Oh man what a revelation. I was ALWAYS told by instructors to line up my feet at the target, which then caused me to slice, and then instructors started manipulating my swing (which I HATED) and then I gave up. Beauty lesson, Shawn!

Always do the diagonal stance but didn’t know why. Always getting told I’m aiming too far right. Glad I decided to stick with it. Thanks Shawn 👍🏻

Amazing when something instinctive works and because it does not follow the trends, you get comments and dirty looks; great to know the truth huh?! Feels so good to know you are on the right path! 👍💪👌🫶👊

Shawn, I'm 67 and will readily admit that I was skeptic # 1 when I first saw your vids on closing the clubface 2 or 3 degrees and using a neutral grip to produce a strong straight ball flight. I was fully expecting a hosel rocket smoking it left (I'm right handed ). I did this with a GW and was stoked as the ball went right down the line/reference point I'd selected. I'm hitting driver 300 (with carry) , 3 wood 270, GW 120/130, everything new and improved distance and line wise. Simply having the face square at address now provides about all the fade I need, and just adjusting my stance a bit to the left gives me a suitable draw. Thanks for relieving the stress of not knowing what I was doing correctly/ incorrectly. I've also gone to graphite shafts throughout the bag . Golf is fun again.

I change my set up to this diagonal stance about 3 months ago along with the strong grip about 3 yrs ago and I went from driving 230 yards max to drives now when I miss it it’s 230. When I hit it solid it is more like 240-275. The fun part is I’m just 68 years young playing my best golf ever. I regularly work out with weights for years. Ran into Sav and Moo at long drive contest in Kingsport. That was a Great privilege to see them and to know you and your program on RU-vid. I have been following you and watching your techniques and practiced them for years. Thanks for exercising your gift as a teaching in golf. Your golf style has made my golf life amazingly exciting as a older man. My buddies complain all the time and saying nobody puts 30 yards on their drive at 68.😁😂🤣

Great video! The most important instructions for me happen at the 5:20 mark. The left foot needs to also move a little to maintain balance.Its such a comfortable and natural feeling.Interesting to see Hogan and Knudsen do this at address.”Do nothing in the golf swing at the expense of balance “said Knudsen.

Is a good way to think about it the Attack Angle you’re looking to deliver and the ball position you need to do so? The more up, the more the stance moves closed. The more down, the more the stance moves open.

You bet! We have a whole series on this as well as way more for power on our premium channel at wisdom in golf premium.com Check out all the “release” videos, the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and the “throwing series” just to name a few! The one in this video is called the “diagonal stance series”

I was on the range today and was just hitting 20 yard slices from my driver. I tried this diagonal stance because I thought it would let me swing IN to OUT more. It was dead straight. I alternated (to see if it was a fluke or not) between square and diagonal stance and it was always slice/straight/slice/straight. Unbelievable.

I feel like I get way more accuracy and power with an open stance/square shoulders… as I can use way more ground force specially on lead foot with parametric acceleration. I’m noticing the farthest hitter in history, Kyle Berkshire, uses open stance as well… and he’s the strongest advocate for parametric acceleration as he lifts off the ground. Open stance opens hip very early (great for faster swingers) and the lead foot open brakes the ground more effectively and lets the body open up to create even more vertical/horizontal force. I’m really intrigued by what a closed stance with square shoulders would do… but absolutely cannot do if it means losing even a little parametric acceleration off the lead knee. Any thoughts Shawn? All the best!

Shawn, Just curious as you don't like but a few swing trainers . Martin Chucks Smart ball , your thoughts on it ? Would you say it is too restrictive in the real freedom of the swing ?

How would that allow for a full freedom swing from the shoulder sockets? Would a hammer thrower in track and field use it?😝

Shawn, All your teaching is spot on great . But how about foot wear ? I am certain most out there playing do not even think it can and will hurt there body wearing most today's golf shoes and have been for years. Only two teachers I know one being you are telling it like it is about shoes and all this cushion, high arch support, hard high bottom etc etc . Why so many pros , not just a few wear cushion , high arch , and steel spikes for golf ? I think is about time to do a video on shoes for golf . One teacher has came out and said there is not one shoe company really doing golf it's justice in what is best for golf. I think it would be great to talk a bit about golf shoes if your against how they are made to not feel the ground and feet first is needed up the chain to feel the ground . Even golf shoes out there on the ground force plates show a golf manufacture shoes don't do much for the all important feet . Shoes Important ? Or Not Important ? I think that should be the title of a video .
@golflessons
@golflessons 10 месяцев назад
The important thing about shoes is the purpose; the flatter the better; many of my students practice at the range in their running shoes that are high in the heel and low in the toe and designed for walking and running forward with little change in direction. A good golf shoe like the True Shoes we have been promoting throughout the years are little to no difference between heel and toe to keep your centre of gravity supported throughout the action without feeling like you are playing with a ball below the feet lie.

Hey Shaun. Where in the premium area are the videos you mention in the video? Having difficulty finding them… Also, signed up today. Looking forward to checking out all the great content. 1. Your right foot gives a huge step back (2:45). The steps of your students are much smaller. I heard the right big toe should be in line with the end of your left shoe laces. 2. Are your shoulders still square to target or same line as your feet? 3. Does your clubhead still point at target? Thanks so much.

I am 6 foot, in my 40's, train at the gym, pretty strong and struggle to get over 230 carry lately, I have had it over 270 carry (300 total) previously but seems to only be once in a blue moon and less lately. I use a Taylormade M6 10.5 driver on high setting (so more like a 12.5), my driver is always a fade or a big pull, never a draw, I try so hard to come from the inside, drop my hands, push tot eh right with a slightly closed face and close my stance but then it turns into a hook!?
@golflessons
@golflessons 10 месяцев назад
Hey Matt! if you swing AT THE BALL, IT WILL HOOK; you want to swing THROUGH THE BALL AND INTO THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO START IT; THIS CHANGES THE FACE TO MORE OPEN. Out of the 200 top players in the world, 150 of them have a strong to a very strong grip which is the only way through the ball. See “most overlooked detail with Driver shawn clement”

Your swing with the driver is quite vertical, nothing compared to the diagonale you showed at the beginning of the video, explaining that longer shafts impose a less vertical directionnality of the club path.
@golflessons
@golflessons 9 месяцев назад
Yep! My driver is less vertical than my wedge! But probably more vertical that your driver as I have had more practice freeing up my swing over the last 46 years!

There is a difference between cupped and collapsed; just look at what happens in the downswing when the kinetic chain kicks in…it all squares up without me thinking about it! Lefty and righty, and many PGA tour players have won and been in the hall of fame with this including Mr Hogan, Kenny Perry, Paul Azinger, John Daly and many more; stop worrying about positions and start delivering your shots into your flight plans with ease and power!

You’re a great golfer but it’s depressing to hear you’re always bragging about your distance the average guy doesn’t hit it anywhere near as far as you guys I wish you worked with people who are average not many people hit it over 300 yards it would be nice if you did a coaching with somebody average to relate with. Thank you
@golflessons
@golflessons 11 месяцев назад
Hey Kim! So sorry, I don’t mean to depress you! 🙃. It is just exciting to be able to show how gathering effortless range of motion and delivering a simple task to engage the kinetic chain makes things so possible for the average golfer. The success rate we have to allow golfers to get dozens of extra yards with irons and off the tee so high and we need to keep getting excited about how good it feels and how amazing it looks when that ball is sent into that gorgeous trajectory. Everyday is an exciting day because we will have given another golfer access to this bliss!
