@@GaryBankhead Yeah river hunters is great, just a query: I'm a metal detectorist and have been coming across some worked stone, I know you like it. Is there any key signs to look out for on the stone to perhaps show its purpose/origin?
Agreeing with Lung, I think this should be a TV show definitely, there sadly aren’t many archaeology TV shows, and there certainly aren’t any underwater ones. This needs to be a TV show, or at least get river hunters to come back, there’s plenty of rivers around me, and lots of history and worked stone
Thank you Daniel! Actually we really enjoyed it too, though I bet you could tell that. We were blown away by how good the aerial footage was - made possible by the fabulous conditions 👍🏽
Thank you Bill! I’ve climbed the Ben 20+ times, but this was my first via the CMD and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of the drone footage shows how tiny us humans are by comparison to those huge Grampian mountains.
Very good Gary well made...incase you still searching durham river,as a 14 year old lad I was in the durham River opp the new statue of the bull approx I found a waterlogged dug out canoe, after looking at it I let it sink back to the bottom of the river, iam now 65 and often wonder if its still there stuck in the mud.
Thank you! A waterlogged dug out canoe discovery wouldn't be a first for the River Wear, but it could have been an extraordinary discovery for the City of Durham. If only you had known someone who knew someone else who had an uncle or aunt that worked in the Museum of Archaeology lol. Seriously, if it had been dislodged from the riverbed, then it's highly likely that it would have been later swept downstream by anyone of the seasonal floods we have and subsequently lost to history.
Really enjoyed this Gary with you and your daughter, at one point I thought the metal detector was coming out:) Breath-taking scenery and great drone footage. Hope you make another one soon. Cheers !
Thank you and lol! I couldn't help scour the bottom of the loch for ancient things :) Hopefully, Sam and I get another chance to spend time together before the summer ends to go on some more adventures - actually, the next one may be a Cornish adventure ;)
Also, I have a quick question, I found what is potentially a Roman silver coin at the foreshore, but it is covered in some black stuff, either clay or tar. I only found out it was silver probably when I rubbed it against paper and a small shine of silver illuminated, then did it more and more shone through. But this process takes a while to get anything off, is there like a solution I can put it in? Or something I can do to get the black stuff off of it?
