It does not prevent you from getting covid but it will greatly reduce your spreading it. So yes it does help with the spread of covid, do not confuse not stopping you from getting it because it does not cover your eyes, with not spreading it and therefore not being effective. ALL of those studies were about the mask wearer being able to contract it which is obvious since it does not cover your eyes.

Change the mask regularly. I do not understand why people get riled up about ***someone else**** wearing a mask. This young lady knows she has a history of being vulnerable to the effects of certain viruses. In general, people out in public have horrible respiratory etiquette (coughing and sneezing without bothering to cover, etc). It's no one else's business if she wants to wear a mask. I was an RN. That is how masks work, but, yes, they should be changed out on a regular basis. Someone else choosing to put a mask on their own face hurts no one.

A. There's different grades of masks, many of those studies are for the ones that don't meet N95 quality. B. A lot of studies are privately funded, and while I think it's good to keep them in consideration, the medical community, as a whole, hasn't flipped their opinion and I'll take they're opinion over my own as I am not in that field for a living. In any case, you do you, but it's important to respect others' choices without assuming they're uneducated in the matter. They may have just followed a different rabbit hole than you did.

She requested that masks as well as air filtration and far UVC light are made available in government facilities-including jails and detention centers. She is speaking out against any kind of ban on masks and asking they be required in medical facilities. That’s not a crazy request whatsoever. It’s a medical facility. Where immunocompromised people live. I’ve lost count the amount of infections I’ve contracted from being inpatient. Maybe you haven’t dealt with aging family members but the flu ripped through an elder care rehab facility and my grandfather passed. Is it guaranteed that was the root cause? No. Was anyone masked? No. 4 people died in the same week. Safe to say had the staff taken such a simple precaution and masked, it likely wouldn’t have spread that quickly. To be clear, she never said “public spaces.” And the hospital isn’t a “public space,” but a publicly accessible space with areas that are not public. Just like government buildings are publicly accessible and have some areas that are not. What a stupid take.
