doubt in my mind that it would be like this.

this video just screams "admin abuse" at its finest. i really find these large public servers to be very toxic and have your account severely at risk of being banned over a light hearted and chill conversation like mine was. this video should be shared and give everyone a louder warning to not join large public servers such as this at all costs. its not good at all.
in geometry dash discord server there are 4 people named the n word hard r and are basically alts for people to ping them to say the nword, now keep that in mind, staff ban anyone who pings them to bypass full BUT THEY DONT BAN THOSE ACCOUNTS BECAUSE "its hard when it comes to finding accounts" LIKE YOUR STAFF TEAM CAN EASILY TAKE THISE ACCS DOWN

@@dionnix But in this particular situation, it's the troublemaker who owns the document and can remove everyone. The same goes for GitHub, where you have a project owner. Doesn't matter if you can view the history normally, if the owner sets it to private and removes everyone, you can't see the history no more. But both Google Spreadsheets and GitHub allows you to make a copy of the whole thing and set a new owner on it.

I was there some time ago,even the community members are toxic. They worsened my anxiety, and everyone normalized dehumanizing. Edit: by the way Pablo abuses his mod power. Not sure if he's still a mod but he was expressing highly predatory behavior towards minors.

All of that sounds awful... Geez. I was definitely asking myself the same thing: "Why the hell does Beluga not intervene?" Even if he's a busy person, one would think he'd take a small part of his day to properly address glaring abuse issues affecting his community. Especially because he's at the helm of said community. Or will he only take notable action once this stuff damages his reputation enough? Seems like it's ready to catch fire at any moment. Kinda seems like Beluga is one of those content creators that we'll eventually see "Rise & Fall" videos of from the RU-vidrs who make that kinda content.

Joke like that isn't the best idea to have on social media like that publicly. Really, jokes like that should be shared with friends who ain't sensitive to that kind of subject, like in a kind joking way as it wouldn't be hurting anyone if done in private. Sharing joke like that to someone who doesn't know you well, even on a public server would definitely be sensitive and offensive.

@@e-tean-son4146 ehhh not really, there's a time in place, in very specific circumstances you can absolutely nail a dark humor joke, but it's like the nuclear option of jokes, either you get it right, or you absolutely botch it and you look like a genuinely terrible person. And more often than not, dark humor isn't really flying well in a public setting unless you're a comedian or some other established jokester in a setting where everything you say is not meant to be taken as a joke.

I remember the first time I joined the Beluga discord server. I hadn't seen any toxic messages when I joined, but it just had such an uncomfortable aura to it, that I ended up leaving 5 minutes after.

this is why I don't trust anyone with admin perms. I know if you're busy it's hard to manage a discord, but you should not allow someone to have this much power, let alone basically giving someone a power over you so that you can't punish them (the part about the spreadsheet thing)
Yeah, that's why I am really careful with this single "Administrator" toggle on roles, because it just bypasses everything you set above. I even strip that off bots, because... reasons.
Ive been on the Beluga discord server since July 5 2021, the servers definitely been chaotic. I agree the rules are really strict, they even banned swearing but i think they unbanned it by looking at screenshots. The moderation team is really lazy, and i agree, because it only depends on the BeluBot. I've never seen an admin actually do anything while on the beluga server and i've only seen moderation on the announcements channel.
I completely forgot about Beluga's server I remember last time I checked it was 70K members now 700K holy lyre- I just can't believe the Staff caused a havoc with such magnitude... I hope Beluga learns from this lesson and chooses his Staff more... Wisely.
I was once in a server for this artist, and one of the mods said “You are a man and you will never experience sexism, you cannot experience sexism, you have absolutely no say in sexism and that is all” and then a huge announcement is made that the members were being sexist but not the mods. Not only that but a server was made to get mad at that comment and some guy acted immature saying how he will send a server link into the chat to see how long until he gets banned, and they twisted that and said the server was a hate group and also that he was planning a huge raid on the server. I managed to appeal and get unbanned but after all that I just never rejoined

This is why i don't have any mods or admins on my server. I am actually active on the server and respond to messages, instead of acting like since im the owner, im too superior to respond to my member's messages directly. It annoys me that most server owners just let power tripping admins run their server for them who act toxic and unfair towards the members, and they just ignore everything bad that happens.
Because. It's hard. I have multiple server for games with 14-20k and some will 200-500+ members For servers, I can't answer everything. Most of the time I have them off.

I've never understood what the comedic appeal surrounding beluga is. He uses the same dry, corny and simply monotone humor for every piece of content. I could argue that watching a PowerPoint presentation about politics is a better source of entertainment.
It was funny for me NGL, because he was the first discord based editing RU-vidr that I saw, till he didn't make new jokes and made exactly the same joke over and over again
He understands the basic rules of humor and knows how to make something out of limited resources. But the problem it's that It reuses jokes and concepts and it's content is pretty much a pool of junk food entertainment. I don't hate Beluga, i like some of his videos, but it's not the channel i would become a fan

Im speaking out of experience and also out of frustration, I once visited the beluga server and yes that was most definitely the biggest mistake of my entire life. What I am trying to say is that nobody should be surprised if the FBI gets involved because some of the staff there are very fucked up. Its not just being homophobic and being an absolute asshole, there is more to it than what meets the eye, Of course I left the server after a month. In my opinion, I think the entire server should be deleted and even the entire staff team should get their account deleted. I hope they really resolved their problems because this won't be all that we will hear from that server.

(Most of) these aren’t hate comments. These people are mostly pointing out Beluga’s ignorance and failure to hire decent mods or saying “It’s a server full of edgy 6th graders, what do you expect?” You need to realize that not everything that is critical or can be seen as a negative opinion about someone is considered hate.
