In this vlog, Ben bakes bread on a boat using simple ingredients. Tambi helps a little too.
I've made bread 3 times now. Since I'm now a qualified, experienced, and dare I say EXPERT baker, I've decided to share my bread-baking skills with the world.
This is a simple, 4 ingredient recipe, that anyone can follow to produce a very tasty loaf of boatmade bread.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BEN'S BOAT BREAD RECIPE:
- 1 & 1/2 Cup Warm Water (120 - 130F)
- 1 Packet of Yeast
- 3/4 TBSP Salt
- 3 & 1/4 Cups Flour
MIX INGREDIENTS: Warm water to 120-130f. Pour water in a medium mixing bowl. Add yeast to the water and stir. Add salt to the water/yeast. Add flour to the water/yeast/salt. Mix the ingredients together well until it becomes a uniform dough.
PREP FOR BAKING: Apply oil to the inside surfaces of your baking pan. Sprinkle extra flour on the coated baking pan. Add your dough into the pan and move it around a bit to distribute it evenly in the bottom of the pan.
ALLOW DOUGH TO RISE: Cover the pan with a cloth and put the dough/pan in a non-drafty place. Allow the dough to rise for 2-3 hours. The dough should roughly double in size.
BAKE THE BREAD: Place the pan in 350F degree oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes have passed, "thump" the bread and inspect it visually. It should make a hollow "thump" sound when done, and it should also look slightly browned.
EAT THE BREAD: It might be a good idea to let it cool a bit first, but the pleasant aroma of freshly baked bread may override this step. You have some creative freedoms at this point. You can pick up the entire loaf and eat it caveman style or you can slice it up like a somewhat civilized person. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for watching!!

I found your channel by happenstance a few weeks ago and after watching your latest videos, I began binge-watching your earlier ones from the beginning (up to this one, now). I'm a retired naval architect & marine engineer (read cantankerous old fart & ancient mariner). Watching your videos always makes me smile, laugh, and feel happy! Love your family, your adventures, and everyone's good humor. Aside from rum and beer, watching your videos are great for an attitude adjustment! Looking forward to what your choice might be for your new sailboat Congratulations on your sale of "Sand Flea."

Tell Tambi,..I mean Ben, that if he adds about 1/4 cup of sugar the bread will rise more, as well as taste a little sweeter. The sugar is what the yeast consume to produce the CO2 that makes the bread rise.

OK Ben, it might be time to invest in a hanging thermometer for the oven rack. That should solve your 'what is the temp in there' question. Your product looked pretty light, but I guess that is why they call it "White Bread"! P.S. we all heard you ask Tambi how long it should bake! Very good microphone sir.
@Sailboatstory
@Sailboatstory 7 лет назад
I think a thermometer is a good idea. The "real" cook would probably appreciate that too.
@fxpthl
@fxpthl 7 лет назад
I totally understand that. When my folks were still around we would take them RVing and they were the cooks and I did the driving That RV oven was just like yours in that is was either on or off, nothing in between. I got them a thermometer that hung from the rack and at least we could turn up or down as needed. Boy Mom could bake some pretty darn good stuff while on the road. From previous postings I can see that Tambi has more going for her than just good looks! Hugs to your Molly!

Hello Ben, I love your channel keep it up as it is as entertaining as hell. I will give you some constructive criticism, when you make bread. Do not add the salt directly to the water/yeast mixture as the salt will kill the yeast in contact. The best way to do this is to add the flour first then the salt and mix. Just my two pennys. Cheers!
