I bought it...I’ve had it almost a week and this is by far the nicest knife I own. I like my 940-1 but this knife is easily worth the extra $150. And I guess I got lucky with the QC issues!!!
Have this and the 840, 781 blows the 949 away...so sweet. I got mine for $300 cash, my wife bought a gun so they gave me a deal... Only issue I had is the pocket clip being “tally” as you mentioned. Everything else about it is amazing.
Meant “tappy” I have to add, this knife is in my pocket 5-6 days out of the week, it is so sweet, so much fun to flip and the blade is wicked sharp....
I buy a lot of my knives based on your reviews and I really respect the fact that you guys aren't high dollar knife loose morals folks. I've been super pleased with every knife you guys have recommended. Keep up the good work!!
The tapping clip just doesn’t matter as there is usually a layer of cloth between the clip and the scale. When there isn’t your hand compresses the clip. You’re manufacturing a problem that isn’t really there. Love you two anyhow!
I just bought one of these a couple of months ago. I think they have the QC more under control. Mine came to me perfect. I’ve gotten quite a few Benchmade blades lately and don’t have too much of a problem with any of them. Good review guys. I don’t edc this ... but I like it a lot. But I’m biased ... I bought it. Lol.
I love love love my Anthem only had it for a month but it's the best production knife I've ever handled... so far the last 3 vids have been on knives I've recently purchased or have on the way.
Ive been lusting after the anthem since it came out and in dying to buy one, but with all the mixed reviews I need to get one in hand first. I'm still holding out hope that someone will have one that they'll let me borrow for review so I can make up my mind. Awesome video as always! So freaking glad you guys are back making regular videos.
Got one coming now that they’ve discontinued it but got an aftermarket clip coming too. The stock clip on this thing is an abomination. Also, thank you Benchmade for the weird clip hole configuration. Baffles the mind.
Love that knive , just over priced by $150.00.. Those super steel like M390, CPM20CV , aren't as hard to sharpen as people think. I've sharpened and reprofiled both of those steels on a Edge Pro Apex clone , and if I had a blind fold on I would have thought they were either D2 or S30v . Ive never really had a problem sharpening any steel , I think it's the machine, best $19.00 I ever spent . I'm not a pro by any means, I just take my time , no rush , use a 120 grit stone (for reprofiling ) and just do it . It was a little scary the first time, because you hear all the horror stories, but after that I was good . Don't Fear the Steel . Its funny , because I actually got a few really good deals on knives because people either couldn't or too afraid to try to sharpenen some of these steels . Recently I bought a slightly use Benchmade Griptilian 551-1 with the gray g10 and the CPM20CV for $120.00 and it wasn't really that bad , I touched it up on my Spyderco Sharp Maker and now it's hair popping sharp. So I guess being afraid is a good thing , for me anyways, So , Keep'em Comin , I'll take'em .
I really like my Anthem and for me it's worth the money. My bevel is jacked but it still cuts great. The way this knife locks up solid with no play and opens and closes so smoothly is impressive for an axis lock. The integral handle is nice and overall it's been a solid work knife. This is a flagship knife for Benchmade and I like that aspect of the knife as well. It is my first Benchmade. In my opinion the Benchmade to get for less then half the cost would be the Griptilian 551-1. You still get the 20cv steel and a good g10 handle. Thanks for the video it was good.
Thumbs up for 20 min. I'm still a Benchmade fan, but you're both right on their quality control. I like the knife, but not enough for the price. I'm perfectly happy with my Grips, 940s, Contego, and my wife's 530
BirdShot IV yeah, that's the only plus. In my opinion though, everyone knows what a clip on your pocket is. To each their own. I think companies should do both with every knife. It wouldn't be that hard for them and everybody would be happy. Keep up the great vids you two! 👍🏼
To me the distinguishing feature - is that it's an integral, with some inherent advantages. However, with BM's QC issues and that high price - I passed on this knife. I did add an integral to my collection this year, a Lion Steel SR11 in Red w/dlc blade. Paid about $200 and am happy with it.
My Medford Marauder has 0 tapability on the clip. I have an Anthem on the way and I hope it's not too annoyingly tappy but with the clip being a bit off the frame I'm not optimistic.
Wow if I pay honestly over $100ishfor a knife I automatically expect it to have a decent edge atleast and 300 to 500 or above it better come with a damn near perfect edge maybe not polished but honestly it should be polished edge as well for 300 or more. Great video im glad you two are honest its what the wife and I love about your videos and you guys are great together with all your content haha ❤ ❤
I have a 940 and it has sold me on benchmade I have seen these in a couple shops and man did I fall in love with them! Even if I had to send it off to get the grind right I really want one. But at that price I may or may not ever get one? And I like to use my knives so???
BirdShot IV we will see? It's expensive and I doubt I have the skills or equipment to sharpen it properly? And in the long run will it do anything my 940 won't? I'm a user not a collector. But man its is a nice knife!
Hottie overload. 😂 Nice video! That one isn’t the one that Mike did a video on. The factory edge on this one wasn’t nearly as bad, it did take a little fixing though. He sharpened this one for me when I visited him. I tried to get him to do it as a joke because he was talking so much crap about it and then he did it for me. His edges are definitely top notch.
IMO, it's a cool design. And I'm glad Benchmade took the jump and made this one. But from watching other videos and seeing other peoples reactions. It just doesn't spark the interest like some other knives in the industry.
Benchmade does seem to have a problem where higher carbide steals like the s90 and 20cv. Think the ppl do allot of s30 then they try to do s90 realize it's taking longer hold one spot on the belt too long and then you get your wave
I turned the clip to face outwards and screwed in 2 screws then bent the clip now it's Perfect and has no gap or clicking. So if anybody was wondering if it's possible it is.
I know where I can handle one of these knives and now that I've seen a review about it it'll open my eyes to some things to look for..way out of my price range .However great review interesting knife.
I'm such a benchmade fan boy and love everything benchmade... with that said I wouldn't ever buy this... you are correct in saying that is mid tech territory.... having handle midtech there is just no way I could see a factory knife compete... But that's just my opinion
Good review, but I think I’ll stick with my 940. The 940 was a stretch for me and I love the knife. The Anthem and its price are not that appealing so will have to pass on that one. Thanks for the video.
I have one I really don’t mind it kind a wish it wasn’t $425 and I really wish it was not on bearings I think it would be so much better on bronze washers actually got 99 out of 1000 my grind is about 90% good slightly larger grind on the belly not too bad other than that I really think bearings on knives are only good flippers only my opinion although it really was an impulse buy now looking back could’ve probably got knives I like better for the price on that note great video
Mark Grant it is 100% worth keeping. Ever since I got it it’s kicked the CRK out of my pocket almost completely lol. This is one of my “NEVER sell” knives
I don't think there are many sporting stores around here anymore. There was a Gander Mountain but that had recently closed down. I live in one of those areas where there are mostly small towns/citys. I'll look around and see what I can find.
How DARE you insult Betty Crocker! All right, fine. You're entitled to your opinion. But as a frequent baker, Betty is my go-to and she's always served me well.
BS4- Much to like about this knife. However, the silver screws showing through the top and the clip holes ruining the looks are problematic. Aren't wrinkles on a dick clip redundant?
In my opinion overpriced and I haven't had great luck with Benchmades. But I bet it's a nice knife in its own right. For me it's mostly that damn butterfly tax that gets me down. If Benchmade would up their QC and drop their prices things would be very different.
Lucky you, cold and wet here. Thanks for the heads up on the kershaw injection, I may or may not be getting one from blade hq 😉. Not at my local walmart , wahwahwah..... Lovely benvhmade.
A knife having a "tappy clip" has to be one of the most inconsequential "flaws" I've ever heard of. Not only is it something that has absolutely no negative effect on the performance or user experience of the knife but it's actually probably a good thing. I personally hate when clips are so tense against the frame that it becomes a pain to insert and remove from the pocket. I don't own this knife because I just don't think it looks all that great, especially for the price but if I did own the knife, the "tappy clip" certainly wouldn't bother me at all. The actual look of this clip, however, does bother me. It's not that it looks like a penis or a snake, it just looks bad to me. The chevron milling pattern looks bad and the shape makes no sense to me.
juste find benchmade too expensive for what you get i'm the kind of guy that need to have the bang for is buck otherwise they look great and all but can't bring myself to buy one
It's a nice knife but obviously overpriced.. I'm done with Benchmade.. Very little talk about it but there's a problem with G10 on some 940-2/940-1702 (REI) and probably others like the 943.. The pattern is missing all around axis lock area on show side.. It's smooth..I've seen the G10 look blotchy too..I had a 940-2 with the missing pattern and I've seen 3 others in stores... BM's QC still isn't right.. I'm going to send them an email and tell them about co's. like Kizer, Real Steel, Reate etc.. I don't think they know they have competition...
Thomas Landers wait, theres supposed to be a pattern in the G10 on the -2? I have one and one of my cons is that theres no texture to the G10, my whole knife is super glassy smooth.
I don't find butts ugly at all. Let me clarify. I don't find _some_ butts ugly. Some butts are ugly, I'll give you that. A lot of butts are kind of nice. I guess it depends on who they're attached to. Was this conversation going somewhere? Probably not, no. Ok, this butt is knife ugly. Er... Fuck, I need some sleep.
