I love how Mel's all dolled up, Ben's got a fancy suit and Tim's just wearing a jumper and skinny jeans. I guess they're just grateful he turned up in shoes! :p
you don't need to dress to the nines to sing and have an amazing voice. tim gives me the shivers when he sings. he hits the high pitches as judas like ted neeley did as jesus.
@@KittenLynn very well said. I feel like he sings with more passion than Mel aswell. Love him but never thought I'd ever see him play Judas after some of his songs 😂

@@annashaw6538 It seems…extremely apposite and appropriate to me: for a skeptic like Minchin to play the part of someone who lauds the genuine good in Jesus, but curses and laments the myth and bullshit and aggrandizement that both tarnishes the human good and leads inevitably to his painful death. What more proper role could one imagine?
this is SOLID proof that they didn’t need to put that awful autotune on the recorded performance. all three of them sound AMAZING! there was no need for autotune and i honestly have no idea why the producers added it
@@utoobah yeah, Tim absolutely never needed autotune, in the tour of J.C.Superstar they did put autotune over the voices for the recording though. It's not that recognizable, but at one or two moments of the DvD you can clearly hear it.
Big fan of this musical for almost 40 years. Lifelong atheist and I still love it because it rocks! I can't wait to see the full performance when it gets released and I am thrilled that Tim Minchin is one of the lead roles!
Me too. Atheist but love everything about this. I even cry during Gethsemane because Jesus reflects the defeated feeling when we have no choice but to give up. Very moving.
Me three. Atheist, but the songs and the performances (this one, but also the one from the 70's) are so moving and brings me to tears every time. And yes, Tim Minchin is absolutely fantastic. I knew he could sing, but this is another level.
Jesus Christ Superstar is not a play. It is a rock opera. It is not a satire. It is a modern take on the Gospel, presenting the Biblical characters as real people and Jesus strongly showing his human side. Plus the singing is great. The score requires the vocal abilities shown by all three singers.
It's not satire? You sure? Pretty sure they didn't have tanks in first century Judea. Also, while on the topic of satire, you listen to the song "superstar" and you tell me that it isn't dripping with satire from the start.
@@rhdrbob “Superstar” is definitely satirical, but then you have songs like this one, Heaven on Their Minds, Pilate’s Dream, Trial Before Pilate, and Gethsemane to remind you that it is still taken very seriously at points- but where the modern commentary occasionally comes in is when some satire does
I was too young to see the arena tour in Australia and my mother and older brother went to see it (in the front row, I might add!) and apparently Tim was nothing less than freaking PHENOMENAL... people need to keep some opinions to themselves sometimes, just because he's not their favourite Judas, doesn't mean they get to shit talk him for everyone else... But you are absolutely right, he places himself into every role and undeniably COMMITS, truly a talented man.
This song is best in the context of the play! I certainly want to see this in full costume, it appears that verses were skipped over in order to fill the convenient air time. I am so-oooo excited to find out that there is another generational incarnation of this rock opera...and I just found out today! My fantasy is to be able to audition for a part in this. Ive been singing the songs in my car here in the states.... frankincense and myrhh spice...this Jesus is cool!
After watching Superstar I have fallen in love with this musical. I can't wait to see this maybe later this year. Lord Llyod Webber has picked a fantastic cast.
I lost count of the times that it I've sene this video. But I love it so much. Melanie looks absolutely beautiful and they are all so great. Only Tim's face doesn't look complete without they eyeliner here, haha.
Congrats for Melanie. Such a great voice, well worked, great breathing support, pitch perfect, beautiful, talentes and nice woman. Great for her, doing what she really studied for at college: stage singing/acting
I saw this in Melbourne and i honestly thought it was amazing!! I have grown up watching all the older versions and this was probably my favorite one. Everyone has all their own opinions but i loved it and even cried!!
Agreed. One of Webber and Rice's best. This really makes you feel for Judas in my opinion. Have not seen it in years and can still sing the majority of the words.
I saw the movie of Jesus Christ Superstar with Tim, Mel and Ben. It was amazing! Tim's voice was by far the best but Ben was really raw with emotion. Mel was really good as well.
People hating on Tim Minchin need to back off, listen to his other songs he is amazing. Just because his voice sounds nasal in one song doesn't mean his voice is like that all the time! The nasal sound could also be the mic, different mics sound different on different people. He may also have a cold and can't help the nasal sound, you don't know the reasons for the nasal sound. Also an atheist is perfect for the role of Judas. I love Tim Minchin his work is amazing I especially loved him in this musical! Rant over guys
Gemma Leighton Well, I watched a few different stagings and I still think that Jarome Pradon is the best Judas I've seen so far (I don't compare it with the original because no one will be able to compete with that^^). But it's a matter of taste :)
They were all fabulous, i'm sure they'll be better performing in the story and stuff, i just love Tim more than anything, so proud of him. Very excited for seeing it in 12 days!
Tim is a brilliant songwriter, and his singing chops are better than he is ever credited for. Those of you complaining in the comments section could not have delivered a better performance. Let us not forget that the song is in Em, and Tim prefers to sing in... F shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarp!
spankywzl 😂 while we’re Minchin fangirling (always, for me), let’s not forget to mention he’s also an incredible actor. And I completely agree his chops are very good - his instrument might not be a Stradivarius (metaphorically), but he uses it better than most people whose pipes are inherently better. Fuck, I love Tim Minchin tho
I saw JCS back in ' 75 during the Sydney season, with Trevor White as Jesus and Jon English as Judas. We went as a excursion for the school choir. It was the first time I had ever been to a "real" theatre to see a live show. We had seats in groups of 2, 3 or 4, scattered throughout the theatre, as they couldn't get us a block of seats, I was lucky enough to be seated centre-front-row, next to our music teacher. It was the most phenomenal thing I had ever seen. I was 13 years old...
as you can see tim isn't feeling okay, perhaps a cold? don't judge someone because you heard one thing that is not perfect! nobody is perfect! would you sound better when you have to perform while struggling with a cold?
I watched a version of this show in a small theatre when I was at school as a teen. I have to admit I don’t remembered the show at all, but watching clips of it with such big stars in it gives me a different feel to it all! It’s a shame that I have missed it when it came online few months ago.
Brilliant! Wish Tim had more to sing though haha, he's amazing! Wish they'd talked to him a bit more in the interview too, but I suppose it's an improvement on last time... Absolutely cannot WAIT for the tour! Thanks for uploading this, I love it :)
don't talk if you don't know, she sounds exactly the same as in the albums, she's no need for autotune, she has always been named the talented one, the one who can sing and so on... and she writes everything, 6 solo albums on her shoulders, 5 of them written by her (the last one is an album of covers from musical). And please, watch her solo performances, her live dvd's, and come here and tell again she can't sing. People who speaks under ignorance end up looking so stupid.
