Working off the premise that both of these serve different roles, they are great knives. But an "upgrade" in materials may not be an upgrade at all.
The S90V with all of it's edge holding abilities has one major trade off. The ability to sharpen/re-sharpen it. It is a very hard steel that comes with a price. This is true of the Carbon Fiber scales as well. CF is strong and light but is it as durable as Aluminum? I'm not too sure since I make a point to try and not drop my knives. The question I have here is about the longevity of the Carbon Fiber. Lastly, in terms of quality. I found that my 940 was overall built better with greater attention to detail than my 940-1. For a knife at this price point they should have kept a better eye on the production line and put out more consistent and better made product. Regardless of the "Blue Class" status, it could have had a closer watch.
Even with those criticisms I still have and love both knives. Before you decide which you are to purchase (which will probably be both) ask yourself the intended EDC role. You will not be dissatisfied with either purchase.
Benhcmade Knife Co.: If you ever watch this, a full titanium version without steel liners would be amazing. Keep those lines simple, clean, and free of screws. Plus some M390 would be great too.
