We're always looking to update our emergency preparation supply and this kit from COSTCO really caught our eyes. Readywise 150 Serving Emergency Food Bucket for about $64 seemed like a decent deal. Does your COSTCO have these same buckets?

Humanitarian daily rations on Amazon break down to $3 a day for an mre style ration. Impulse bought a box last night to see what they're like.

Mountain House supposedly tastes the best of all the emergency meals. They usually have 2 servings per bag. Your Mountain House can seems to have the older meals. In my cans they just say good until. Most have a thirty year expiration. Also, Mountain House has more sodium than most emergency meals.

Don't have an emergency meal kit. Might be a good idea to get a couple. We live in the mountains east of San Diego and go shopping for food every other week. If we had to we could go a month on what we have in the cupboard. Good video. Thanks

You'll find that many of the Ready Wise products are dehydrated rather than freeze dried, which is a much more expensive process. Freeze drying lets Mountain House use ACTUAL meat in its meals and not just meat FLAVORINGS. Mountain house is an actual complete recipe combined and cooked, then they take all the water out with freeze drying. Freeze drying is why MH meals are so much lighter. RW uses lots of dried grains and cereals. Try the brands side by side and start with the RW. Then do the MH. Anyone that has done so already will tell you that there is no comparison. MH isn't even always the best of the various freeze dried meals, some others are better, but they all beat the hell out of Ready Wise. If you count your servings you'll also see that they figure all those glasses of powdered milk and Tang in the count. A large number of servings are in the form of tiny bowls of instant oat meal. I'm not sure that you could even divide up the "entrees" over 2 or 3 meals, uncooked, because, if I remember correctly, each of the ingredients are added to the box one at a time and aren't blended. I know that they were never cooked together before they were packaged. Think of Stove Top stuffing and trying to figure out how much of the season pack to use today to get half of it right today and have enough leftand in the correct blend to make the other half 2 days from now. Or Uncle Ben's rice or Rice-A-Roni or Knorr soups. Those are the type meals you'll be dealing with, with the seasoning settled down in the bottom of the package.

I have 3 buckets of Mountain House. One thing I’ve learned is buy one and taste. You don’t want 25 kits and find out you hate the taste.

The only thing about the Mountain House and other freeze dried meals is that they are high in sodium. The ReadyWise and similar are just dried raw foods . I have a mix of both plus MRE's in our preps. And after seeing what's been going on over in Western North Carolina and East Tennessee this week after the hurricane I'm definitely going to be examining my preps with a more critical eye.

132 meals and not a roll of toilet paper? What kind of emergency bucket is that?
@mrhalfstep
@mrhalfstep День назад
Mountain House used to say they were good for 25 years from the package date, then 30 years later they had some samples of those original meals tested and they were still good . At that point they felt sure enough of the technology and their methods that they changed it to 30 years. Then they sampled 35 year old meals from their original operations and found them to be good and safe to eat, so now those original ones and any that they make today are rated for 35 years although the older ones that you may have will still say 25 or 30 on their packages. They may even be on the verge of declaring them safe for 40 years. I think I saw that somewhere. Long story short, you don't have to be in any hurry to use those meals. Ready Wise and all the other players in the prep food storage market just haven't been around long enough to do the longterm tests that MH has. Theirs will probably prove to last longer also, but they'll no doubt want to test them first,

I've heard, repeat heard that Augason Farms are some of the best long term food storage as far as taste goes and the calorie/servings aren't BS like a lot of these are.

Seems like a good buy if you have a family, but not so smart if you live alone, as the servings are not individual.

Definitely taste test/compare! We have a few of each of these. They’re pretty good and kids will eat it. In an emergency, they’ll keep you alive as long as they’re not just salt. Now I’m making pancakes!

I always found survival kits and first-aid already made wounderest ? Like ok always always be and stay paperd ! But how much does the content actually work ? I used to carry one of those pocket first-aids they give out and would always think it would be nice if these kit's came with disinfected wipes or wound wipes. And for the survival food, hay go for it, but one think you're going to need lots of water for food and other use. I want to buy some of the food and try it. I actually made my own med kit with useful items and items no one thinks of. Yeah, that's first aid also. Oh, by the way, do they include your heating tools ?
