These are both spectacular edc knives from a great company, Benchmade. They are pretty much identical except for handle material, with the aluminum & full steel liners of the 707 sequel costing nearly double the FRN with nested liners of the 556. Overall, if cost matters, the Mini Grip is the better deal. If you want to pay ALOT more (double), the Sequel is definitely a bit classier. Benchmade is such a great company with the axis lock on nearly every design.

I have the sequel, and a full size grip- and love them both. Use them for different tasks though. I thought about getting a mini grip sometime in the future as well. Love my benchmades!

+Survival Minds In my opinion, Mini Grip is a much better knife than Full sized. I made the mistake of buying an orange handle version of full sized before I realized bright handle colours draw unwanted attention in city carry. Sold the Full Sized, but the Mini is in my pocket today actually! Cheers

Remember when people, yourself included, would compare the Delica and the mini Grip against eachother...now you could get a Delica, a Dragonfly and lunch for the price of the mini Grip. I see BM is comeing out with g10 Grips now, I wonder what they will cost. I like the mini Grip , but like you that doesn't transfer over to the full sized model. Another fine comparison in this category is the HK 14210, I believe they are discontinued now, I have one and its like an improved mini Grip with the best axis action of any of my BMs, sweet little Snody collaboration.Cheers

+RealBushMonkey You're right. I personally love the axis lock, and pretty much the only way to get it is with Benchmade unless you count bolt action/ball bearing lock as being similar. Delicas are like $90 now at Warriors and Wonders which I personally think is insane considering I bought my first one for maybe $60-65 3 years ago.

damn american dollar! I still love the Delica though, recently got that orange sprint, but there are much better bangs for the buck nowadays for sure. For the current cost there should have been a steel or design upgrade

ever hear of GANZO knives? They also do the axis locj in knives under $40 CDN. Mite be worth a try for kicks. They have a modle on Amazon that looks like a Lion Steel SR1 clone in 440c, just letting you know

Spyderco has indeed raised their prices. In my opinion, thats really stupid. If you look at how populair their more affordable folders are (like the tenacious series/Delica/endura/gragonfly etc...). those are the reason they are very populair. if you buy a cheaper knife, there is a very good chance that the customer buys a more expensive one next time. like me ;) . The new 2015/16 knives are all very expensive compared to before. I ofcourse understand that they are getting more expensive because of the popularity, design and materials. but in my opinion they should add some more budget versions...

+sjoerd stok Cold Steel is doing it too, but it's completely justified considering they're upgrading the steels substantially from Aus8 to CTS XHP (BD1 in cheaper folders). Still, we're talking about $100-125 knives at worst which is the same level other companies have been at for years. I saw the Spydie catalogue for 2016 and it's all sprint run versions of the same knives with upgraded steels (S110v PM2, Millie, etc), which will probably be double the price. Plus titanium framelocks at $300+ etc. Not alot that got me excited to buy. Even their Manix Transluscent S110V (would love to have this) is $145 where I live. Not doing it for those prices. Thanks for watching!

where do you get used knives?

benchmade pays royalties to spyderco to use the spyder hole so its all legal.

+SLANIMIRC Interesting. I don't know all the legalities, but I would assume this was a court enforced decision. I don't know why Spyderco would willingly allow the 'pillar' of it's brand/image etc be used by an industry rival. I've noticed some Victorinox knives (one handed trekker etc) also have them. Then you look at SOGzilla. Anyways, just because it's legal doesn't make it fair. Never forget who invented it, and the pocket clip by the way. :)

+StartUpSurvival Back You can google "Terzoula Benchmade Spyderco" for more info but as the story goes, when Spyderco first started selling knives, they didn't have a USA shop to do their own fabrication. When Spyderco collaborated with Bob Terzoula to make the Spyderco C15, Bob insisted that the knife be made in the USA. So Benchmade (who only made balisongs at that time) actually started making the knives for Spyderco. That's kinda where both companies crossed paths and also the first longerlock knives made/sold by either company. I'm guessing Spyderco let Benchmade use the hole as a return on a favor. I could be wrong though.
