Ben Hur (Charlton Heston) does his practise on his horse racing as he gets prepared for the big event. He is proud of his four white horses he'll use to race.
Every good leader should equally praise each member of his team for their strength and guide them of their weakness. As you can see he didn't just praise the fastest horse , he reminds it that HE'S part OF A TEAM and that the TEAM WINS NOT THE INDIVIDUAL! Every manager should see this!
It's to be noted the great care taken in the treatment of the horses during the filming. Yakima Cannutt, the famous stuntman in Hollywood's early days, was given the task of training to horses. Around 2,500 horses were used in the picture. The chariot race was set up under stringent conditions. It has to be as flat as possible to avoid danger. Because of the hot conditions the horses were only allowed eight turns around the track a day. Focus was always making the horses into a team. When it was time to finally film the chariot race they were ready. It took 5 weeks to create one of the most epic scenes in movie history. One final note; while there were injuries like bruises, not a single horse was injured. The care in which they took care of the horses remains a model to this day.
@@susanapitlongay792 Yep... "while there were injuries like bruises, not a single horse was injured". Plenty of bruises on the actors. They were encouraged to practice as much as they wanted to beyond the normal training. The two actors who practiced t he most were Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd. They became good enough that they did much more close filming than was originally planned. The chariot race became an attraction....big stars would stop by just to watch the filming, which took five weeks over the space of three months.
I have the DVD that has Heston's commentary on it. Contrary to popular "legend" no one was killed in the Race! He actually talks how this is a stunt man, (next cut) this is a stunt man, (next cut) this is a dummy.... (Poor guy, you could tell that while he was recording this, he was failing fast. RIP Charlton Heston!!!)
