I'm always doing something on the homestead or shop over at / swiltzius
Inspired by the Oneida model I made my own for around $200. A simple box fan and filter taped to one side it pretty good, but I'm finding this benchtop dust collector is providing super even airflow, pulls air very well through the filters, has variable speed, and I really like having the blue pre-filter. In short, it's exceptional for bench top sanding, routing, and power carving!
Specs:
41.3 dB noise level (on max)
39.6 watts (6.6w per fan)
enclosure 8” x 25.75” x 18.5”
951 CFM free airflow (158.5 per fan/no filters)
6x fans 140mm x140mm x25mm
800 - 3000RPM fans
60 watt 12V power supply
16” x 25” MERV 15 air filter
up to 94% efficient at removing 0.3-1 micron particles
16” x 25” x 1” MERV 6 polyester pre-filter
26 lbs total weight with filters
On paper, I am close to 15% higher CFM than the Oneida (830 vs 950 free-fan rating). 535 actual rating Oneida so I'm around 600-625? Sound depends on airspeed and it can go very quiet on 1/2 or 1/4 of max power.

A couple questions if you don't mind? Is that a 60 Watt 12 Volt 5 Amp power supply? Is the wiring basically joining all the black wires into one and joining all the red wires into one and then putting the red and black in the fan speed controller called "RioRand PWM DC Motor Speed Controller Switch Control 7-70V 30A Fuse" on Amazon?

You got it. Power supply feeds the motor speed controller. Some splitter power cables then connect to the six fans (parallel wiring).

Beautifully made. I plan to make one and wondered, now that you have been using it for a while, if you'd do anything different if you made one again and also if you have had to make any changes. Thanks.

The only thing I may yet do is add handles to the sides. Otherwise, it has functioned wonderfully and left me wanting for nothing.

May I ask what fans and filter you used and where you got them?

Why computer type fans?

That’s the fan type Oneida used and that is what I based my shop made version off of. It appears to give a more even air flow across the entire filter area than a single large fan or cage fan.
