This loop walk from the upper car park in Glen Nevis takes in the two Munros Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg via the arete. A stunning weather day with terrific view all around.
Brought back lots of memories and the realisation that last time I was there the 2 friends I was with have now passed, Great day lads watched it with a few tears 😢
Just watched you’ve help me start my day in a different mood . Beautiful scenery from a part of the world 90% of this country’s inhabitants don’t know about …thank God
Hi Neil, I agree, great way to start your day. Our mid week mornings weren't normally like this but great when you have more days through the week for decent weather. Cheers, Charlie
Hi Ally, Yes, it was one of those special Spring days. It such a tremendous area for splendid tops in all directions. Many thanks for watching. Cheers, Charlie
Hey Charlie, my son wants to do CMD on Saturday as part of his Birthday. He did Nevis last year. What’s best route up and down CMD (not arête) in your opinion? Boys are young at 5 and 8 but love there hills?
Hello, Steady going is the name of the game when the route is straight up. At bad for a couple of old farts 🤣 Many thanks for watching. Cheers, Charlie
Absolutely superb Charlie.👍 that looked a steep pull from the off. Thought Mike was losing his touch there for a moment getting on top of trig point🤣🤣 views back to the north face from the arête were outstanding.👍 Another fine production Charlie.👏👏 ATB Frank👍🏔🏴
Hi Frank, Can these fine weather day continue? Another cracker and great to be back on The Ben after six years. That's our normal route which is a good pull to get onto the ridge but avoids the many using the track. You can't fail with the footage when you have a spectacular mountain as a backdrop while doing CMD. Cheers, Charlie
Sitting on the Glasgow train watching this has improved my morning considerably! Fantastic video. I’ve not seen that route before - looks great. Thanks again for sharing. Best wishes Murdo
Hi Neil, A settled weather spell gave us the opportunity to plan and get at the higher tops. A cracking day with stunning views and a load of memories. Cheers
Hi Les, Glad you enjoyed our recent outing to Glen Nevis. Yes, we prefer this route is a bit quieter and shorter than the tourist track 👍 Cheers, Charlie
Just before you get to the summit of Carn Mor Dearg something else flies over you. Lol its was a bird. Not sure of the first one though because it was very fast.
Hi Steve, Its a route we've used a few times and it avoids the crowds on the tourist path. It also gives fantastic views across the glen. Cheers, Charlie
Hi Kev, It was a cracker... another special day with perfect conditions. I feel we have a soaking coming soon as it's going to be payback soon for these great days 🤣 Cheers, Charlie
Another great vlog charlie.. ...brought back some fantastic memories from a few years ago.....well done lads....always look forward to watching yer adventures!
Hi Annie, Glad you enjoyed tagging along our latest outing. All super weather day but I like we're stacking up a big payback of rain sooner or later 🤣 Cheers, Charlie
These are real mountains...in the 4000 foot category. Really enjoyed it..ps if you ever find a rusty old gate stoop hinge at the foot of Aonach mor I am the litter lout. It was my homemade ice axe.. abandoned it in 1983 as it was too heavy 😁
Hi Andrew, I guess your axe will be well gone by now 🤣The 4000' tops are certainly a bit different and take a wee bit more getting to the tops but great when the weather is like this. Cheers, Charlie
Great video Charlie. I really liked the footage as you went across the arete. An interesting route as well. Keeps you off the usual Ben Nevis path. Cheers. David.
Great video as always gents. Good steep climb from the car to get the blood pumping. Fantastic clarity and you caught The Ben looking majestic. I am in Glen Spean next week, fingers crossed the weather holds for me. Thank you as always for sharing the video.
Thanks Charlie, this is perfect timing. I am planning CMD as my penultimate Munro tomorrow and you’ve helped massively by showing the conditions up there. Great video as always 👍
Hi sas0875, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get similar conditions. You won't find any issues with the routes as the tops are perfect at the moment. Enjoy.... Cheers, Charlie
An interesting route, Charlie, that, despite all the time we lived in Fort William, we never did!! Am I right in saying that the route up beside the waterfall is known as the 'Waterslide' ? If it is then it was the location of a number of accidents in my day back in the 1980s. I can certainly see the attraction of this route over the walk in from the North Face park which is an interminable slog. The ascent beside the waterfall, even if it is rather steep and lengthy, is at least on grass compared to the extensive very stony and bouldery ground higher up on the Ben and the ridge. Maybe my memory is fading, but I always felt the arête was narrower that it looks on your video. I seem to remember a reasonably level section little wider than a brick wall !! Great video with lots of detail new to me.
Hi Ian, Yes, that's the Waterslide route. We've used it a few times and cuts out the pain of the track, along with the crowds. I've always thought its better with semi-ridged or ridged boots help things along. There is a couple of sections on the ridge that need care with drops either side, although, mainly to the north. It isn't a problem in these conditions but a different proposition if banked up with snow. A very enjoyable day... Cheers, Charlie
Fabulous video as usual Charlie. The scenery is fantastic! I did the CMD arete and Nevis about 20 years but from the NF car park. Not in 7 hours though 😊
Hi trapper, Its always a super walk combining the two tops particularly with the north face to look at. It's a view that wouldn't have changed much since your visit. Cheers, Charlie
Great to see The Ben and CMD done that way Charlie. I thought you had left Mike up on the trig so was relieved to see him on the next shot 😂 Views behind towards the Steal waterfall from the trig at the end of the ridge were phenomenal! Superb, a great watch, Duncan.
Hi Duncan, I thought I was going to be needed to get Mike up onto the trig but after that he's on his own 🤣 Great day and with the closness of surrounding tops there is always spectacular views in all directions. Cheers, Charlie
Hi Patricia, Looks can be deceiving 🤣🤣🤣 you've just got to keep the old legs moving otherwise we'll fall over. Many thanks for your continued viewing. Cheers, Charlie
Just fantastic ten out ten top marks one out of the bag for this walk Charlie if I could pick a days walking on the ben I would be over the moon love it keep them coming 👍 😀
Hi Philip, Glad you enjoyed our outing yesterday. We couldn't fail with a day so settled and being surrounded with Glen Nevis tops. All good stuff.... Cheers, Charlie
Hi Andy, I see you were in the area taking advantage of this super spell of weather 👍 Yes, the legs know its game on from the start and it's a route we've used a few times instead of the busy track. Cheers, Charlie
Hello, Yes, not the conventional route but good for avoiding everything the main path has to offer. It's just a joy on the tops when the weather is settled and clear like this. Cheers, Charlie
Brilliant as always guys what a day for it great to see so little snow up there time for me to head back up the arête is something else with the views of the north face a great hike on a great day it doesn’t get any better than that great viewing cheers David
Hi Tommy, Many thanks and glad you enjoyed viewing yesterdays outing. Hope we have many similar weather days to come as it sure makes a difference. Cheers, Charlie
Charlie, your video work is outstanding. BBC eat their heart out. If you visited in 1910, you could have stayed at the observatory hotel at the summit for 10 shillings, with a hearty cooked breakfast served by 2 ladies for an extra 3 shillings. In Sep 1977, I spent the night in the shelter, just to say I spent the night at the summit. Windy but not cold. In your video it is a mess, was not then.
Hi Malcolm, I remember reading about the hotel and it certainly makes you wonder how it could possibly have worked....different times, right enough. I've seen the shelter it better condition than yesterday but its a place we tend not to hang around at and prefer the quieter tops. Cheers, Charlie
@@charliemccartney7055 No need to reply Charlie, but it was also a meteorological station and frequented by scientists. Visitors were welcome. Of course in those days there was nothing like the craze in hillwalking as now. Moreover much of the land was private and not open to the public. The shelter is on top of what remains of the hotel. The track up the west of Ben Nevis is the pony track, and literally supplies were carried to the top on ponies.
Hi Charlie, Hi Mike, super video as always gents, thanks for sharing your day. There is still plenty of snow on that summit plateau. You certainly had a better day in the hills weather wise yesterday than I had on the top of Helvellyn on Monday. I couldn't see further than a 100 yards in front of me all day (video on my channel). Cheers Gents, looking forward to the next one already.
Hi, I see what you mean... you had plenty of clag on Monday. Occasionally days like that are a joy as long as they don't become the norm 🤣 Cheers, Charlie
@@charliemccartney7055 Very true Charlie. Fortunately I have done Helvellyn on a few occasions now in the good weather so it was nice to see it, or not for a change! Haha
