Interestingly this is the second Princeton University commencement speech in which graduates are urged to remember the role of luck. The first, which I highly commend, was Michael Lewis's. It is surely the universe's way of telling us how important personal modesty and sense of perspective are.

What planet are you from? Certainly not this world. Or have you been asleep for the past ten years. You must be living in a buble? The world is in economic depression and the US has amassed more net debt in the past ten years (most in the last four years) than the total sum of all of the debt from every year till ten years ago. That is just one illustration of how bad things are and yet a more downward path for the US is soon to follow.

Not to make this about religion, I'd just say that it's interesting that someone as intelligent and circumspect as Bernanke could be religious. How does he not see through its many flaws? In a Jews defense, I will say that Judaism isn't as violent as the rest and keeps pretty peaceful.
