The Mother of all Movie Scores. Still unbeaten in almost 2023. Miklos Rozsa was an incredible genius. Wonderful recording. I have the cds and listen often.
... I saw this film in-theatre, first-release, reserved seating, in its full theatrical aspect. The opening trumpet fanfare came from the speakers at the back of the theatre, which no one had ever heard before. Then, the side speakers came in, ditto, with the behind-screen speakers then added, ditto. Within seconds, we were completely *within* the unseen orchestra, looking at each other in sheer wonder. This was a brilliant foreshadowing of Surround Sound. During the chariot race scene, the sound was "revolved" to match the POV onscreen. *Half the audience was under their seats in sheer terror.* *Beyond breathtaking.*
I saw this at its opening ceremony with my mother and brother. I can’t begin to describe how much I love this movie. On my list of favorite films its 10
Today, music can be generated digitally and be "technically" perfect. This is an example of why live orchestration is just … better. I would have loved to have been in the studio itself to hear this live.
I agree. Nothing is better than a glorious professional in whatever field, the privilege of watching magic. Music is by far the best. We all have our skills, our specialties.
Just because its digital, doesn’t mean it’s perfect. These musicians display perfection of their art. Also music has gone backwards, new music is indistinguishable from one song to the next...so mediocre.
And why before composers were better no software was available in this times so you must know to write the music. Sadly music composers of today are unable to write music this way anymore. For them it’s impossible to work without a studio an music programes, softwares, indeed the keyboard is synthetic and is called controller. Today’s music is only a pastiche. Hollywood had decayed and soundtrack music too, R.
My favorite movie! My favorite actor, Charlton Heston. My favorite movie soundtrack! My favorite composer. Thank you for sharing this video here. Love it! ❤️
Espectacular 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Enhorabuena William Wyler director.
Miklós Rózsa must've undoubtedly lived during Roman times since I find it hard to believe that this genius of composer was able to write this sensational masterpiece. It's mind-boggling! Back in 1967 my old man (gone now) took me to the cinema to see this spectacular film where the soundtrack somehow stayed in the back of my mind ever since. Magnificent.
Saw this with my church group at age15 or 16. Still brings tears to my eyes and the incredible music is etched in time as one of the great overtures ever written. Simple words do not do justice of how spectacular this film and music score truly were back then and still live on so many years later. Simply breath taking.
If the world and civilization survives a million years, this piece will rank in the top three movie soundtracks of all time, up there with Lawrence of Arabia and Exodus.
Your opinion. I beg to differ. One of the 10 greatest film scores, alongside "The Best Years of Our Lives", "Spartacus", "Vertigo", "The Big Country", "Captain from Castile", etc.
MIL GRACIAS!!! ❤
Admirable orchestra with this beautiful music that was heard in the great movie Ben Hur. Excellent. I always listen to her but I just dared to comment. Satisfying to hear it.
It's like I'm watching the movie all over again. Such an incredible score; so full of creative textures and chord progressions. Sets the stage beautifully for a wonderful movie.
Miklos Rosza left us one of his finest, and defining soundtracks that know no age. Opening trumpet notes let us know something wonderful and joyous is about to happen...and it did. Ben-Hur was wrapped around the Story of Christ.
I just can't get over how clear and crisp every note is. It's so perfect, I can hear a pianissimo of a flute over the horns...it's absolutely phenomenal. This recording is allowing me to enjoy the score in a way that I've never done before.
These talented people that can bring music to life like this are amazing. This is real music, real talent. It has taken me awhile to learn what is real music. My hat is off to all you talented people who can bring this music to life. Stuff I listened to as a kid is slowly slipping away to where I don't even care if I ever hear it again.
Good Rendition! I was in the fifth row of a theater back in '59 listening to this on surround sound speaker's and being stunned and very interested! I wasn't At All disappointed with the movie. It was Brilliant!
I am so amazed at this beautiful score. An imagining of what Roman felt like that captivates the audience (however inaccurately). Rozsa was inspired composer writing real music when others in academia were writing "the new music". My composition teacher at UCLA advised Rozsa on this score. By coincidence I live just one block from the the sound stage. What a beautiful area to live. Thank you again City of Prague orchestra for making the recording.
