The Beluga Whale (Delphinapterus leucas) is a small to medium-sized whale species, known for its distinctive all-white color and rounded forehead. They are found in the Arctic and sub-Arctic waters and are highly social animals, often swimming in groups. Belugas are also known for their ability to mimic human sounds and other vocalizations. They feed on a variety of prey, including fish and squid, and have a life span of around 35 years in the wild. These whales are not considered to be under immediate threat of extinction, however, climate change, pollution, and hunting are potential threats to their populations.

There's lots of wonderfully peaceful species like reef sharks, whale sharks, hammerheads, and threshers, but it's important to remember that their way of interacting with the world is with their teeth. Lemon sharks and tiger sharks are very notorious for giving divers test bites that can do a good bit of damage, but they don't do it out of malice. They just don't know what you are.

@@filofito I’ve never seen anyone exaggerating facts about dolphins. I’ve seen people discussing the negative aspects of dolphin behavior - but it’s all factual. No one is claiming that dolphins are rolling up with AK 47s and robbing banks. 😂 The juxtaposition of the dolphin’s cute persona with some of the darker aspects of their behavior is certainly going to get people talking. …but I’ve never seen anyone claiming that dolphins are totally evil psychopaths and wildly exaggerating their behaviors. I’ve seen the same phenomena with otters. People are just surprised by the information and tend to discuss it a lot.

These gentle marine creatures typically live in groups of 10 individuals, but they also socialize with other belugas outside of their family unit. .. they known to be sociable and Friendly.. Very supportive animals.. they Can try to play with other mammals.. I saw a one playing With a bird tougher and the bird was giving him the fish but the beluga whale was teasing the bird and pretending as it will hunt but it doesn't actually do so ..and the bird wasn't Afraid was manly chilling on yen sea surface and they kept following one another.. You can search the video of beluga whale playing with the segal .. if I wrote it correctly.. anyway they known to be only aggressive when they defending themselves other then that .. they pretty Friendly and would even play with humans .. very extroverted animals I guess like some type of birds tend to be Very playful

I went to the shedd last year and spent a good while watching their belugas play with blankets (theyd swim around with the blankets covering their heads like a hat, so cute) but the craziest thing was how one of them would stop every now and then to slowly swim in a circle with his head tilted so that he could see out of the water There was something so incredible about realizing in real time that the beluga was watching US for entertainment as well! I noticed he liked babies and people wearing bright colors, and would do the slow looking whenever they walked past. It was absolutely amazing ❤️❤️ to this day i wonder if he liked my hot pink hair 🤣

I hope they weren't in some enclosed space like an aquarium. You could treat them as good as you want in those, they're always gonna be sadder than in an ocean. The worst is that they're very intelligent so it's not like you could argue they don't feel the mental burden of that.

We forget we are small, don't need much space compared to bigger animals..We walk around on a 2d surface ( the ground) most of the time, so don't need lots of turn around space to move .. But whales etc use the whole 3d around them.. Cos they are so big, their muscles don't even get properly used if they can't speed up & swim for acres/ miles , & deep down & back up at speeds.. That's why in captivity, their top fins ( dolphins etc) curl.. From their lack of muscle use.. It's like if we are in a gaol cell, too short to run in.. Too low to jump in .. Too narrow to stretch out in.. That's 'punishment'.. So why would it be different for them.. More likely way worse.. We can't even translate for their understanding.. And no friend & family visits & phone calls.. No release date.. God it seriously makes me want to cry seeing them be used for stupid peoples entertainment ( I mean SeaWorld visitors that don't know better) 🌏☮️♾️

They’ve also pushed multiple people who were drowning, to the surface. One man had attempted to take his own life, bones breaking on impact and ultimately causing him to drown , this fatal height was more than enough to take him out but as he recalled regret and guilt, thrashing around, he was lifted up to the surface for some 30 minutes, only to find as the rescue boats came in that a group of these little guys were swimming off.

My family has summer cottages on an Island off the coast of Maine in Casco Bay. One summer we had a young Beluga Whale that came into the bay and would follow the Island Ferry back and forth. It stuck around most of the summer and was so cute and playful, especially with the kids... they could literally reach out and pat its head! It was such an amazing experience!

Coolest thing i ever saw was one of these guys save a lil girls teddy bear. One was playing by a dock by the beach. And people were of course taking pics and petting him, which he seemed to love. One lil girl pet him and he opened his mouth and it scared her, so she dropped hwr teddy bear and started crying. I was next to her sitting on the end of the dock and i saw the dolphin look at her, the bear, and then me. He then gently grabbed the bear and gave it to me. I was like 14 at the time and just blown away. I even said thank you, cause... It just felt like i was dealing with another person. I swear when he gave it to me i heard a British accent say, oh my, i seem to have startled this little girl. Give her bear back, be a good lad.

But it's always important to remember that wild animals can be just as unpredictable as people. Always treat them with respect and don't try to interact with them unless you are trained to do so. Only a handful of domesticated species can be handled by people safely without building up trust and understanding first. Strangers can be a source of joy for some intelligent species, but more often than not, we are seen as either a threat to themselves or their home.

@@SitaraAleu appreciate the knowledge as I have always marveled at the dolphins 'healing contact' for children who've suffered abuse, and adults that needed dolphin therapy. And now belugas are another marine creature that show just as much interest in humans with as much friendliness. I'm of the opinion that people don't respect sea life or land creatures, always blaming the animals for aggression, when in fact, people are invading their territory, and not the other way around. If some people comment that dolphins aren't friendly 'as they've been told', there's obviously a real valid reason on the part of the dolphins to behave in said manner. People are actually the most cruel creatures to exist, seemingly friendly, but wouldn't bat an eyelid at some things that are cruel, when examined under the lens of 'do no harm.'
