Myself and Dave took advantage of the good weather and hiked up to Carn Mor Dearg across the Arete and up to Ben Nevis, Fantastic day out and highly recommended. 14.8.20.
Thank you. Great footage. The Mrs and I did the CMD arrete 25 years ago before emigrating to Australia. It was our first mountain peak and it was in snow conditions. We didn't see anyone else on the arrete that day and it felt very committing. Anyhow invoked many memories and a pleasurable brief respite from our current lock down in Melbourne. I hope we get back to the Scottish Highlands again someday. Sigh!
Thanks for the comments Vinnie, that would have a lovely outing over the arête in those conditions, and yeh it would have been very committing. Hope you get to come back some day and enjoy the beautiful highlands. ATB Frank.
Great video. My mates and I did the Arête yesterday in 9.5 hours. The worst bit was the descent down that pony trek with hoards of people heading up, some playing loud music and some smoking 🤔 For anybody contemplating the Ben, this is the only way to do it. You do need a bit of a head for heights but if you take your time you’ll be fine 👍🏻 My one amateur tip would be to wear gloves. The scrambling element involves some quite sharp and edgy rocks and gloves for me were a life saver.
Hi and thanks. Yeh I found the pony track really busy as well and like yourself there was some guy with a ghetto blaster playing music you could hear for miles. The arête is a much better way and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks again ATB Frank.👍🏔🏴
Travelled up from Norfolk to the Cairngorms & visited bein Nevis (only halfway 2 kids) what an amazing & beautiful country Scotland is!....west coast next! May it stay this way for years to come!!!🏴🏴
@@SCD-BOY thanks for the comment, yeh the Cairngorms are lovely but I prefer the west coast, the summit of Ben Nevis is lovely and usually very busy. Hope you enjoy your next visit ATB Frank
That's probably some of the best footage I've watched on RU-vid of the cmd route, definitely on my bucket list having done the tourist path twice..well done guys 👌
Joan stewart thanks Joan, it was perfect conditions although sometimes a bit too warm with no breeze to help. And them pesky midges were a nightmare at the start. Still getting used to the drone.
That's the best footage of the route to Cmd Arete to Nevis i've seen. Very helpful to see what's in store for us for our first attempt to Nevis as we are choosing this as our route purely for the experience and views. Done many munros but this is on the bucket list. Fantastic photos and drone work. Thanks.
Thanks very much for your kind comments.👍 we saved this route for a good day and we weren’t dissapointed, I would highly recommend going this way as it gives you fantastic views all around, especially looking towards the North Face of the Ben. Hope you enjoy when you get around to doing it. ATB Frank.👍🏴🏔
Got the willies up the back of my legs not a few times watching you cross the Arete, but otherwise it's just magical, so beautifully filmed and edited. Thanks for posting.
Nice one Frank and big Hen Broon.Got C.M.D. pencilled in for my last one.Not keen on bumping into the crowds again on Nevis anytime soon so i thought once i compleated and along the Arete to Nevis i will be on a total high and all them people won't bother me as much, lol.🤣🤣👍
Andy O cheers Andy, nice one to pencil in as your last one. Yeh it’s a busy old place Ben Nevis. Never thought I’d have to stand in a queue to get a photo taken at the trig point on the summit. Be glad to get back on a quieter one again.😂😂
Awesome video this 👌... well done guys, I'm trying to pluck the courage up to attempt this exact route. Need hip replacement apparently according to doc so maybe I'll have a bash once that's done ✔.. This gave me a real clear understanding of terrain up there. Thanks for sharing. Superb pictures, drone footage. Best on RU-vid 👍
Done this route yesterday in the searing heat but thankfully there was no midges!! I was in long sleeves and trousers as they usually savage me so was gutted i could have worn shorts & t-shirt! Done the North car park to visitor centre in under 6hrs,what a hike!
Sounds like you had a cracking but very warm day.☀️🏔👍 the midges were just rife until we got up on the ridge then it was ok. Turned out a scorcher for us also. It’s a great route.👍 ATB Frank.
Great to meet you today - this is where I had recognised you from as watched this video previously ! Subscribed and look forward to your video from today 👍
Mate that video is unreal 👏 amazing. Footage was first class , this has been on my hit list for some time. Hopefully get it done this summer ☀️ thanks for sharing 👍 all the best. Just subscribed to you're chanel also 🏔🤝
Thanks for the comments David, it’s a cracking way to go up Ben Nevis, we saved it for a good day, hope you get the weather when you tackle it and thanks for the sub. Cheers Frank 👍🏔
Brilliant video! Some quality drone footage aswell! I was looking At doing the CMD arete for the first time next week but the weather doesn't look too great at the minute🙄
Went up via the halfway lochan and CIC hut before a straight line haul upto CMD. incredible weather and experience. Would probably try your route next time. Took us slightly longer as my wee pal has short legs.😂
Thanks for the comments Alistair, good way to go also, I’ll bet it was an incredible hike, you can’t beat the views going up that way with the North Face right on your lap. Cheers, Frank.
I done this the same day as you, not a cloud in the sky by the time I reached the summit at around 4pm - what time did you get on top? was an absolute scorcher. This video really shows the scrambles and exposure on the arete better than any other I've seen, eg the drop off at 22:05,is it the lens?
Hi James, thanks for the comments. We reached the summit at around 1.30pm and yes it was scorching that day. Clouds were clearing all the time, so you would have got better views.👍 Yeh the arête is a nice scramble, there is one or two narrow sections although the GoPro exaggerates it a little bit. ATB. Frank
Incredible footage, I'm planning on doing this in 7 weeks time. Im curious what you used to film this? Ive seen a few videos of the CMD, but this really shows whats in store... looks a bit hairy in some places
Hi Jason, thanks for the nice comment👍 it’s a beautiful arête and we saved it for a good day. The arête is quite straightforward and there’s always the path that runs along side it. I used a GoPro, chest mounted for going over the arête. Hope you get good weather when you do it in 7 weeks☀️🏔👍
Hi Terry, thanks very much for watching, it’s a great route up to Ben Nevis, it’s about a mile long and yeh in some parts it’s very narrow, there is a bypass path if you didn’t fancy the ridge itself Thanks again, ATB Frank
great video lads. I did ths route yesterday and took the drone and got some great footage from the top of CMD. The weather was phenomenal. Was that an eagle that flew past you at 13:48
Cheers Chris, yeh you would have had a cracking day up there yesterday.☀️👍🏔 we thoroughly enjoyed our day. I think it might have been a Raven Chris altho I’m not positive on that. Thanks again for watching and commenting 👍 ATB Frank
@@hikingwithfrank315 I'm 21 munros into the journey and majority of that was in 'meh' visibility (or close to zero :( ) . After a _very_ close call on Stuc a' Croin and almost becoming a sad statistic, I decided I will not do 'munrobagging' anymore - no more 'climbing for the sake of ticking off a line on a spreadsheet'. I carry a nice camera with me and I only climb if the visibility is good. Tomorrow will have THIRD attempt at the 5 munros - did Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers but then turned around as in June the windchill was -5C, 2 weeks after - zero visibility. Tomorrow's forecast seems favourable so I'll redo Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers and then proceed to An Stuc, Meall Garbh and Meall Greigh. (fingers crossed the weather will not play up on me AGAIN).
That's probably some of the best footage I've watched on RU-vid of the cmd route, definitely on my bucket list having done the tourist path twice..well done guys 👌
