This brings back wonderful memories of my childhood of spending my summer holidays with my aunt, uncle and cousin. They all worked for the estate, uncle was a game keeper, aunt ran the refreshments in the very large carpark and my cousin became the events organiser up to his sudden death in 1989. The then Duke Charles always came and spoke to me while I was there helping my aunt and was so friendly to all who worked for him. The compassion shown when aunt Amy and then cousin Jimmy died by the Duke and Duchess to the family has never be forgotten.
I remember your cousin, Jimmy Durant, well. We lived on the estate until 1964. Dad was a gamekeeper and Mum was cook for the "old " Duke. Every Christmas there was a huge party for all of the estate kids and the Duke and Duchess would hand out presents under the tree. Happy days - all gone now!
I cycled to Belvior with my bro many times, unfortunately we got a thorn in my bro's tyre, anyway, I walked back to the Ville, many miles away. Twas a good crack as I stopped at all the Pubs on the way home! Ha Ha, Haaaaaaaaa! It was a good day even though it was dark. Twas summer time Sir! And no mistake! Thank you, tis a grand place. Seriously.
