Cheers Kyle - I have the upgrade clip coming - will probably do a one off video on that upgrade. So will be out pretty quickly. May be worth holding on for that video.
Hi Andy hope all is good. I've been watching this review again as I'm looking to purchase a rail square very soon. However, I was just wondering if you could clarify something please. When you are referring to the calibration points of the rail, you show the certificate indicating the accuracy between the 2 sides of the square, Is this the correct place to measure it from? Surely the measure should be taken from the lip underneath to the opposite side as this is what rests against your timber not the side. Am I missing something?
Thank you for the review, it was very helpful. Could you possibly review the Axminster MFT workbench? On this side of the pond is hard to get great reviews. I am considering ditching the massive workbench and getting a Axminister workbench, Benchdogs fence system and now the Ultra rail square.
It is definitely worth the upgrade because the original rail square with the cams was useless. I could never trust that the cams would hold. I think that is what has driven this new design. I was informed that my issue was because of bad manufacturing tolerances of the Festool rails. I have four different rails and the cams didn't work well on any of them. While not a scientific test, I don't buy their reasoning. I figured they would try to make it right but now I've got an expensive doorstop that will soon hit the dumpster.
Hi David, Rather than the dumpster, the upgrade clip may be an option. I have one coming so will try the upgrade and test the results. Watch this space. Cheers Andy
@@TheWoodgrafter For those of us across the pond it's a more expensive undertaking, especially with shipping, duty and the cost associated with outsourcing some of the work to a precision machine shop.
Fair point, I don’r think you need the precision workshop - it looks like a reasonably simple DIY upgrade. But as I am going to video the experiance - we will soon find out :-) But the shiping costs are very real.
